Bobby Portis now ALSO has a sprained MCL

Bulls can’t catch a break, but they can catch some sprains!

NBA: Charlotte Hornets at Chicago Bulls Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Bobby Portis exited last night’s game after getting his knee ran into, and the scan results were not great:

There’s a wide variance in these sprains, but for reference Kris Dunn just suffered one and he was ruled out for 4-6 weeks.

You can see the play where it happened here, in a video I pointed my phone at the TV to make as an illustration of some LOL Jabari Parker defense.

No LOLz anymore. As while the Bulls came into camp with a logjammed frontcourt, now losing Portis on top of Lauri Markkanen means it’s Parker who is now the starting and full-time power forward. Maybe Wendell Carter Jr. slides to that spot in 2-big lineups alongside Cristiano Felicio or Robin Lopez.

It’s also bad timing for Portis himself, as he is gunning for a new contract and awards. He had a fantastic preseason and opening night but had struggled with his shooting in the 3 games since. I’ve heard and read talk that he’s also some kind of emotional leader for this team too, but he can flex and scowl just as easily on the bench, you figure?

This sucks for him, for the team, and also for us in now GarPax has even more excuses for when this team blows the next twenty games or so. Not to mention the chore in watching those games!
