Bulls to sign Jarrell Eddie to 10-day contract

wing help from the G-League

NBA: Preseason-Chicago Bulls at New Orleans Pelicans Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Bulls are reportedly adding someone (temporarily) to their roster, ‘calling up’ wing Jarrell Eddie from their G-League affiliate to a 10-day contract.

Eddie has been mostly plying his trade in Hoffman Estates this season, and was on the Bulls roster during the preseason, though he did have a 10-day contract with the Celtics earlier this season.

Unclear as to the benefit in signing him to the ‘big-league’ (debatable these days) roster as opposed to just keeping him learning that Bulls Culture in the minors, though maybe Eddie was receiving interest elsewhere. Perhaps they saw a short-term need for any wing at practice, given that Paul Zipser remains out with injury and the Bulls are mothbolling Justin Holiday. Eddie is two and a half years younger than Holiday...but that still puts him firmly in the not-a-prospect age of 26. He’s played in barely over 200 minutes across 3 NBA seasons.

As for this G-League season, Eddie is performing well: nearly 17 points per game over 19 games this season, shooting nearly 47% from three after being near 50% from distance for the Windy City Bulls last year.

I will say that it was extremely weird that the Bulls were bellowing over their developmental bonifides while keeping an open roster spot (granted, this is a team that we know doesn’t like to ‘clog up the roster’ with 2nd round draftees)...and now they’re at least using the spot! Don’t really get the use of it on Jarell Eddie, but it’s less weird than not using it at all.
