Important Bulls salary information update

Sham has updated the Bulls salary info, and semi-confirms that Adrian Griffin's contract next season is "certainly not fully guaranteed", and "probably completely unguaranteed".

I always hoped there was no way he got 3 years guaranteed! Man I'm happy.

Not only can they wipe him off the books by simply cutting him, but in the offseason a guy with a unguaranteed contract is even more valueable than an expiring one. Like how the Rockets used Vaseline Spoons to get Scola. Or, uh, how the Bulls traded for Howard Eisley just to free cap room to sign A-Drain in the first place.

Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attn!
I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you're doing and listen...  Cannonball!!!!!!

Sorry Matt, I couldn't help it.  The title of this diary reminded me of that great scene from Anchorman.  (The news about ADrain's contract is great news, btw)

No More Griff
Thank god.  Anything on Wallace?  They have to have the same contract of scrappy old vet who takes team matters into own hands.
Things are looking better already!!
I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

I wouldn't get too excited
The way they love Griff, they may keep him

The way they love Grif...
Oh man. So many ways to go with this. I propose that we have a contest called "The Way They Love Grif..." and pick the funniest 2nd half of that sentence.

Good news
Thanks for information.  I hope its 100% true

If that's true
it means the Bulls had enough expiring contracts to put together a fairly competitive offer for Gasol without getting PJ Brown involved:

Expiring contracts (Griffin, Khyrapa, Duhon, Curry, Nichols)+ Tyrus Thomas works in the trade checker for Gasol.

Oops
I should have mentioned, in that trade I substituted in Thabo ($1.8M) since he has a similar salary to the dearly departed Veektor ($1.9M).

huh?
Why would LA trade Gasol to the Bulls right after they just stole him from under everyone's noses?

by ScottieCartwright on Feb 12, 2008 4:44 PM CST up reply actions

I've never actually seen that rule
Well, the Grizzlies have 14 guys on their roster including McKie, Brown and Crittenden who they got for Gasol.

So they took 3 and gave one and still have an open roster spot.

So they could have taken 4 and given 1.

Additionally they have 2 guys on minimum salary contracts, Andre Brown and Casey Jacobsen who we could accept back in the trade using the minimum salary trade exception.

So yes, 6 for 1 would indeed work just fine in this case.

Actually it'd be 6 for 3, but the point remains.  The roster spots worked out just fine.  Unless you think Brown (1.8pts and 1.9rebs) and Jacobsen (2pts and 1.4rebs) would have been deal breakers.  I think that's highly unlikely.

So again, I don't see any roster spot issue here.
