Announcement: BlogABull draft party

Alright, I'm going through with this, even if it winds up with me either getting crank-called by PaxJax or stabbed by JoeJoe: The second annual BlogABull draft gettogether is on.

I kid, last year was a lot of fun, and that was with fifteen or so people attending. Site readership has grown a lot since then, so I'm expecting even more this year. Whether that's good or bad I'm not sure...

Location has been designated (unlike last year, this was decided unilaterally by me) as Union Park, which is on the near West Side and actually quite close to the United Center. So we can storm the place after they trade the pick and a future first for Nick Collison. It's a nice place with plenty of TVs, quality drinks, good food menu. May seem like an odd choice to you trendy northsiders out there, but I feel pretty good about it.

Quite easy to get to: Blue Line Racine stop if you're going by train. For the driving, it's close to several of the major expressways and unlike some other neighborhoods there's parking to be had. You all have google maps at your disposal, but if you need help leave a comment and I'm sure there's plenty of direction experts here to help.

Please let me know in the comments or by email if you plan on attending. I'd like some sort of rough estimate before the big night.

In case you needed reminding: Draft is next Thursday (6/28) and coverage (if not picks) starts at 6pm Central.

We'll have to get a post going for those of us
who can't be there.

For some reason, I'm having trouble drumming up interest in the Bulls draft party - Oklahoma division.

last year's
is on youtube. Needless to say you could do better, even in Oklahoma.

wow
I didn't know Matt played the piano.
Right now I would trust Pax with my life. :-)

LOL
Now how could I ever even hope to top that?

Where will I be?
Oh yea...I will be at THE BERTO CENTER ITSELF through work...boo ya

by Othellas Mustache on Jun 22, 2007 10:38 AM CDT up reply actions

So who are you really?
And get those guys to let the Berto Center be open for a draft party.

by KT on Jun 22, 2007 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions

Who am I?
I work at a Chicago TV station that will be there and I've been assigned to work there

by Othellas Mustache on Jun 24, 2007 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I will be
in northern Minnesota but hopefully watching the draft there.

I'm sure all who go will have fun.

Go Bulls!!

Right now I would trust Pax with my life. :-)

New yorkers
Just out of curiosity, how many here are in the nyc area? I am thinking blogabull probably has enough new yorkers to rival whatever draft party you may have in chicago.  We could just go straight to MSG for 15 bucks each and support pax as well as booh whatever dumb move Isiah makes (although his draft choices have turned out nicely lately).

by Sambossanova on Jun 20, 2007 8:03 PM CDT reply actions

I live in New York.
How do you get tickets to get into the Theater?

I was talking with a buddy about catching the draft live, but I couldn't easily locate tickets.  As it turns out, I'm pretty sure I can't make it, but I'd love to know for next year.

That sounds fun.
I was thinking of going to Chicago just for that, but that's just silly.
I'm in Jersey now, but work in NYC. How can we get into MSG for $15? If that's possible, I'm in.
The Future is bright!

Draft at MSG
I went to the draft in 2001--yes, that year--and if I remember correctly they distribute tickets to the public on the day of the event only.  So you may need to be down there around 10 AM or so and wait outside the box office.

Most of the NBA corporate partners get tickets for free, and the number of seats for the fans are pretty limited.  Good luck!

Trendy Northsiders?
C'mon! Don't think I don't know who that comment was aimed at!! :) Are you saying you didn't like the tator tots last year? :)

So, where is this "West Side" you speak of?  I know how to get to the United Center & Midway...

Wish I could be there...
Longtime reader, infrequent poster here, and stationed in Japan (US Navy).  Never been to Union Park, but Moretti's (near UIC) wouldn't be a bad option either, and it is even closer to the UC.  Have fun with the party.

by cliff levingston on Jun 20, 2007 8:53 PM CDT reply actions

Union Park is a pretty hip place, actually.
I went there a couple of times after Saturday games. Lots of i-bankers and marketing people, as I recall. Don't they spin on Thursday nights and weekends?

As anyone can tell if they follow the link, it is owned by the same guys who operate Grand Central, which is about a block fom my place. For the sake of you single guys, I hope the females at UP Thursday are of the same caliber as the ones who frequent GC on weekends.

It's a good pick. I would be there in a heartbeat, but I have to be in D.C. for work.

hmmm...good question on the music
Maybe for an 'event' they'd cut out the music for the sweet sounds of Jay Bilas. the thing will be over by ten anyway...I'll call and ask.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Jun 20, 2007 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Well butter me up and call me biscuit
you're in D.C. right now? That makes two of us.

I would have really liked to go too, dang.

What PaxJax is like outside Blog-A-Bull will unfortunately remain a mystery for me.

Rasheed Wallace likes to comment about guys' butts. -"Them butt holes got tighter and TIGHTER."

They love the Bulls in the District!
DC folk, any interest in finding a local bar here to watch the draft?  Wiz fans are still depressed about how their season ended and we'd have no problem staking out a good table.  I watched it on the big TV at Recessions last year and they let me turn the sound up, even though I was the only one watching. Not the best venue so I'm down for any suggestions, but the suburbs scare me.
Lovabulls of the world, unite!

by Old Skool Sloan on Jun 21, 2007 11:13 AM CDT up reply actions

I'd just like to point out
you won't find Pax at the UC if you storm the place.  He'll be in the Northern Suburbs.  You might run into the marketing guys, and Bill Wirtz.

You know, Bill Wirtz has kept an NHL team out of Milwaukee for years now.  It's nice to see he's doing the same to Chicago.

by KT on Jun 20, 2007 10:45 PM CDT reply actions

Have fun folks
I'll hold it down in the Bay Area (in reality I will probably be in my office working).
