Well we just passed along this rumor yesterday saying the Raptors were interested in Taj Gibson. But he was just one of several names mentioned, including Serge Ibaka of the Magic.
And today it looks like the Raptors wanted Ibaka more, completing a trade with Orlando:
The Raptors, who targeted Ibaka before last year’s draft, will send back Terrence Ross and a 2017 first-round pick, according to Wojnarowski.
That 2017 first-round pick will be whichever is lowest between the Raptors and the Clippers
Ibaka is better and younger than Gibson, though both are going to be unrestricted free agents this summer.
For what it’s worth, the Tribune’s KC Johnson said he didn’t hear there was anything to rumored interested in Taj.
The Raptors are in Chicago tonight to face the Bulls. You have to assume that Ibaka won’t be ready for the game, and Terrence Ross obviously won’t be playing either. Gar Forman’s plan is working.
