Official 2nd round picks thread.

Aaron Gray and JamesOn Curry.

I have little to say about either. Gray is a big oaf (and that can be good) and JamesOn seems like a taller Jannero Pargo. I expect the college basketball fiends out there to fill in the rest.

Gray replaces Sweets, JamesOn may be the Duhon replacement, although they'd still need a 'pure' pg for emergencies. I guess that could be Andre Barrett.

But alot can change in summer league. Another Linton Johnson III can sweep us off our feet again! The Bulls do need guys to take up roster spots so both of these guys could stick around.

I will only say that last night I declared JamesOn's nickname to be 'the promise'.

(Plus I think it's too soon to refer to him as 'Curry')

I like one of the picks
Gray figures to be great value for a second-round pick. He can play 12 good minutes a night for the next 6-8 years. JamesOn Curry was hindered by Oklahoma State's terrible point guard the last two years, but I don't see him becoming an effective off guard in the NBA.

'combo'
can he play point at all?

Even if not, can he at least shoot?

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Jun 29, 2007 12:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He played point a lot at Oklahoma State
once Little John Lucas graduated and Byron Eaton and Terrell Harris proved inadequate to the task. It didn't play to Curry's strengths. He was susceptible to ball pressure and had trouble setting up the offense. His natural inclination is to score. He's a good shooter and not a bad ball-handler when operating in space or making a quick move off the dribble. When he had to think about things and try and get his teammates involved he looked like a talented player playing out of position. At his size, I don't think his natural position will work for him in the NBA.

He's
supposed to have really long arms, which made Paxson think he could play the 2.

by Scotter on Jun 29, 2007 1:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Team defense
really slipped at Oklahoma State when Eddie Sutton fell off the wagon and Sean began taking on a more prominent coaching role. It's certainly possible that Curry has latent defensive ability that has not manifested itself as of yet.

by Hoopinion on Jun 29, 2007 1:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I hear Curry is a great passer
and slasher. Something KH and BG don't do real well at. We really don't have a point guard that creates and dishes well. I think this is why Paxson made the pick and also maybe because he might be moving one of the two starting guards. I hope it's Kirk.
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

by joejoeEnglish94bulls4ever on Jun 29, 2007 12:31 PM CDT   0 recs

I think his game
is much more like BG's than Kirk's.
"They had me do a psychology test and I asked Coach Skiles if that affected his coaching. He laughed and said, `No way.'" (Joakim Noah)

he's a second round pick
and a scorer.  does that sound like Hinrich to you?  Or maybe a poor man's BG?
And with the 9th pick the Bulls select...

Funny.
I was actually disappointed Adam Haluska got drafted. After the latest I had read, I figured he didn't have much of a shot at an NBA career, and I at least wanted to see him in a (summer league) Bulls jersey. Oh well. Obviously, New Orleans disagreed with everyone else.

For the Bulls Summer league, I'd like to see:
Kyle Visser
Dominic James
Russell Carter
Ron Lewis
Ivan Radenovich

Yeah, yeah. They're all names I now. But I think they all have as much of a legitimate chance to make the team.

Yes, of course.

by tyger1147 on Jun 29, 2007 12:32 PM CDT   0 recs

I was dissapointed
Marc Gasol got drafted. But that was just based on needing something to 'root for' during the 2nd round.

I think the Lakers read sam smith
and knew the Bulls were going to take him.
And with the 9th pick the Bulls select...

Re: Bulls Summer League
Dominic James made the smart decision and pulled his name from the NBA Draft about a week ago.

As a Marquette fan, I saw Gray play a bunch of times (twice live, and several other times on TV).  I like the pick for a 2nd rounder, as I think he can give the Bulls a couple minutes per game of a decent post option, especially if Skiles wants to slow the game down a bit.  He's not very athletic, and most rebounds he grabs are the ones the ones that come to him (in other words,  he's not going to be leaping to grab the ball off the rim).  I wouldn't characterize him as a 'lazy' player, per se, but his feet aren't very quick for help defense.

