What we post here tonight will determine the future of the team!  ;)

I'm pumped - I love drafts (even the long NFL draft).  Except for the Stephen A. aspect of draft coverage, but I suppose without him it would be so perfect I might die or something.

Good luck, everyone!

Man, ESPN's draft coverage looks like crap in HD.

by Mike Aparicio on Jun 28, 2007 6:09 PM CDT reply actions

Most of the players are looking sharp
This is an interesting draft and I want it to start

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:09 PM CDT reply actions

I think
Stephen A Smith will explode before it starts. I don't think he uses a mic either.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:11 PM CDT up reply actions

How can the Bucks
draft Yi!?

He don't wanna go there, they'll be going through hell with the Chinese govt. Plus they have Charlie Villanueva and Bogut already. It don't make sense to me at all

Yi and us would have been great together

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:11 PM CDT reply actions

I agree
It would be stupid. If he does not end up on the Bulls I will hope that he lands on a team that I don't hate because I want to root for him. Oh my Dick Vitale is on, I saw him at lunch last week.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:13 PM CDT up reply actions

im sorry
are you getting your hearing back yet

by milesgmsu on Jun 29, 2007 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh my god did you see Noah's barf suit?
Stephen A. Smith needs to shut the fuck up! God he's an asscunt.
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

First of all why would Mark Jackson be dissaponted
in the fact the Stephen thinks the opposite? Wow and they have Dickie V.
I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

Goll, they ask these poor guys dumb questions

They're talkin about Yi!
Yi and us would have been great together

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:27 PM CDT reply actions

Yi aka your boy!
I be glad if he came to the Bulls.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:28 PM CDT up reply actions

one would think I was Chinese
cause how badly I want him on our squad. FUCKIN A, if the Bucks ruin things...I'll be sad as fuck
Yi and us would have been great together

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:29 PM CDT up reply actions

wonder what it would have taken
to trade up to 6.  i doubt the bucks would deal with us, but if china doesnt want him there, it could have happened

by lawyeti on Jun 28, 2007 6:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Duhon and 9
The Bucks need a PG. The Bucks could then take the best SF on the board and would give them a hell of a front court. I doubt Yi goes to Milwakee. I think Stern will offer them an All-star game not to take him.

done
but too bad pax loves noah

by lawyeti on Jun 28, 2007 6:35 PM CDT up reply actions

I hope Portland
just does the pick quickly as with Seattle. I don't want to wait long for something I already know will happen.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:29 PM CDT reply actions

That's the worst!
I hate when teams wait the whole time. They already know iit, just pick it!
Yi and us would have been great together

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah they think it makes it all dramatic
but it really doesn't. I was at the MLB Draft and every team took the full time limit even though example my Devil Rays knew they were taking Price but they took forever. DING DING DRAFT STARTING.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions

eh
only 5 min, so at least we have that going for us.

but I love Greg Oden, have for the last 2 years. I wanted him to be a Bull but at least he is not in the Eastern Conference and I don't mind the Trailblazers. Time to order my Oden shirt.

This is it
Andy Katz is reporting that the Celtics and Sonics are discussing a deal that would send Ray Allen to Boston in exchange for the #5 pick, Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Ray Allen
and the Celtics are giving up Wally and Jeff Green (whom theyre picking for Seattle)

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks
if Green goes, that pushes more bigs toward us...

by Freethefro on Jun 28, 2007 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

OK
the draft now begins......

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:42 PM CDT reply actions

Why did Seattle take 5 minutes?
Were they having last minute discussions about who to pick?

by Big D on Jun 28, 2007 6:42 PM CDT reply actions

working the trade aspect
they just traded to 5, they slowed things down to be sure they got their deal done

by lawyeti on Jun 28, 2007 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Here is Ford's skinny on Brewer
"The Bulls would love for Noah to fall to them. If he doesn't, Brewer is a good fit in the Bulls' backcourt. They would prefer to bring Ben Gordon off the bench, and Brewer's defensive intensity would make him a favorite of Scott Skiles."

by LD9 on Jun 28, 2007 6:43 PM CDT reply actions

"Durant's
an extraordinary talent..." and why do I think he looks like jamie foxx?

by CookDing on Jun 28, 2007 6:46 PM CDT reply actions

Wow
I always thought he looked like someone and that one fits pretty well.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd love Brewer
I think he's got a chance to be the third best player in this draft.

