Bulls make promise with #49?

Andy Katz (via Hoopshype)

Oklahoma State junior guard JamesOn Curry will stay in the NBA draft and not return for his senior season. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Curry is under the impression that he is being selected in the second round by Chicago at No. 49. But, when contacted over the weekend, a member of the Bulls' personnel department said that was simply not true.

A promise for a late second-round pick would be rare, considering that a number of scenarios could occur in front of a team that may make upholding such a guarantee tough to deliver.

Quick info from his ESPN profile:

Positives: Big time scorer. Excellent slasher to the basket. Good shooter with legit NBA three point range. Good at penetrating and dishing to open teammates. Flies up and down the floor. Long arms allow him to play bigger than he is.

Negatives: Undersized two guard. Thin frail body. Turnover prone, can play out of control. Poor shot selection at times. Doesn't give a great effort on the defensive end. Very inconsistent.

I assume NCAA-philes know a lot more, considering he played in a big-time conference.

I actually go to OkState
so probably see more of Curry than anyone else.  He can definitely shoot - in fact, the ESPN profile is pretty accurate on him, but I'd be surprised if he could even make the team.  He's been saying he only stays in for a guaranteed first round pick - not that people can't change their mind or anything, but a second round pick doesn't make much sense to me.  I'm hoping he pulls out from the NCAA side of things, obviously.

Don't Think He's Guaranteed But...
It doesn't surprise me that people mention him with that #49 pick.  Something is gonna go down with our PG rotation, whether Kirk gets traded in a big package or Duhon leaves in a smaller, we're gonna need someone to step into the rotation, IMO.
Just going by who we worked out, if we move Duhon, then I definitely saw Curry as one the those potential 2nd round picks.  The other guy I can see us going for in that slot is DJ Strawberry.
I guess it just depends on what type of devlopmental PG we're looking for.  Offensive minded then it would be Curry, defensive minded it would be Strawberry.

OT: Anyone heard anything about Jeff Green staying or going?

Curry
as a 4th guard would be good. He should be able to contribute 6-10 a night.

Green
is meeting with JT3 this morning, and is suppose to have a presser this afternoon according to what I heard on ESPN radio last night. I think he stays unless he has a promise at 5 from the Celtics.

Good deal.
Great line ESPN: Earlier, freshman Roy Hibbert decided to remain at Georgetown for his senior season.
Yes, of course.

lets be logical about this
this is the bulls front office. meaning, a smart front office.

No front office should ever make promises. It doens't do anything. If the players' there, your promise means nothing, and it only binds you. Plus, if you break said promise, it makes your org look bad.

The only reason ever to promise is to try and keep a guy from going back to school, but that type of person does not sound like they fit the mold of bulls basketball.

Furthermore, JamesOn was not a proven winner in college, another strike against him in the mold of bulls b-ball

I think good at basketball
trumps "proven winner."

my early money on a second round standout...
Herbert Hill...

Chad Ford's take

nbadraft.net's take

draftexpress.com's take

and his senior year per game numbers at Providence:

GMS: 31
MIN:  32.0
PTS:  18.1
RBD:  8.8
AST:  1.4
TO:    2.9
A/T:  1/2
STL:  1.0
BLK:  2.9
PF:    2.9
FG%: .640
FT%: .602

Apparently the main knock on Hill is that he was a late bloomer whoes numbers rose dramatically his senior year. Seems like the type of 2nd round pick that at least has a shot at being successful in the league...

That's ridiculous
to make a promise at the number 49 pick.