I would've
loved to get Marc Gasol.

by bu11s on Jun 29, 2007 1:30 PM CDT   0 recs

What's great about gasol
This isnt pau it's his overweight non athletic brother. Wouldn't have minded him on the roster but for us to speculate on 2nd rounders who won't crack skiles rotation until next year at best is ludicris.

by Blacknight23 on Jun 29, 2007 2:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i wanted marc
to try and prompt gasol to wanna come here...long shot but with a 2nd round its worth

by milesgmsu on Jun 29, 2007 2:58 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I can tell you
one thing, He's better than Aaron Gray.

by bu11s on Jun 29, 2007 5:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Don't expect too much from the second round
Like most second rounders, they'd be lucky to get to a next contract. If either Gray or Curry could provide some useful minutes, then Paxson would have done his job. He lucked out with Duhon but don't expect lightning to strike twice.

Ali Traore
Im in love with this guy because I dont know much about him, but anyone think theres a chance he plays this summer or will he just play in europe?

LOL
Rasheed Wallace likes to comment about guys' butts. -"Them butt holes got tighter and TIGHTER."

2nd Rounders
I think Curry can take Thabo's place on the roster. The Bulls need a 3rd guard in that 3 gurd formation of theirs. Duhon's ineffective but Thabo can fit right in. Curry can provide some minutes as a "4th choice guard" until he can start playing point.

I'm jumping for joy over getting Gray. He's a potential first rounder and did well in the Orlando Pre-draft. I think we can play him behind Wallace for a year or two before he hits the big time for us.

Although I'm a bit pissed off that we didn't get Nichols. He really dropped in the draft can can provide us some off the bench shooting like what Noc does for us.

Paxson shares your
Gray excitement.
"We are intrigued by him because he is so big."
"I think we're a team that needs size on the front line."
"Let's face it. He's not the most athletic guy."

by Paxson Jackson on Jun 30, 2007 8:34 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

he's a blob of a man.
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

The 15% body fat is a little troubling
http://www.draftexpress.com/measurements.php?year=2007&sort2=DESC&draft=0&sort=7

Hopefully they'll get him on the anti-Sweetney conditioning program.

I love you Ben, you almost make me forget about...tacos.

There is a chef at the berto.
More organic food and Veggies for mr. whats his name again? Aaron...........Gray. Ok and less flame broiled BK whoppers. If Eddy Curry can shed the weight Mr. Gray can too. Sweetney is just.....big boned. He really can't stop eatting nobody knows why.
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

big boned
my ass.
Right now I would trust Pax with my life. :-)

yeah
but what is average % of body fat for a 7 footer?

Sweets
Sweets makes no sense. How can a big man from flippin Georgetown end up as far down on the Bulls rotation as he does? 9th pick too...

Least Gray can do is to take his or Allen's roster spot behind Big Ben. At least that's an improvement.

Although I am worried about how thin we are going to be at point and especially small forward. Point's not as bad, we got Gordon, Kirk and Thabo, if Curry needs time we can afford that, even if we send away Duhon.

The forward position, beyond Noc and to some extent Griffin we are mighty thin if Noc leaves

by blackmage71 on Jun 30, 2007 11:15 PM CDT   0 recs

i think
Noc might get traded to portland but im not sure who we might get in return? Josh McRoberts ???

by eross226 on Jun 30, 2007 11:52 PM CDT   0 recs

Let's Fleece Isaiah again
I need this clear. Is Noc moving or not? Because what Pax's gonna do to his contract will have a lot to do with what we can and should do in terms of trades and free agents.

Noc's key to us in terms of the SF position behind Luol. We kinda fixed our PG problem with JamesOn Curry. We got a backup for Wallace and we have a replacement for Brown if he leavs with Noah.

We just don't have cover for Deng if Noc leaves. We also don't have a low post but one problem at a time alright?

I suggest we lock Noc in for another season and try for a straight trade with New York to get Nichols. He can proveide some off the bench shooting for us like Noc used to do. Maybe we get to fleece Isaiah again... lol