Noah?  Yuck.  He can play defense and rebound, but he has absolutely no offensive game -- a worse Tyrus Thomas.

Also, these interviews with the mothers immediately after these kids are drafted are absolutely ridiculous.

by CWSKeith on Jun 28, 2007 6:47 PM CDT reply actions

so
allen's off to Celts and Seattle's taking Green at 5.
First of all, great move.  Secondly, that helps the bulls alot.

by CookDing on Jun 28, 2007 6:48 PM CDT reply actions

Al Horford. Not a surprise for me.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:49 PM CDT up reply actions

The tension for me
with the picks is entirely in regard to Option27's mental health.  I'm hoping the Bulls draft Yi just to spare him the grief.

by Freethefro on Jun 28, 2007 6:49 PM CDT reply actions

oh shit, you got a camera on me?
LOL.

I'm totally freaking out right now pacing until I know where this guy goes. I think 4 and 5 are safe but 6 is what scares the shit outta me. The Bucks or whomever trades up looks like to snag him.

Yi and us would have been great together

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions

so
thoughts on the celtics stupidly taking allen?

by CookDing on Jun 28, 2007 6:52 PM CDT reply actions

and trading away
any potential youth and/or cap relief at least another 2-3 years.

by CookDing on Jun 28, 2007 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions

That's what a star does
Pierce said he wanted veteran help and he got it. All stars have to do is tell the owners and GMs what they want, and they get it.

if you think about it though, Pierce and Allen and Jefferson is a pretty damn good trio. I don't think the Celts will be that bad. Pierce was out a whole lot last year

Yi and us would have been great together

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions

i dont think its that bad
they didn't want the #5 pick. So obviously they felt there was no one they could build a franchrise around, which i agree with

with their roster, they needed a veteran

and while they are not going to win a title with pierce and allan, it will get them in the playoffs, and maybe even a division title. That will appease much of the c's faithful and maybe help get some more season tix

The additon of allan will appease pierce, and it gives a veteran leader on the team. Finally, it cleared a PG spot from their roster, with the 12 or so they had. This will allow them to truly focus on Allan or rondo or whomeveer the PG of the future is

Finally, thye trade an atrocious contract that epxires in 2 years, wally, for ray allan which they get for 3 years so thats almost lateral.

But here's the flipside; i think seattle was foolish. They drafted 2 SF's (or wings or whatever we're calling them these days), and are talking about resinging lewis...A WING. Not onyl will lewis kill their cap space, but somehow the development of durant/green is going to be limited

by milesgmsu on Jun 29, 2007 3:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah
so far I am not really surprised except for the Boston trade, did not see that coming.

by SRQman on Jun 28, 2007 6:53 PM CDT up reply actions

and with their second round pick
the memphis grizzlies select a 3-point shot for mike conley, jr. to take to the nba.

It's already been told

by Option27 on Jun 28, 2007 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Nice move for Boston
Allen, Jefferson, Pierce.  They still need a point guard, though.

by Freethefro on Jun 28, 2007 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

holy shit
as per my previous comment i thought they had like 40 pgs....i thought Allan (tony) played pg....but right now it looks all they have is rajon....wow; thats banking alot on a perennial underacheiver

maybe ATL will send them lue?  haha

by milesgmsu on Jun 29, 2007 3:41 PM CDT up reply actions

It makes sense
for the Bucks to take Noah.  They need toughness, energy, and defense with their frontcourt of Charlie V and Bogut.  Yi and Charlie V might be the bad kind of duplication.  Brewer also makes a lot of sense as a stopper if they think CV can handle things at the 4.

If you still don't take Hawes, there must be something hidden that Pax and Skiles didn't like.

I listened to Pax on Mike North's show yesterday, and you could definitely tell, by the way he commented on each player, that he liked Noah over Hawes. In Pax we trust. He likes his winners, and he got his wish to have both available at 9, so obviously he liked Noah.

