David Thorpe prefers Stephen Curry to Rose:
Az (Chicago)
Are you still standing by your statement that you'd rather have Steph Curry over Derrick Rose? Or would you like to apoligize for making such a ridiculous statement?David Thorpe (12:42 PM)
I'd still choose Curry, call me whatever you want. But I'd rather have Rose with the game on the line in an iso.
Rose, Mayo, Lopez, and Westbrook all tied for the top spot in his rookie rankings.
"Too often, most of Rose's energy is sapped by what he has to do on offense, so there isn't enough left in the tank to use on defense. For Rose to be able to compete better on defense, he has to lighten his load on offense. For instance, maybe he can pass the ball outside more (which requires less energy) instead of forcing shots on drives in traffic (which require great energy)."
..and he should be!
Rose still not in the top 5...yet
Rose's most glaring weakness in both the NCAA Finals and his brief stint in summer league was his inability to exploit ball screens set for him. They are not typically found in the dribble-drive motion offense that he ran for Memphis, so it's not surprising that he was easy to defend in July. Studying the options he has as a ball handler and practicing them each day should get him up to speed quickly.
