Open Game Thread #49: Bulls at Golden State Warriors

[Big thanks to wjb1492 for today's game preview. -Matt]

Last night, the few Bulls actually available to play came close to beating the Blazers.  With Lu, BG and Kirk on the bench with injuries, and Veektor on his way to freedom, Noc, Du, and Thabo all logged 40+ minutes of PT.  Senior citizens Ben Wallace and Joe Smith both played 30 minutes or more.  Ty even got more than one stint of PT.  And tonight's opponent, the Golden State Warriors?  They were enjoying their 5th night in a row off.  Maybe they'll be rusty...

The second night of back-to-backs has not been good for the Bulls this season, with a dismal record of 3 and 9.  On top of that, the team will be playing short handed again, and those guys that went 40 minutes last night could be playing on fumes against the well-rested and up-tempo Warriors.  And just for fun, in the event of a total blow-out, the game is on TNT (the late one, no less!)so we can get Sir Charles and crew's take on the Bulls' shortcomings.  All of which means I'm going to be royally pissed when I have to get up tomorrow morning on a short night's sleep, unless the Bulls manage to pull off the win tonight.  According to accuscore, which gives the Bulls only a 21% probablity of winning, we should all just go to bed.  On the other hand, who'd want to skip Chris Webber's return?  I'm almost as intrigued to see how he fits in with GS as I am to watch Shaq run with the Suns.  Hey, it's not like the Bulls have new additions for us to wonder about.

Get well soon, Kirk, Lu and BG.  I miss my delusional expectations of winning.

Wha, wha, whaaat?
A 10:30 start here on the East Coast sucks, but it gives me a reason to drink by myself on a Thursday night. A distinguished pastime for any Chicago sports fan. Oh well, let's win this one for the Veektor!

PS - I'm setting the over-under on TT's minutes at 21 minutes (it is a back-to-back after all). Place yer bets.

Breakout game for Tyrus!
We're gonna try to play fast to counter all those athletes on Golden State - the geezers are gonna be winded, too - so I'm going bold.  T2 for 33 minutes.  21 points, several of which will be thunderous dunks, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists and 2 steals.  Afterwards Boylan will praise BW's toughness and intangibles, despite the loss.

T2's busting out today!

by Freethefro on Feb 7, 2008 8:32 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

LOL
Love the comment about Boylan!  So sad, so true.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Feb 7, 2008 8:39 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Though one alarming note
is that Noah's played a total of 30 minutes in the last two games.

by Freethefro on Feb 7, 2008 8:39 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Seriously?
Last night, despite us being quite under-manned without our starting backcourt, TT, Noah, and Gray managed about 30 minutes between the 3 of them.

As long as Smith and Wallace are here, I'll take the under, and swear about it.

by balta1701 on Feb 7, 2008 9:00 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

And the over takes the day!
26 minutes for TT!
A great game for him. I kept expecting him to be sitting out of timeouts in the 4th but was pleasantly surprised. We need more of that and more Noah after some very effective 1st quarter minutes.

by Old Skool Sloan on Feb 8, 2008 8:21 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

With the buyout of Kyrhapa
A new addition is possible, but maybe unlikely to be  more than something at the league minimum.  Is Khalid El-Amin available?
Interest Level = Wins - Losses + 2*Tyrus Time + 1.5*(Thabo + Noah Time) - .4*Bricked layups + 3*Red Kerr Candies

by cubbybear on Feb 7, 2008 8:34 PM CST   0 recs

I'm going to bed.
I'm hoping for a win when I wake up tomorrow. I don't give a shit who plays or for how long as long as they get a win.
Never went to church camp but I did go to Girl Scout camp. If you ever need help making a campfire I'm your girl. :P

Boylan cost us the game the last time
these two teams played.

His absolutely moronic fourth quarter rotation, especially in the backcourt, practically handed Golden State the victory.

I have rarely been that livid after a Bulls game.

livid after a Bulls game
Haven't been a heck of a lot of reasons to be HAPPY after a game this year....

But I had forgotten how pissed I was too after the last GS game....until you reminded me.

BTW - Ben Gordon has officially made the "pussy" list....
injured, my arse...

Is it spring training yet?

Haha, I've been waiting for this day to make my first post. I bet AJ Guyton's also very available.

Nice use of Carmina Burana during
player introductions.

That was rousing.

That being said, f*** Golden State.

I like the aggressive, unforgiving Chitown
a lot better than last year's negative nancy chitown.
Goodbye Viktor, and Godspeed.

Holy shit Chris Webber is fat
Is that Michael Sweetney wearing a "Webber" jersey?

by Big D on Feb 7, 2008 9:48 PM CST   0 recs

Um
I have some bad news.  Sweetney ate him.

by balta1701 on Feb 7, 2008 9:52 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Maybe he ate Sweetney!
I haven't seen Sweetney in a while, have you?

by Big D on Feb 7, 2008 9:53 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Weird
I was just talking about Sweetney today.  I think he'd fit in quite well with the 07-08 team.  He'd be perfect.
And the starting line up for your world champion Chicago Bulls. . .

Did Joe Smith play this well when he was
originally drafted?

I can't imagine why he wouldn't have been a force when he was young and fit. He undoubtedly has skills, at least at this stage of his career.

by 1958ChiTown on Feb 7, 2008 9:53 PM CST   0 recs

I think he was pretty much the same player
that he is now.  He's probably a little stronger now than he was when he was younger.  His problem was that he was never going to be the classic post-up power forward, and since he was the #1 pick in the draft people considered him a bust because of that.

I despise most of the commentators on the national broadcasts.

I am watching the WGN feed. At least I can find some comic relief in Red's paroxysms.

15 for Duhon in 9 minutes.  And throw in a steal and an assist.

so we should fire out training
and strength staff....the injuries are killing us. Notice how practically everyone on the team is wearing the black leg things.

We look slow tonight

Like chris webber, I'm baaaaaaaack

Also like chris webber, I cant really jump that high or run that fast, or belong in the NBA

Unlike chris webber, when my state of michigan school paid for me to come here, it was totally legal

BAM!

Sign some guard out of the D-League, I don't care, but just don't play Griffin.

by Big D on Feb 7, 2008 10:08 PM CST   0 recs

Nice turn over A drain
Just like Boylan to get a lead and then put in griffin and the lead IMMEDIATELY starts to dwindle.

Clock work.

by Bluelou on Feb 7, 2008 10:09 PM CST   0 recs

And worse yet
Boylan puts a drain on DAVIS!

Why in the world did Skiles and now Boylan praise griffin's play?
How many times have we heard shit talk about his "defensive prowess"??

ugh.

Is it spring training yet?

When Noah
passed to Griffin on the fast break, I realized that for the first time in history, an NBA team's center was faster than its point guard.

Gordon 43% career, 42.4% '07-'08.
Hinrich 41.3% career, 40.8% this year. Addition by subtraction?

I'm not 100% serious about getting rid of one, much less both. But those ARE the stats.

TT @ the 3
This is what I'm talking about.  TT is in with Noah and Smith against a small, running, good-shooting team.

This drives me crazy.

It's not optimal.
