The Bulls, after hiring Denver Nuggets GM, Arturas Karnisovas to be their new President of Basketball Operations are moving forward with Karnisovas filling out his staff.

And Friday afternoon news broke that the Bulls are hiring J.J. Polk from the New Orleans Pelicans to be their assistant manager. Or at least one of them.

Polk worked seven years with New Orleans and was most recently their Executive Director of Basketball Administration. Polk was initially hired there as “Director of Player Contracts”.

This will be a homecoming of sorts for Polk as he earned his law degree from the University of Illinois back in 2004.

As tweeted by Johnson, the Bulls plan to expand their front office and that is good news within itself. The more people in the room to help collaborate on decisions the better. Prior to this, the Bulls had one assistant GM (Steve Weinman) who’d direct salary cap things and analytics.

The Bulls still have a long way to go when it comes to making wholesale changes to their front office structure. We currently don’t know what the futures of John Paxson and Gar Forman will be like although the former seems destined to be moved into an advisory role. Chicago hasn’t even made a GM hire yet either. But bringing in Polk looks to be a smart move and we can surely expect a lot more additions in the near future.
