David Thorpe prefers Stephen Curry to Rose: Az (Chicago) Are you still standing by your statement that you'd rather have Steph Curry over Derrick Rose? Or would you like to apoligize for making such a ridiculous statement? David Thorpe (12:42 PM) I'd still choose Curry, call me whatever you want. But I'd rather have Rose with the game on the line in an iso.

Thorpe chat

David Thorpe: "I've never been higher on him (Rose) than I am right now."

Rose, Mayo, Lopez, and Westbrook all tied for the top spot in his rookie rankings.

More David Thorpe (this time Derrick Rose)

"Too often, most of Rose's energy is sapped by what he has to do on offense, so there isn't enough left in the tank to use on defense. For Rose to be able to compete better on defense, he has to lighten his load on offense. For instance, maybe he can pass the ball outside more (which requires less energy) instead of forcing shots on drives in traffic (which require great energy)."

Credit Tyrus' good game last night to David Thorpe

Tom (Chicago): Coach, I saw you at the Bulls game last night, and then Tyrus has his best game of the year. What did you say to him? David Thorpe: (12:09 PM ET ) We had dinner the night before and just discussed being energetic and competitive. Playing with passion is requisite for him to be good. He did last night, and has for 5 straight games. But this is still something that has to be done for a lot longer before the Bulls are ready to hug him and be proud of their drafting decision.

David Thorpe's notes on Rose's first game

[From the FanShots -ed.] Good things to say, and accurate in my estimation. He throws in a comparison to Dwyane Wade for good measure. I'm still giddy from last night. (There are notes on Oden in there too, but who cares?)

Rose still not in the top 5...yet

David Thorpe chat 9/26 - tons of Bulls stuff!

[From the FanShots -ed.] Enrique (Chicago, IL): Have gotten a chance to see Deng, Rose or Ty thomas play recently ? As a bulls fan should be expecting a playoff run or another lottery season. David Thorpe: (12:09 PM ET ) I saw Rose and TT this week in Chicago play pickup. And I watched Luol play in Europe. I think the Bulls can be a surprise team this year. but will have to survive a tough start. New coach, BG issues, tough comp early on. ==================== Jaron (Phoenix): How does Rose look? Is he vocal in practice or does he take a back seat to the vets? David Thorpe: (12:12 PM ET ) He's a very quiet person. Strong inside on drives and cuts and getting better as a shooter. ==================== Mike (Chicago): Hey Thorpe, after being in Chicago, who's currently the Bulls best player and who do you think will be the best of the bulls? David Thorpe: (12:15 PM ET ) Some of the vets were not there. Deng might have been the best player in Europe this summer, he looks totally healthy and has added a strong 3 point shot to his game. Gooden and Hughes will like playing for Vinny too. ==================== Kool (Bronx, NY): What should Ben Gordon do now? David Thorpe: (12:19 PM ET ) Sign the QO. ==================== Claude (Miami): Where were you last week? You ruined my Wednesday! David Thorpe: (12:21 PM ET ) Sorry. I was at the Berto Center and didn't want to bother Paxson with finding a table and a computer. They were very kind to let me come in and watch. ==================== Meredith (L.A.): Was Hinrich at the Berto for the pickup games you watched. If so, how did he look? And did you get to talk to him about what he thinks his role with be with Derrick Rose now looked at as the future PG? David Thorpe: (12:38 PM ET ) I thought Kirk looked terrific. Stronger and with his swagger back. I see him playing with Rose a lot. ==================== JP, Lausanne: Could you watch Noah? How did he look at practice? David Thorpe: (12:39 PM ET ) Noah added 8 pounds and looks stronger. Made some j's but still flicks his left hand too much. Gray lost 30 pounds!!

Rose's most glaring weakness in both the NCAA Finals and his brief stint in summer league was his inability to exploit ball screens set for him. They are not typically found in the dribble-drive motion offense that he ran for Memphis, so it's not surprising that he was easy to defend in July. Studying the options he has as a ball handler and practicing them each day should get him up to speed quickly.

Thorpe on BG and Deng ben (rhode island): who's got the best chance to land gordon? SportsNation David Thorpe: (12:03 PM ET ) I'm really not sure. Sorry. But it does not look good for the Bulls. Stan, Colorado: Do the Bulls have a shot of the playoffs without Ben Gordon? SportsNation David Thorpe: (12:14 PM ET ) Yes. Ryan, Chicago: Is an undersized 2 guard like Ben Gordon ever worth max money in the NBA? SportsNation David Thorpe: (12:26 PM ET ) Hypothetically, perhaps. But not in this instance. Greg (toronto): With all things being equal, who would you rather have Igoudala, Josh Smith, or Deng? SportsNation David Thorpe: (12:41 PM ET ) Deng Iggy Smith Eric (Tokyo): How is Luol feeling this year? Ready to get back to the level of his breakout year 2 years ago? Thanks David! SportsNation David Thorpe: (12:59 PM ET ) He said he's healthier than he's been in 2 years.