Wow they really got heated with the Bulls

I hope for Noah but I expect Hawes.

by joejoeEnglish94bulls4ever on Jun 28, 2007 7:43 PM CDT reply actions

It's pretty simple as this
The Bulls will forever be hampered by getting "Skiles type of players"

Whethere that's a good thing or not, I don't know. But Skiles won't put you in if you ain't gonna hustle and play D. There are only a few players in the NBA that can do it on both ends...Garnett, Kobe, Duncan . . .etc etc. These guys are superstars.

So unless the Bulls ever get one of those dudes, Skiles seems to always go with who will play better D for him. Hence the whole Anti-Duhon movement here

I like this pick
Noah fits Pax's mold of guys from winning programs who work hard. Tyrus wasn't much of an offensive threat going into last season, but he showed some glimpses of greatness towards the end. The Bulls have done a pretty good job developing their young players. There's no reason to believe that with his work ethic, Noah won't also develop some decent offensive skills. There's no guarantee we'll bring back PJ, and Malik Allen isn't getting any better, so Noah should see some decent minutes next season.

by Mike Aparicio on Jun 28, 2007 7:44 PM CDT reply actions

greatness?
are you talking about the one or two succesful moves he made offensively last year?

aka the dunk on scallibrine or that spin move baby hook that he used once maybe twice and then ahd it blocked three times.

I still love Tyrus though.  And hopefully he starts hitting those 12 footers next year and maybe develops one reliable move.

TT
Anyone else think this might foreshadow a trade of TT?  Noah and TT are somewhat similar (athletic, rebounder, defense) w/ offensive limitations, and it seems Tyrus gets a lot of play in trade talks, and may be our most marketable trade asset.  I could see him being moved to bring in a "low-post scorer", though I'm not sure who this said scorer will be at the moment.

I don't think Tyrus has as much offensive limitations as people make it out to be. For one, the form on his shot is not bad at all. I think he'll start making those with more regularity once the nervousness has worn off a bit.

by nas on Jun 28, 2007 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

what a change from last year
last year was a fantastic draft, now for some reason pax has lost his mind. this is a horrible pick. the bulls need a scoring presence inside, hawes should have been the pic. noah will play 5 mins a night, maybe block a shot, get 3 fouls 4 rebounds and sit down. bad bad pick.

by wheatfield mike on Jun 28, 2007 7:47 PM CDT reply actions

We'll have to wait and see
if Hawes can score in the NBA. I think Noah is a superior and player, and he has more experience. Noah fills the need for height; it's not like the Bulls drafted a small forward who would have never seen the court.

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Jun 28, 2007 7:52 PM CDT up reply actions

There's always free agency
And there weren't any other tall options who could score, so why not pick the player who can be useful immediately?

Good Pick
Stephen A. Smith and anyone who thinks that the Bulls get an immediate post contributor in the draft is an idiot.  Picking a young guy at #9 means we're looking 2-3 years down the road before major contribution (ie. Deng / Gordon).  I like an athletic 7'0 ft center, with a 37 inch vertical that loves to stay in the gym.

by EdNealy on Jun 28, 2007 7:50 PM CDT reply actions

There was no low-post option available
A lot the people who hate the pick are missing the point: There is NO legit low-post guy available in this draft other than Greg Oden. Pax just took a low-risk big guy who will be good for a long time.

The low post guy will have to come through a trade or free agency. Hawes was not the answer.

by jai on Jun 28, 2007 7:53 PM CDT reply actions

Thank You!!!
All these guys are developmental at this point.  Pax knows that we're not going to magically fix the low-post option with the 9th pick in the draft.

by EdNealy on Jun 28, 2007 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Exactly
If Pax and Skiles didn't think Hawes would play this year or be able to do what the team needed, then the Bulls would still be without a low-post scorer and would possibly have wasted the pick.  It's the whole argument against drafting for need.

We needed size and therefore needed to pick a big man.  Didn't Noah and Hawes face each other in a workout?  I guess Noah was the better player in that workout.  I preferred Hawes for low post scoring.  But I can't argue with this pick since they faced each other.  Pax saw them head to head and chose Noah.

