Looking around the league

  • It's early, but it looks like the Hawks might need another great run in the second half of the season if they want to be serious contenders. The East is competitive and I don't see how they can fall behind much further if they want to avoid the play-in. I had a thought during the offseason that it might be good for the rest of the East that Atlanta was essentially going all-in on this current team, because there's a chance that they peaked last year. Again...it's really early and they have been playing a tough schedule, but they're just not looking great right now.
  • Are the Wizards for real? I think the answer to that question is....yes (somewhat). I have a hard time believing they'll be a top 3 seed, but I could see them being in the 4-8 range. Their offseason wasn't anything super splashy, but it was solid and looks like it's resulting in a well-built team.
  • What the hell is going on in Cleveland? I thought they would have a great shot at another top 5 draft pick. Yet, here they are at 7-5. Lauri hasn't been good, but Mobley and Allen have been really impressive. I'd be shocked if they were a legit playoff team....but a feisty 9 or 10 seed? That's possible. Crazier things have happened.
  • One win for the Pelicans??? One win?? Boy, I bet that fanbase is still glad they traded Lonzo. He clearly was holding them back from greatness. ESPN recently ran a segment where they asked if Griffin should be fired. Let this be a lesson to all teams: Don't hire front office guys that were basically just kinda there when LeBron was stacking up wins for them.
  • Is it just me, or does it seem like COVID is already effecting this season more than last? Kyrie's nonsense, Embiid's out, Middleton's out, Vuc is now out. I have a fear that we're building to a point where a playoff series could be determined by a player having COVID. Obviously it's just a sign of the times we live in, but it's a bummer nonetheless.
