Bulls to move practice facility to Downtown Chicago

New, comments

This was reported to be likely happening a couple of weeks ago, but now it's official.

The Chicago Bulls today announced that the team has committed to move its practice facility to downtown Chicago from its current location in Deerfield, Ill. The team has practiced at the Sheri L. Berto Center since 1992.

The team is in the process of exploring a variety of site locations throughout the city. A specific timetable has not yet been established for the project, which will be privately funded.

KC Johnson cites sources that indicate the consideration of the practice facility being part of an entertainment complex east of the United Center.

The UC does indeed exist of a bit of an island, and I don't doubt the Bulls desire to keep fans there longer on game nights with proximate options. A report of a possible entertainment complex in the area popped up weeks ago.

I'll say as a resident that I'm sure there will be some clever deal (or extension of an existing clever deal) to grease the wheels on getting this done, but as long as it has a CTA station (Pink Line passes directly alongside, and past, the UC already) I probably will be just fine with it. Though I'm going to be going to far fewer games next season, maybe they'll be good again soon!