On a side note, I did love the "Thanks Isiah" sign too.  Hilarious.

HOLD YOUR HORSES, PEOPLE!!!
To those fans who don't get this pick, Hawes was not the answer. He would have played very little next year on a contending team because he doesn't have something he's really good at. At least with Noah, you are getting an exceptional help defender and more athleticism. We already know Duhon's on the block, Noc is likely gone now, and PJ Brown, and management wants Gordon off the bench. That's why his name pops up and you hear a lot about JamesOn Curry, a scorer that will accept coming off the bench.  There's going to be a trade this summer for your coveted MBwcPUaCDT.

Kings' fan reactions to getting Hawes:
Reactions: Kitchen - Not the pick that any fan was hoping Sacramento would make with a number of other guys on the board. No seven footer should ever have to improve his rebounding. Doesn't the term "upside" usually end up meaning "bust."

Ziller - Big, white, and unathletic: Your Sacramento Kings. UGH.

From TrueHoop's draft coverage.

IF...
I think that if we had Noah we would have beaten the Pistons.  I like the pick.

We would have used the #2 pick to get him last year...

The Blazers just screwed the knicks over...  Portland is going to be good.

Randolph blows off a game to go to a strip club in New York.  He'll get eaten alive by the media there.

Perspective on Noah
Don't mistake his ugly shot for a poor offensive game.  His passing ability is right up there with his defense.  He is far from useless in the post and he can finish after contact.  Wait till you see him zoom up and down the court.  He will make TT look like he is standing still.

You are going to LOVE Noah...

From FOX Sports
This is kinda interesting folks
DIME'S TAKE: Don't think for a second that Knicks fans here at the Garden didn't remind everyone that this should have been the New York's pick. Good thing Noah didn't end up in NY. Would have ended up in Page 6 every morning. Spencer Hawes reportedly received a guarantee from the Bulls that they would take him with this pick. So much for guarantees. Noah just doesn't fit the Bulls need right now but he is an NBA ready role player coming onto a team that is set to go deep in the playoffs. We have to think the Bulls go hard after Darko now.

Are we on the verge of a record here?
Nbadraft.net was uber-slow earlier, as was draftexpress.com  I think people have realized that the NFL draft is boring and long, and that the NBA Draft is a crazy rodeo of activity.
Let's finish Zeke off with a diamond in the rough!

by cubbybear on Jun 29, 2007 12:16 AM CDT up reply actions

WTF Portland?
I know Z-Bo's trade value was low but atleast get something for him.  They traded for a player the Knicks were going to buy out.  They gave up 20/10 for Frye and no salary cap space.  Its pretty sad when you get played by Isaiah Thomas.  Atleast get the Knicks draft pick.
"If you're not going to compete, then I'll dominate you." MJ

by Rankdog on Jun 28, 2007 8:48 PM CDT reply actions

noah
is a great pick.
we have lots of assets to make a good trade (read, not similar to NY's zbo trade), we have a nucleus that is young and can guarantee us a complete starting five for the next five years.
Ben Wallace is immediately expendable.
Noah's only weakness on offense is his shot.  Granted, that's a big one but he can dribble, move, has great hands and plays above the rim.
finally, our team can run almost any other team right of the court.

by CookDing on Jun 28, 2007 8:49 PM CDT reply actions

Noah
I disagree that Noah was a good pick. I am not saying that Noah is a bad player but simply am arguing that he was a bad pick for the Bulls. Noah's strengths include athleticism, energy, and enthusiasm. The Bulls are filled with players which already bring athleticism, energy, and anthusiasm. The Bulls last year were a scoring big man away from being in the NBA Finals. The Bulls should have either tried to address that need in the draft or used their pick to bring in a scoring big man. The Bulls should have used this draft to acquire players to propell themselves to the next step and unfortunatley so far they have not.
I also disagree that Big Ben becomes expendable as i can assure you that no one in the NBA is going to take on his enormous contract. The Bulls need to bring in a low post threat but they should not part ways with Luol Deng as he will be the one of the great SFs in the game. The Bulls are one piece away from being one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA.
