Bulls vs. Hawks game preview, injury report, lineups and open thread

first back-to-back of the season, first road win?

It’s the Bulls first back-to-back of the season, as they hop over to Atlanta to face the Hawks a night after what was a defensive debacle in Charlotte. A silver lining of that one was that it was so bad after three quarters that many including Zach LaVine did not have to play in the final period.

There wasn’t a shootaround this morning so no word of any changes to the lineup, which featured Chandler Hutchison’s first start coming at the power forward position. The Promise did have 7 rebounds in his 28 minutes but the team was overall pounded on the boards all night, something to see if it repeats again. I doubt Jabari Parker would add much in that department even if he was inserted in the lineup, and I don’t think the Bulls are going to go with two-big formations with Carter at PF either.

The Hawks are one of the ‘contenders’ for the bottom of the Eastern Conference along with the Bulls, going all-in on Trae Young and spending the past few years selling off whatever they could from the team that once was the #1 seed and won 60 games. They do still have Kent Bazemore from that squad, and he had a career-high 32 points in a come-from-behind win over the Mavericks in their last game.

Young is obviously the focal point as the team’s lead shooter and ballhandler. Fellow prospect John Collins hasn’t played yet this season with an ankle injury, and the Hawks will also be without Justin Anderson and Alex Poythress in this one. The Bulls of course are still missing Markkanen, Dunn, Portis, and Valentine.

It’ll be tough to be on the back-to-back and still on the road, but this matchup is one of the more winnable ones in the schedule, one that’s especially brutal coming up. Yes I know we shouldn’t worry about results like ‘victories’, but it may be difficult for Hoiberg to keep this team engaged if they can’t get a win here and there.
