Who is Joakim Noah?

[From the Diaries. Nice Sunday reading -Matt]

I know all the Bulls articles are posted on the left frame, but this is a great article I had to highlight.

K.C. Johnson interviews Billy Donovan and Tyrone Green- the "Mr. Green" Noah was referring to at the draft. It reveals what Noah is truly like as a person off the court.  He really seems to be a wonderful kid that is as high on life as they come.

I like Noah!
I think he just plays the goofy act to be entertaining. Sometimes it's abit over done but I think he will mature once the Wallaces and Skiles, Pax get ahold of him. I wonder if he needs some attention from his father not being around alot. That may play a part. I noticed his father wasn't at one of Noah's biggest moments of his life thursday. He will be fine after some NBA seasoning. I hope. I did get alittle worried draft night when he started talking. All in all he just needs to learn when it's ok and when it's not ok to be goofy.
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

Can you imagine...
the emotions after a great play like when Nocion hit that 3-pointer against Miami? Thomas came over, and the two chest-bumped, both screaming like mad men. Add Noah to the mix. Imagine Nocioni, if they resign him, Thomas, and Noah at the 3, 4, and 5. Absolute craze.

I think
If you could put all the energy that is in Noah,Nocioni and Thomas you could blow up everything that is anything...the Universe.

The wierdest shit
I ain't going to lie to anyone, but I really really hated the idea of Noah coming to Chicago.

I kept thinking what everyone thought about how we need instant offense, blah blah blah (same shit you've heard forever now).

Since the draft, I've done a lot of reading on the kid and saw the specials on TV about him. Now I'm totally in love with this idea. I really think he's gonna do the things that Rodman used to do by getting in peoples heads.

I love those kind of players. I don't think I'm trying to force the move down my throat or anything but I couldn't help the idea of taking over my mind.

Sad as it is, I don't know which one is more valued to Paxson. I really think Either him or Tyrus will be dealt eventually and I don't know who I'd rather give up.

Tyrus has one year of the Bulls system under his belt already but I think he also think his value is use to the rest of the league. I think maybe taking advantage of that and using him trade bait might be the smartest move and moving Noah into his spot to do those "dirty" things.

In a perfect world, they're able to move Wallace's contract for that perfect inside scorer but I don't think most teams would want to take that contract back.

It's so wierd how I'm now rooting for Noah to stay with our Bulls. I never thought that would have happened when I was still living in my Yi dreams.

do you think Yi will stay with the Bucks or no? I think they will force him to stay there.

by SRQman on Jun 30, 2007 9:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

as much as I hurt to write this . . .
I think he ends up staying with them.

Even if he doesn't, I gotta accept the fact that he won't be wearing a Bulls uniform anytime soon. I don't even think the Bulls would trade Noah straight up for him.

Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

by Option27 on Jun 30, 2007 9:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah
It will be interesting to see if anything will happen with Yi. Milwaukee and Boston were the two teams I did not want him going to if he did not end up at Chicago.

The UC is going to be hopping
next year.  KC Johnson's article is terrific.  I do not understand Milwaukee.  I really wonder if Yi is going to play there.  In the Milwaukee paper yesterday it said Buck management hasn't been able to reach him since the draft.  They haven't been able to schedule a press conference to introduce him.  This is a weird situation.

I also have become much more enthusiastic about Noah.  I really try to be objective knowing how much I love the Bulls.  He definitely is growing on me.  I cannot wait for opening night.

by chgobr on Jul 1, 2007 5:55 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

an interesting fact...
I saw somewhere online (probably at ESPN) that you could take the entire Chinese population of Milwaukee and put them in the Bradley Center...and still have 3000 empty seats.

While it would've been interesting to see him on the Bulls, I find it a little disheartening that Yi's camp has been basing his entire NBA career on endorsements and not skill. The idea of a big market appeals to most NBA players now. Kobe only wants to play for LA, Chi, NY or PHX. LeBron has a clause in his NIKE contract that gives him a kicker if he plays in either NY, Chi, or LA.

Shouldn't the idea be about winning. Playing your best to make your team the best and then, letting the marketing work from there?

by CubFan81 on Jul 1, 2007 6:45 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

there's always Golden State
Bucks can take Wright from the Warriors, and either somebody else or dump a contract on them (warriors have big trade exemption from Richardson deal)

Either way if I were the Bucks I'd tell Yi's people to screw off until they find them a sweet deal.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Jul 1, 2007 3:05 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Depends......
Warriors are trying to send Wright to Minnesota as part of a deal for KG.  If the Wolves don't like Yi as much as Wright, then the trade might not be the best idea for trying to maximize roster value.

Milwaukee is dealing from a position of weakness
I really doubt they will be able to get fair market value for Yi.  Taking him at 6 was not a great move when Milwaukee knew he didn't want to be in Milwaukee.

Another Story..
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=626684

Here is a part I find interesting...

"Rumors persist that the Bucks could trade Yi if his representatives continue to balk at the notion of having him play in Milwaukee.

Philadelphia 76ers general manager Billy King, who tried to make a trade with the Bucks on draft night to land Yi, said he intends to continue to pursue a deal for a big man, likely either Yi or Joakim Noah, whom the Chicago Bulls chose at the No. 9 pick.

"The next step involves teams that drafted guys that I have a high interest in," King told the Wilmington (Del.) News Journal. "I will do everything I can to acquire them."

