We’re in Day 2 of the SBNation Mock Draft. No trades this year (it got too crazy to maintain), but you can follow along with the selections at our draft/DLeague site Ridiculous Upside.
BlogABull had a special advantage in having Ricky on the staff, as he’s our NCAA editor and doing full mock drafts for the mothership. For this Bulls selection he went with DJ Wilson, a 6’10” Forward who just finished his sophomore year at Michigan.
You can read Ricky’s explanation here at Ridiculous Upside, it’s a pick that’s very anti-Bulls, going on young potential versus proven production. I asked Ricky about other players he was thinking of at #16:
I also considered Justin Jackson, Terrance Ferguson and Harry Giles.
To me, it's easy to view Jackson as a safer pick than Wilson, but I didn't think he had Wilson's upside. Giles was simply too big of an injury risk and he didn't show much of anything at Duke.
T-Ferg looks good on paper as a big shooting guard who is a phenomenal athlete and can stroke threes, but there's just something missing there. Maybe it's feel for the game. Ferguson reminds me a bit of Ben McLemore and Terrence Ross, guys I used to like a lot but never panned out even with great tools.
For even more draft and Bulls analysis from Ricky, he was a guest on CLTV’s Sports Feed this week. You can check video of both of his segments here.
