If Tyrus plays well against Utah
( a veteran, defensive minded team) , I might just have to jump back on that TT-hype-wagon.

And if Duhon goes off for another 32 point tonight, I'll..not have to worry about it because it won't happen.

If nothing else,
there's the matchup between Ronnie Brewer and Thabo Sefolosha.  It hasn't generated the same level of angst as Aldridge/Thomas, but some Bulls fans lament not drafting Brewer.

Then Griffin somehow blows a f three on one break.

And of course it leads to a three for Utah.

by Bluelou on Feb 9, 2008 9:10 PM CST up reply actions

After the block.
It pisses me off, as a matter of principle, when refs call a foul for contact AFTER the block. By definition, contact AFTER a perfectly clean block couldn't possisbly have affected the shot. The shot is entirely in the past by that point.
LSU 38 OHIO STATE 24 - LSU IS THE NATIONAL CHAMPION AND I AM THE KING OF BOURBON STREET!!

by 1958ChiTown on Feb 9, 2008 9:12 PM CST up reply actions

doesn't mean it's a bad call
regardless how you feel about it personally.

It was the correct call, in accordance with NBA rules.

Is it spring training yet?

by Bluelou on Feb 9, 2008 9:16 PM CST up reply actions

But the NBA refs never call that consistently...
Sometimes, if there is a clean block followed by contact, there is no call. For example, look at seventy-five percent of the BG drives were he gets blocked and falls down. There is often contact after a clean block, but no call.

Other times, like Thabo's block, they call it.

IMO, if the contact if after a clean block, no foul. Why should the defender be punished because his momentum carries him into the same space where the offensive player's momentum took him? If it's after the shot, it couldn't have affected the shot.

LSU 38 OHIO STATE 24 - LSU IS THE NATIONAL CHAMPION AND I AM THE KING OF BOURBON STREET!!

by 1958ChiTown on Feb 9, 2008 9:14 PM CST up reply actions

Well, I don't know where you've been
'58, but the Jazz just won 10 in a row. If the Bulls manage a win tonight, then they've started a two game Jazz losing streak.

But you're right in that they really don't have many superior defenders; AK and  Milsap is about it with Brewer out. And Deron too, but he's small. You'd think with Sloan they'd be a defensive team, but they really just work hard and rebound. And they can score a lot, so credit the Bulls "D" tonight, so far.

If the Jazz had managed to trade AK for Marion, I think they'd have been almost unbeatable. Real strong team.

by marionette on Feb 9, 2008 9:25 PM CST up reply actions

Not sure the game is over, and that the Jazz
suck. The foul calls are definitely making it tough though, and missed dunks...wtf.

If anyone wonders about Tyrus' dunks...
...and why those "flashy dunks" are more than just flash*, they need to go back and watch a certain play: with 3:30+ left in the third, Sefo faked a shot, spun, went up without a plan and dished to Smith. Smith got fouled but barely got the ball to the hoop. He made the free throws, but Thomas would have dunked that with the foul. He at least would have had a chance for three points.

Not only are dunks much more likely to be made than layups without a fould, they are even more likely to go in when someone is being fouled.

Dunks, especially the Tyrus Thomas kind, are more than "just flash".

*As Kemp, NBA Observer, Sports2 and other windbags would have you believe believe the opposite.

Okay - Boylan, PLEASE:
Noah
TT
Thabo
Du
Noc
(and Noc, just because he is scoring right now)

I've started to think Boylan's goals
are at odds with the Bulls long-term development.  He wants to win now - and to do so with savvy old vets, squeaking into the playoffs and earning himself an extension.  Another coach who had years on a contract would have the luxury of developing our younger players.  Granted, he's inherited an injured team.  But there's no excuse for tonight's near-benching of Thomas and Noah.  11 and 18 minutes?  Neither is foul trouble an excuse - these two don't play enough for fouls to be an issue.

