Cameron Payne sent to the D-League

rehabbing a foot injury (and being bad)

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Orlando Magic Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

BREAKING: The Bulls have assigned guard Cameron Payne to the D-League.

Hey, we suggested this should happen! Does that make us happy? Of course not, it’d be a preferred result that Payne showed something (besides a propensity to shoot a ton) in his initial tryout with the Bulls.

Payne was inactive the past few games with an injury to the same foot he’s broken twice before. And with Rondo commencing his contract push and Hoiberg playing him and MCW for some reason, there’s no spot for Payne, so this makes sense.

The trade to acquire Payne will probably never make sense, even if you concede that Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott, and a 2nd round pick shouldn’t get you much (what?). Of course, perhaps the GarPax Analog Scouting Service sees something in Payne that will manifest itself over the next year. Or they just grabbed him because some Tim Floyd flunky told them ‘he’s a gamer’.

Speaking of, the Bulls D-League affiliate made another recent acquisition in 32-year old (and brief former Bull) Cartier Martin. Martin went to Kansas State under coach Jim Wooldridge...who worked for Tim Floyd.
