"Nothing will be gained, and nothing will be learned. I don’t care if Patrick Williams scores 40."
I will utter these words in a slow droning voice as instructed by the Cult of BaB.
Additionally it seems a good time to skip a few Bulls games. Or maybe these games will be a chance to see some rookies in action and see what Dalen can do. Wait no.. Nothing will be gained, and nothing will be learned!
There's an old saying down in Texas, I believe it's in Chicago too. Fool me once Patrick Williams, shame on you. Fool me twice... We won't get fooled again.
Lol exactly what I was thinking. I wanna believe in pat, but come next season he will be timid again and... I'm tired of cycles with the bulls. Management, point guards, and draft picks we hope will be stars.... Since 2011 it's been like watching reruns
We may learn that starting the second string guys will achieve about the same results as putting our three "All Stars" out there. Which is kinda a bummer.
called this 'insane' in the post, but indeed the Bulls are going to play Caruso, someone who is legit hurting and has a high likelihood of hurting himself under any minutes https://twitter.com/KCJHoop/status/1644478066817744898
When the season started, the majority were pretty much set on keeping Ayo over Coby, but Coby's clear improvements and strong finish to the season have really changed that narrative. I was just hoping he'd make a bunch of 3s and not die on screens, but he's improved way more than that. He's been pretty fun to watch. Also Pat continues to tease his potential. Just tighten those handles and he'll be fine.
As others have said, Pat needs to work with the guy that Coby worked with this past summer. If he can clean those handles up, it will instantly make him better.
We should set him free so that he can go where he has always belonged. Making near minimum money as Tom Thibodeau's 10th man when, one day, he is the next man up, and he averages 30 while defending like a member of Thib's cult of weirdos.
I know this is unpopular, but should we at least be evaluating Coby for the potential starting PG spot next season?
I know he failed hard at it when he was put in that position his rookie year, and he looked bad at it every subsequent time he had to fill in there over the following couple of years.
But this year's Coby is a totally different player. He's not just a shooter now. Actually his shooting was probably the most inconsistent thing about him. I'm not saying he's now Chris Paul or anything, but he at least knows how to break down a defense and find the open man.
The other problem is his free agency. I know he's restricted so the Bulls could just match whatever he goes out and gets, but the Bulls are pretty hamstrung right now. If they re-sign Vooch and extend DeMar (both dumb moves but would totally fit with what AK has done so far), it's possible they won't be able to match what some teams offer.
Coby has made it clear he wants to start and I can't blame him. He's worked hard and probably had the smallest role of his career this season. He's always been a good teammate and hasn't shown unhappiness with being here, but I can't imagine he'd choose a smaller offer from Chicago because he loves the team.
If only we had been smart and traded away some of our assets at the deadline and given our younger players more responsibility so we could see what they were worth heading into the off-season...
Would Coby be installed next season as starting point guard on any other NBA team? No. That the might consider it is a nutshell exactly the problem with these Bulls.
That's a hard judgment to make with how limited Coby's role has been this year. But with how he has performed when given the opportunity, I think some teams would make him their starting point guard. Obviously not contending teams, but we're not a contending team either.
There's literally no obvious options for other PGs.
Like... I'll be honest and say I don't think Coby White and D'Angelo Russell are significantly different players. Russell just has the pedigree, got lucky on a contract, and got garbage time minutes to inflate his stats and "develop" on some awful teams. On a per minute basis, they're basically the same guy.
Is Russell himself good? Eh... he's pretty middle of the road. So is Coby. But if I can get a middle of the road guy for $12.5M like I probably can with Coby, it's a victory. Because the drop off is really steep. And falling for the name with DLo means you pay like $25M for a middle of the road guy. That's even worse.
I don't know how unpopular it is. I'm simply encouraged that we drafted someone, and he seemingly got better while wearing a Bulls uniform. That's not a profound point, or shrewd analysis. But, it's fun when your guys don't have to find other teams to flourish on.
A quick google search says that he is a retired professional wrestler who performed in the WWF under the persona "The Red Rooster." Quite impressive that he was able to make an NBA roster at age 67.
That's my problem. I stated it the other day. AKME isn't going the draft and develop route. So why are they playing developing players in key roles? Makes no sense. They are like strange-o version of the Warriors building on two timelines even though they've never won on either.
after the game...this sounds like organization didn't push anything. Were they just lazy (AK sure leaves a lot to the head coach) or do they not understand probabilities?

Haha, the good old Dubya Bush quote still lives on 😂

Doncic is indeed playing: https://twitter.com/espn_macmahon/status/1644444477459943425

Seriously idiotic decision.
Patrick scoring 40 would be fun
Javonte Green is playing too? Wtf?
Triple double watch for Coby White?
I like Dalen. He's awkward but it kind of makes him hard to defend. He looks like a giraffe attempting a layup
why not rest vuc? why is caruso playing if he has a bad foot?
He’s a 40% bigger Marquis Teague

Why does this seem so accurate? 😂

Can you imagine paying for a ticket to Sunday's game? Shoutout to all of the season ticket holders who paid full price to watch a G League game.
Who the hell is Terry Taylor

The mavs are now being investigated for their tank move in this game, lol.
Sunday update:
Billy Donovan says everyone is playing, though it may just be one stint of action
Donovan's approach to this meaningless game is poor. But he's a coach, he's gonna do the coach-y thing.
I'm more curious if AK left it 100% BD's decision.
