Open Game Thread #53: Bulls at New Jersey Nets
Man, it's been a long time since I was able to make the assuredly regrettable decision to set-aside time for Bulls basketball. (let alone the time to create a game thread...)
Are the Nets still the Bulls arch-nemesis now that Kidd and Skiles are gone?
The crown jewel of the Nets' haul from Dallas, Devin Harris, won't be back tonight or for a couple weeks after that. If the other guys play, the net result is Kidd, Allen, and Wright going out and Diop, Hassell, Mo Ager coming in. Also it means lots of minutes for Marcus Williams, which usually works out for the opponent.
The crown jewel of "discussion topics most likely to get BaB commenters calling eachother names", Ben Gordon, is reportedly back tonight as well. Deng is a maybe.
Between Gordon's return, Thabo's 'emergence', Boylan wanting guys to 'earn jobs back', Gordon's anointment as 'bench player earned and forever', I foresee 30 minutes for Chris Duhon. Lots of 3-guard lineups (at least with Thabo this time), meaning Tyrus Thomas gets his few ill-fitting minutes at the 3 pinched. Then Boylan will yarble some crap postgame about 'seeing other guys'.
Despite fearing all these things, I'm happy Ben Gordon's back.

Let's get it started. Go Bulls!
"it means lots of minutes for Marcus Williams, which usually works out for the opponent..." that is, unless the opponent is a laptop computer. Haha

Very funny comment by the Nets commentator
"That's the trouble with jumping out to a lead against the Bulls. Then they put in Ben Gordon and Luol Deng."
And in case you think that's some dweeb who doesn't know basketball, it was Marc Jackson who said it.

Bulls would be in great shape
There's only rotation mins for three at the guard pos. C'mon Boylan!!!!!!!! He ain't gonna stop VC neither!!!!!!!
Now maybe that's out of my system, sorry all. Oh yeah, the blur-vision on YES / LPass sucks, too.
Great to see Tyrus with such confidence

Do the Bulls realize they are 10 games under five
Lots of nice blocks by TT this half.

I hate Wallace
Looks like Wall-ass is up to his same BS
Looks like the Bulls are stuck with him....oh....joy...
just saw Piatkowski on the Suns bench
Let's see....
Cold town, shitty team, dumb ass coach(s)...
OR
Warm desert, solid WINNING team, good coach...
Hmmm....
Great effort by Noah and Thabo on that last series
probably because he sat down
this lineup played lousy
on the floor
NJ vs CHI starters
My guess is its a little of both with Duhon playing now and Wallace starting (but Hinrich hasn't played so well).
Scratch that, Hinrich in and Thomas out. Shoot me.

Bull starters are not their most effective players
and to make it worse
F.
What the hell is Boylan doing?
by Old Skool Sloan on Feb 20, 2008 8:54 PM CST reply actions
Du with the big shot
Is something wrong with Deng?
by Old Skool Sloan on Feb 20, 2008 8:56 PM CST reply actions
Smith completely blows the play
This is a bad dream that won't end....
Finally
Just noticed that the Bulls bench
Vintage Bulls
No one knows what to do and the play ends in a turnover or a Gordon wild shot
Trade his ass!
If I'm Boylan
The Nets will have 3 guys on him.
If they send the Bulls out without Gordon, the Nets will be confused
and then VC
I love Vince

"give" my ass
How many times
I feel like every game I watch, unless it's versus the Pistons, I swear I've given up only to give them one more shot to play like I know they can...and they fail
by AGBallinisaHabit on Feb 20, 2008 9:29 PM CST reply actions
At least Ty played pretty well
by Freethefro on Feb 20, 2008 9:30 PM CST reply actions
Yep. It would be nicer if he played OFTEN.
3 small guards
Stormin' Norman
Blamed the loss on the execution not the Refs (although that was brutally one-sided officiating at the end).
When I tuned in at 96 all,
It wasn't only Du, either--a player I shall refer to as "Ben Wallace" (for Sue and hscs, who don't like negative nicknames), our $60 million defender, rotated late, jumping for the blocked shot on the near side of the lane while Jefferson finished his reverse layup on the other side.
If you're Boylan, what do you do--run the guys hard next practice? I suppose if he's using Skiles' small-ball, no-offense playbook, he may as well start running them hard in practice, too. Honestly, what's a coaching staff to do when the Bulls routinely lose close games because of mental mistakes...
Du singled out - but yeah, a team error.
Truly, that play is complete team defensive breakdown. I fault the other 4 guys more than Thabo. He was severely overplaying to Jefferson's right, so he thought he had interior help. Either that, or he didn't think Jefferson could dribble with his left hand.
He had a poor shooting game
by Freethefro on Feb 20, 2008 11:29 PM CST up reply actions
Tiny Ball = No Thabo
Thabo wasn't perfect
but midget lineup is inexcusable against Carter and Jefferson. it's bad enough when the midget lineup is used against a team whose shooting guard ISNT as big (and playing as well) as Carter, but that's just pathetic. cause now we have a shrimp guarding a big shooter AND a small forward. the only thing worse was when Skiles used it vs Houston and McGrady.
he didn't

Boone 15 rebs and 6 pts
At least Wallace contained his man...

Boylan
Yes, there were some big missed calls, but the reality is that this team is lousy, out-coached and cannot execute in key situations.
I have read a lot of posts by Paxson apologists on other sites. Let's face it: he sucks. He "stockpiled assets" and failed to pull the trigger on any trades, he signed Wallace to a cap-killing contract and he now allows Boylan to waste time and talent by overplaying Wallace and Smith to the exclusion of Noah and Tyrus.
Let me just remind everyone that the Bulls raised ticket prices this year. Thanks, Bulls!
glad i missed the game after reading these comment
Pax should go ahead and blow up the whole team except for TT, Noah, and Thabo.
i only saw the highlights and read the box but
seriously
