Open Game Thread #64: Bulls vs Utah Jazz

Thabo's back tonight, although he'll surely be in 'earn your way' mode. Which makes sense, even if it hasn't made sense in other cases.

The Jazz are oddly bad (14-19) on the road, so there's hope. Despite their Sloan-ness, they are only average defensively, although because of their Sloan-ness, they lead the league in fouls. Luckily the Bulls can handle a high-octane offense, and on that end themselves they're full of strong-willed-and-bodied slashers and finishers. Uh...

My handy Bulls.com newsletter lists Kirilenko as day-to-day and the Jazz starting 3 guards in Deron Williams, C.J. Miles, and Thabo-draft-contemporary Ronnie Brewer.  Resist the temptation Boylan.

Below is where you and I whine about how Boylan thinks that the Gooden-Noc (nickamed "it's time") frontcourt is swell because it 'matches up' with Boozer and Okur. Something about spacing.

I wish mybulls
was more informative. I'd be interested to see who Boylan thinks busted ass in practice, what time each player arrived at the Berto and U.C., if Hinrich ate all his vegetables, etc.
Fire Boylan!

I bet Thabo sees
little playing time. It will be interesting to see who gets playing time in the back court. I hope Kirk keeps his butt on the floor tonight.

I'll be off the grid in about five minutes...
So if you can't respond by then, don't worry about it. Thanks.

Kirk is in prime trouble
for fouling out tonight.  He is going against a good pg who drives to the basket.  When he moves to the 2, he is playing against a slashing big guard.  I'm guess he gets his 2nd half 4 minutes into the 1st, 3rd foul 2 minutes in the second and 4th foul 1 minute into third.

After that I expect Boylan to play Hughes at the point for 23 straight minutes.

by danger mouse on Mar 11, 2008 6:41 PM CDT   0 recs

I hope you
are wrong. Kirk was hurt the last time they played.

Wassup w/ no hd for the last few home games?
And they have blackout the national telecast.  This is really annoying.

I was driving home from work
and the guys at ESPN 1000 were disussing several Bulls that hadn't showed up in time via Ben Wallace.  Any word if they made it?  I think I remember the people were Tyrus, Noah, BG and Du, but could be wrong

Oh Crap
I hope that it's nothing big because I am so sick of these guys not getting to the games/practice on time. They are supposed to be professionals!

If it's a team effort
would it count as good character and leadership if they manage to organize a big chunk of the team to openly revolt against Boylan (and, I suppose, Paxson)?

looks back to form

Means he'll be a bench player still now that Hughes is here

Boylan
Pays the refs to call fouls on Tyrus

by gobulls1124 on Mar 11, 2008 8:07 PM CDT   0 recs

Just got in and turned the game on -
and much to my joy and happiness, Thabo and Ty are both in!  OK, so Thabo just went out, but sounds like he had a nice stretch, and most importantly he's back!
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 11, 2008 8:13 PM CDT   0 recs

Now
Noc is standing around chatting with the refs...  win the game, then chat up the refs on the finer points of the hand check...

i still get suprised by
how much he complains, he spends a lot of time on the qround with his arms up saying, wtf, instead of getting up and running to the other end

by ihatenoce on Mar 11, 2008 8:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

TT needs to give that ball up sooner
so he can get it back in a better spot.

by ihatenoce on Mar 11, 2008 8:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Why can't
Tyrus and Thabo ever be on the court together for longer than 2 minutes? I'm going to be pissed if Hughes starts the 3rd quarter...

by Ugh It Live! on Mar 11, 2008 8:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Did Gooden really
fake out gordon starting the break and then proceed to dribble hard to the corner to pass out to tyrus?  He had ben convinced the ball was comin then whoop, the bangin beard was driving hard.

by TheMattador on Mar 11, 2008 8:23 PM CDT   0 recs

they look SO good!

I would love
To see a team of Thabo, Deng, Thomas and Noah just grow together for years

Hey look
TT doesn't get in foul trouble and runs the plays and he is still in.

Why has Noah
been on the bench for so long?

by Option27 on Mar 11, 2008 8:30 PM CDT   0 recs

TT is stealing his minutes
I think the coaches have decided that the Noah/TT front court is to liable to get out rebounded/lose their man.

Yeah, having the two best rebounders...

For once I will give credit to Boylan...
for leaving Tyrus in the game after he picked up his 2nd foul

God!
I am so sick of the love affair with Gooden!

by Option27 on Mar 11, 2008 8:34 PM CDT   0 recs

Nice 3
by Hinrich, but when did they forget about the 2-for-1 at the end of the quarter/half? Is that another "benchable" offense?

by Ugh It Live! on Mar 11, 2008 8:37 PM CDT   0 recs

Good half!!
Thabo looked terrific but so did TT, Noah and Hughes

by chgobr on Mar 11, 2008 8:39 PM CDT   0 recs

Hughes looked the best on the bench
he had 2 good minutes on the floor.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 11, 2008 8:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thabo was
looking good. Would like to see Kirk and Thabo in the back court more. A whole lot less of Hughes would make me happy.

Tyrus is playing very well and I hope he gets more minutes in the 2nd half. Less Gooden would be good too.

by sue369 on Mar 11, 2008 8:46 PM CDT   0 recs

112-97?
I'll take that.

by TheMattador on Mar 11, 2008 8:47 PM CDT   0 recs

Enough for the new people here
to praise the Lord that this is the game that changes the season, with optimism coming out of their ears, only to start it all over again with the Bulls' next loss.

No.
The Jazz just play like crap on the road. I was expecting this, actually. Fits with the pattern of win/loss/win/loss/ etc.

by Prevenge on Mar 12, 2008 11:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Holy shit, Gooden
Maybe he remembered being better than Boozer in college.  He's playing with a little extra tonight.

This team drive me crazy
When they play like this, I hope they sneak into the playoffs and surprise some heads.

But most nights when they just suck, I just want them to get the best draft pick possible.

I have no idea how to feel about any of these games!

Fun game thus far
but every minute Gray plays, it should be Noah.  He's an awful matchup for Okur - even Red noticed it!

Boylan has a keen ability
to play a line-up a couple minutes too long.  Or play the wrong line up at the wrong time.

And for some reason, he never plays the Gooden-Noce frontcourt until the end of the game.  I don't get it.  I just don't get it.

by ihatenoce on Mar 11, 2008 9:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

something is bound to click

Don't hate the man...
Just because he leads the team in every significant stat category tonight.

Let him have his moment now, because I'm sure he'll be lambasted on here tomorrow.

It's weird when he has such a hideous
looking foul shot that it goes in fairly regularly, when Ben Wallace looked better and shot so much worse.

But yeah, love the kid's emotion, and how hard he is still playing when he hadn't had a point up to those free throws.

Maybe I'll take up hockey.
