Jimmy Butler named to the Olympic team

Jimmy Butler is headed to Brazil to play for the USA Olympic team

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Basketball season never stops, even after the NBA finals end. We have Summer League, the FIBA U17 World Championships, and the Olympics.

Jimmy Butler will apart of the US Olympic team.

As reported by the Chicago Tribune last week, Butler is a part of the 12 man roster that includes the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, and even Paul George. Jimmy will also be reunited with former Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau who serves as an assistant to head coach Mike Krzyzewski. As we all know, Butler was nearly reunited with his former coach on draft night. This will be an interesting team that the USA is taking to Brazil as Durant and Anthony are the only players who have Olympic experience before. This won't exactly be a walk in the park for Team USA and they could fall short of the expected goal of a gold medal in Rio.

Butler will surely get some playing time with the team and this is a great step for him in terms of him becoming more a superstar in the NBA. The Olympics begin August 5th and run all the way till the 21st.