Boylan has to go.  He hasn't wiped the Skiles slate clean.  He's pulling the same garbage his buddy did, and brought the same baggage with him.

Game over
and Boylan's ridiculous sub rotation antics bury the Bulls once again.

Coaching and lineups don't really
matter when the whole team shoots like this.

Just missing wide open looks all game.

if there was a real coach here
the team wouldn't be playing like this.
It's because there ISN'T one that the team sucks as a whole.

Why didn't the Bulls attempt a three?
Plus they took an hour for a 20 foot desperation Joe Smith fadeaway

Noc did....

Irritating loss to an irritating team.
I am going to have some beer and beat a polygamist.

Next game is against the Hornets, so I am sure that Chandler lament will be at its apex here.

Chris Paul, another player I hate.

We need to crush them.

Dear sir,
my wife would never do anything so vile.

No drinking yet. I just loathe that team.

The Cavs, the Knicks, the Jazz, the Pistons, and the Lakers awaken in me a monstrous anger.

I don't really like the Blazers, the Rockets, or the Celtics either.

Ben Gordon
sitting there slumped back on his chair with a lifeless, smug look on his face....

I seem to remember a guy named Jordan who, when he had a sprained wrist (and he did MANY times), would simply tape it up and go out and play....HARD.

BG - a legend in his own mind.

Bulls were pretty much competitive
with the West's lower calibre playoff teams. That's pretty good.

by philosoball on Feb 9, 2008 10:28 PM CST reply actions

Especially with the entire Core out.
I really feel we could have win more games on the road trip if we had merely cut down on turnovers and stupid mistakes. I don't feel we were outclassed. That's why the losses are so infuriating.

So ironic that the entire "core" is
missing, when in another sense they have been missing all year. Boylan is a Griff and Wallace toady but I'm encouraged about the talent and fighting spirit of the "New Core"... sounds like a music category?!

The Bulls aren't....
Boylan is.

Plain and simple.
Fix the coach issue(s) and the team will come around.

i know i am in the minority but,
i don't think they are lower caliber p-off team in the West.

they are a solid squad that made it to the West Finals last year.

they are starting to play some good ball, and i think they will have a real nice second half.

by Orlando Woolridge on Feb 9, 2008 10:34 PM CST up reply actions

they are a solid squad
Yes they are.
Woulda been nice if the Bulls woulda played them like they played GS the other night.

That's the most frustrating me thinks - that the Bulls ARE capable of solid play.
But they are a ship with a broken rudder right now.

Decent Effort
They looked tired.

Yes they did.
I'm sure they are happy to be going home tonight.

Another excellent game from Thabo!
And I fail to see how this team "sucked" tonight. Utah is like 33-19, WCF last year, all-stars Boozer and Okur, near-star Deron. Aren't they about 4th in the West?

Bulls looked over their shoulders for Kirilenko to block them, and when they were in the lane. Did UT get one single illegal D called on them? That makes it tough, but Jazz still needed Price to go off, or it would've been close.

Would've been nice to see more of Tyrus and Noah, though.

I thought Noah
really struggled tonight. TT was a -22 tonight.

Bulls minus the core
Look just fine when they set the tempo and get out to an early lead and then protect it.  Attempting to come from behind, they don't very good at all.

I had this game pegged as a loss at the start of the season anyway.  The fact that it was even remotely close without Deng, Gordon, and Hinrich isn't bringing me down.  Sure, a win would have been nice with a days rest, but the Jazz are no slouches at home.

I still don't understand why the team makes injured players travel with the team on a long road trip.  Send them home to rest.

by NBA Observer on Feb 10, 2008 9:46 AM CST reply actions

They also dressed Ben and Kirk
It sends the message,

"If you start really killing us, we'll throw in our underperforming, injured players!"

Strikes fear in their eyes, me thinks.

Boylan says he
doesn't give back jobs. The injured have to work their way back in. Kirk will be back Tues. night and I'm sure will come off the bench like he did before.
