I’m weirdly extra-interested in tonight’s 4th preseason contest. The Bulls have to at least look a little better than what they’ve shown so far, right? They will be home for the first time in a week, and there’s always those exalted Hoiberg practices (by Hoiberg himself). Just not allowing 60 points in the first half would be a good sign.
There’s even a potential starting lineup change?
The lineup changes being strongly considered for at least tonight’s preseason game vs. Pacers are Wendell Carter Jr. for Robin Lopez and Bobby Portis for Jabari Parker, per source. Unknown is whether Parker would slide to SF and remain in lineup over Justin Holiday. At morning shootaround, Hoiberg said he’d update reporters during his pregame session.
Robin Lopez has been truly awful so far, so mothballing him is a fine experiment. I don’t see the point in shoehorning Parker back over to SF, when that doesn’t address the defense and likely makes things worse. Plus it will potentially ruin Portis’s pursuit of the 6th man award, perhaps the most unintentionally funny award push in the league this year.
As for the Pacers, they have Thaddeus Young making his preseason debut coming back from injury. 2nd-year player TJ Leaf is questionable, and reserve guard Corey Joseph is out.
Tonight’s game will be on ESPN2, one of the few times you can listen to a non-local telecast all season. Maybe they’ll splice in their Jimmy Butler interview if things get out of hand in Chicago.
Gametime is at 7, but tip will probably be a good 10 minutes after.
