Taj Gibson 'connected to much of the league' in trade rumors

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Sean Deveney of the Sporting News:

Gibson’s name has been connected to much of the league over the last few months, from Los Angeles to Toronto to Phoenix to Detroit to Portland.

In recent weeks, he has not played with the type of energy for which he has been known, and there has been speculation that he is frustrated with the addition of Nikola Mirotic and Pau Gasol (though his playing time has not changed much). Gibson still has two years and $17.4 million on his deal, which is a problem in moving him.

(sorry it's an awful slide show. ht: hoopsrumors)

A few quick things:

  • The 'connected' seems like a new rumor to me, as if it was regurgitating just a general consensus of existing rumors...I haven't seen any of them.

  • The speculation that Taj is unhappy is clearly marked as such. But it wouldn't be that outlandish, as it was reported before the season. The 'drop in energy' seems unfair to me, as he had yet another ankle sprain (and patella tendonitis) recently.

  • I think Taj is on a bargain contract, and the teams above (assuming Deveney meant the Clippers) aren't selling parts, and thus wouldn't mind having Gibson as opposed to expiring deals or a younger player.

  • Other mentioned names on the block include Arron Afflalo, Wilson Chandler, and Reggie Jackson, though I don't think I'd trade Taj for any of them. Nor do I think you'd really need to, unless the Bulls see a 'need' in not taking on long-term salary without shedding Taj's contract.
