Bulls 92, Timberwolves 81: Carlos Boozer awakens from his slumber

Carlos Boozer scored 24 points and pulled down nine boards as the Bulls coasted to a 92-81 preseason win over the Timberwolves.

There's really not a whole lot to say about this one. The Timberwolves pretty much threw a JV squad out there, and the Bulls jumped on them right out of the gate. The Wolves would half-heartedly threaten from time to time throughout the game, but turnovers and lack of size killed them all night long.

Carlos Boozer was key to the Bulls' fast start, as he should have been against a Wolves team that was starting Greg Stiemsma and Dante Cunningham in the frontcourt. Nevertheless, it was nice to see Boozer actually convert his shots, because he had been mostly terrible this preseason. I'll take slaying bums over slaying nothing. He finished with 24 points and nine boards on 10-of-17 shooting.

Taj Gibson also performed well against the weak Wolves frontline, posting a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Gibson was clowning fools at the end of the game, naturally getting Stacey King way too excited about garbage time tomfoolery. But what I was happiest to see out of Taj was a smooth jumper and 4-of-4 from the line. He allegedly worked on his jumper in the offseason, but we had yet to really see it in action. It was there tonight.

The man whose jumper wasn't there tonight, was Marco Belinelli's. And it hasn't been there all preseason. He's pretty much been a disaster on all levels so far. He won't be this bad all season, but there's little signs of encouragement. I think he just missed another open jumper.

Lastly, and I really hate to have to continue to harp on this, but Tom Thibodeau once again went back to the starters in the fourth quarter to close this game out. A game that was never really close, against a team that had no real interest in coming back. Luol Deng played 37 minutes and was on the court until the final buzzer. Is there any doubt he's playing 40 minutes per game again this season?

Only two more of these games left before the real ones start. Thank God.