The 76ers, picking 12th in the opening round, grabbed 6-8 Georgia Tech freshman small forward Thaddeus Young, and they later swapped picks with Miami, getting 7-foot Colorado State power forward Jason Smith with the 20th selection.

But Harris has insisted he did not take Yi in order to trade him.

"We had a lot of discussions with Philadelphia as well as other discussions," Harris said. "At the end of the day, we really felt, instead of moving back and doing some other things, this was the best decision for us."

and another story
Vince Carte signs with the Nets a four year deal for 61.8 mil.  Kapono signs a four year deal with the Raptors for 24 mil.  Today is turning into an interesting day.

Noah vs. Morrison
Noah seems like this year's Adam Morrison.  A guy who had a lot of success and press in college, who has an outsized personality, and who truly loves the game of basketball.

Unfortunately in both cases those traits got them picked way too high.  I think Morrison will be (is) a bust in the NBA, and Noah will struggle, but I do think the Bulls are the perfect spot for him.

by nateroth on Jul 1, 2007 9:06 PM CDT   0 recs

they both have big hair?
Well I disagree Morrison had a better year before he left and was drafted what 3rd?
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

by joejoeEnglish94bulls4ever on Jul 1, 2007 9:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

an organization desperate
to fill seats and bad scouting (or good scouting from everyone but the Cats) made Morrison the 3rd pick. I'm leaning towards the seat filling considering the big minutes he played despite being awful. The Bulls don't have problems like that.

by Paxson Jackson on Jul 1, 2007 10:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Plus
Morrison may have been drafted too high at #3 but Noah was definitely not drafted too high at #9.

by goldengod on Jul 2, 2007 1:39 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

excellent points
except
1)morrison never won a championship, let alone two
2)Morrison's like 6'7'' and Noah, as he points out, is 6'12''
3)Noah not only plays defense, he excels at it
4)Noah is atheletic and as fast as, if not faster, than Morrison
5)Noah seemingly can't grow a mustache
6)Noah passes.   and passes well
7)Noah rebounds.  and rebounds well.
8)Noah moves well enough to create plays
9)Noah's NOT a catch and pop shooter, which is all that Morrison offers
10)Morrison could never pull off a bowtie and seersucker combo

by chgobr on Jul 2, 2007 12:42 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, we'll see
Glad you are a Noah-backer, you will enjoy his brilliant defense, athleticism, speed, passing ability, rebounding, playmaking, and fashion sense next year.

I really, REALLY don't like to crap on a Bulls player, but put me in the camp of Noah as someone who thrived in the college game but doesn't have the basketball skills to make much of an impact in the NBA.  I hope I'm wrong.

by nateroth on Jul 2, 2007 1:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

he might not
i just thought a comparison to Morrison didn't extend beyond being vocal and ugly.

by CookDing on Jul 2, 2007 3:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Random thought on Eee.
So, I was going through the Hall of Fame probabilities of random "great players" (Dirk Nowitzki and Tracy McGrady, despite being just in their prime, have a lot better chance than you might think), and I noticed that I had forgot that Milwaukee drafted Dirk. Not that "history" necessarily dictates the present, but it would really suck to be the franchise that traded away two International H.O.F.'ers before they even played a game for the team. (obviously, I'm not assuming Eee is going to be a H.O.F.'er, just saying)

Oh, and Greg Oden is already a lock for the Hall. It's amazing how they can make these predictions.

Yes, of course.

Great article
Good to see people getting on his side a little.  I think he's going to be a great addition and if he can play NBA ball, one of the all-time fan favs.  I saw him every time I could this year, and never saw the horrible offensive deficiencies that were being touted.  They're going to run teams ragged!

by California Al on Jul 2, 2007 1:01 AM CDT   0 recs

He can score
Ive been trying to tell you fools the kid isnt a stiff.  He is very skilled.  His signature move is the finger wag after he gets an and 1.  think about it; that means he finishes after contact.  Has a decent low post game and I believe it will get better quickly because of his strong work ethic.

Heard Doug Collins call Jordan a "supremely talented over achiever".  Sounds like an accurate description of Noah as well.

More Evidence that Joakim is swell
tinyurl.com/299cqg

Here are the wonderful SAS hecklers at the draft this year. They show draftees walking away to get out of the place and have guards keeping fans at bay, but Joakim stops and signs autographs for a while, and even interacts with the SAS hecklers. It is funny and touching all at the same time.

Just say no to... Hawes.

I know we not supposed to repeat...
thought in comments, but Great Article.  I love the idea of a high energy back court in Tyrus, Noce, & Noah for sperts in games.

I liked Noah from the begining, and I was shocked all the Noah hate around here.  Im glad to see people coming around to him because is definately going to help the Bulls this year.

I saw it
I really liked Aaron Gray after hearing him speak. I thought he looked like he lost some weight. I think he might be a decent player. Noah I wasn't really impressed with all that much he kinda goes into a daze when he speaks. Yeah the whole '' I hated the Bulls ''thing has gotten very old. I think he needs some good seasoning in the NBA to get the College BS out of him. It looked like alot was comming out at him but he just needs to get to work and be around some more mature people instead of college gator fans. Time to let it go. All and all they seemed wet behind the ears and had some kinda Barry White crap going on like it was smotth jazz hour. One Ben Wallace beat down should take that out of them. I liked Curry he seems pretty humble. Really liked Gray. Joakim just needs to get the college out of him.
