Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

The last great night of Chris Duhon's Bulls career (?)

Sham with the fitting eulogy:

The first 20+ point and 20+ assist game in Bucks history was undermined somewhat by Chris Duhon's statline of 15 assists with 0 turnovers, along with scoring 22 points on 9 shots. All of this took place in 14 less minutes than what Sessions played. Had he played the same amount of minutes as Sessions (44), he almost certainly would have had better overall numbers than Sessions did.

And this is a bad thing, because this is Chris Duhon we're talking about. Chris Duhon, in his penultimate game as a Chicago Bull, no less. Duhon's tenure with the Bulls has always been highlighted by the occasional staggeringly brilliant performance, be it his triple double versus Charlotte, his eight made three pointers versus Atlanta, or his 38 point game versus the Warriors this season. Every four months or so, he turns in a performance so dominating that you can't help but wonder what it is that makes him so shit for the other 80 games of the season. And tonight, he has done this again. But this is no excuse for Sessions to let him put up numbers of such magnitude - it is, after all, Chris Duhon. At some point, you have to make him look like the shitty point guard that he is.

...for Chris Duhon fans, you get one final chance to see your hero in action for the team that will probably constitute 80% of his entire NBA career.

Man, I sure hope that's true. As I said before, his recent incomprehensible increase in playing time along with my general twitchiness with all things 'hustle-y' related with this team leave me unconvinced. Some times I think the only thing that would survive a Bullsocolypse is Chris Duhon.

In fact, I won't be convinced otherwise until he's holding up another team's jersey. Whether it's in English or not.

All those registries you can look up easily
They're intended to be that way, so people know what to buy.

Now, having the time and desire to search around for celebrity baby wish lists...

Seriously, how did you find this?  Did the expecting Mrs. Hinrich make the gossip column?

i went to toysrus.com, clicked on baby registries, typed in Hinrich, and voila! (I saw that his wife's name was Jill from the article today)

The Hinrichs seem a little germophobic with all that sanitation stuff.

I was thinking the same thing.

They have
two dogs they keep in the house so the sanitation stuff is understandable. Chalk it up to first time parents too.

by sue369 on Apr 16, 2008 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't understand
If they've got the dogs to handle all the sanitation stuff (licking up food and other droppings and whatnot) what on earth would they need extra sanitary equipment for?

nah, as it's truly a blessing
it gives Kirk a reason to turn down all those overtures from USA basketball and stay near Deerfield, which is all Pax needed to hear.

I have this
horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that Pax just won't let Duhon go.

by sue369 on Apr 16, 2008 9:47 AM CDT reply actions

Well,
between Duhon and Kirk, there is some duplication--one of them's got to go, Sue.

I mean, if you have two equal players and one of them is being paid a lot of money, the choice is obvious. Right?

If he does get traded,
I'm hoping for either an east coast team (so I don't have to stay up till the middle of the night to watch him) or Portland (to consolidate my NBA rooting interests).  But I'd rather he stays, too.

Possible explanation for the Duhon minutes
from the last para of KC's story:

'Even if, as expected, the Bulls don't re-sign Duhon, his effective minutes down the stretch could pay dividends. The Bulls could re-sign Duhon in a sign-and-trade scenario to make the salary-cap numbers work in a potentially larger off-season deal.'

by alec on Apr 16, 2008 10:08 AM CDT reply actions

i don't know
if that's an explanation for his minutes, or just an added benefit cause he hasn't sucked so much recently.  i think he's a decent backup, just not a fit for our team - and having him start is an insult to gordon and also speaks volumes about our team that we'd be starting a clear backup over someone who clearly deserves the starting spot over him, or that we're that bad.

he was out of the rotation for almost a month - so clearly it didn't seem like the bulls thought it was necessary to play him to help his status.  and then somehow boylan decided to play him despite our glut of guards.

besides the Bucks game
I thought he has sucked as much recently.

I guess it works just as a 'keep options open' move. But they really only needed to give him 5 minutes to prove to the league he wasn't dead.

Duhon's in the class of player that's looking for between minimum and MLE money, so he doesn't have to sit around and wait/see what Paxson's plans are in some kind of sign/trade. That said, he also seems the caliber of player that gets signed very late in the offseason.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Apr 16, 2008 10:32 AM CDT up reply actions

age is on his side
I could see that putting him slightly ahead of the fringe point guard scrum. It's still doubtful he'll get a deal similar to the long term Antonio Daniels, and Earl Watson contracts.

by hscs on Apr 16, 2008 11:00 AM CDT up reply actions

depends what he's asking for
Maybe the Bobcats give him a look, they need a backup PG who's not named McInnis, and they have a weird policy of trying to drive up interest by signing 'local' heroes (like McInnis!)

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Apr 16, 2008 11:11 AM CDT up reply actions

If Duhon makes Earl Watson money
the league is officially a scam.

by NBA Observer on Apr 16, 2008 11:39 AM CDT up reply actions

yeah
well i thought he had maybe been shooting it a little better, or maybe i was just deceived cause for the most part he wasn't playing quite as many minutes and it seemed like he was a little more efficient, i guess.  plus, saying i think he sucked less, doesn't mean i liked him out on the floor, and doesn't mean he was good by any means, but at least marginally better than some of his games earlier in the season.
