It appears Tyrus may play more of a role against Detroit...

As many here have stated, myself included, Tyrus should be a bigger factor against Detroit than he was against Miami because of match-up advantages.

Skiles appears to agree in principle with that conclusion, though he still expresses reservations about TT's "reliability."

Here are some relevant quotes:

''It's possible,'' coach Scott Skiles said, when asked if he might use Thomas more against the Pistons. ''Frankly, Tyrus has to be more reliable. It's that simple.

''I know everybody wants to see him go out and dunk the ball and block a shot. But we have a team game, and every person is predicated on what the other people are doing, much like Detroit. We have to know that everybody we put on the floor knows exactly what we're supposed to be doing, exactly where they're supposed to be and exactly what's going on. That's the long answer. The short answer is: Yes, I can see him being more of a factor in this series, and we have this period of time to get him ready for that.''

''He's been pretty good around the rim against them,'' Skiles said. ''They've got a lot of length, a great shot-blocking team, and he's been able to slide behind them on occasion. He's caught some lob-and-dunks. He's been able to operate a little against them, and against some other teams he hasn't. They know that, too, at this point. It's been a team he's been OK against.''

I tried adding it to the diary, but for some reason the link wouldn't go active when I did.

Thought you might find this interesting as well..
given your love of the three guard lineup.

"Can the Bulls, the Suns or even the Warriors win the championship with a perimeter-based offense? Because they can't settle their offense by playing through a big man in the post, the Bulls instead bring in an extra guard to calm things down.

"When we're having turnover trouble and we look a little out of sorts, it has helped us to put the three point guards out there -- put Ben (Gordon) and (Chris) Duhon and Kirk out there together,'' Skiles said. "I will say it has not been as helpful this year as it's been the last couple of years. We've been able to play bigger a little bit more this year.

"Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't,'' added Skiles of small-ball lineups throughout the league. "I think it gets a lot of credit in some games when it clearly works, and then in games when people go small and it doesn't work, people tend to forget about it.''

More on Tyrus and
his prospects for playing time.

This time from Sam Smith:

"I was watching the game with some friends, and we noticed that Tyrus Thomas didn't play at all in Game 4 against the Heat. Any idea why? He must have ticked off Skiles if Malik Allen got so much playing time while Thomas rode the pine. --Adam, Chicago

I didn't ask Skiles, but it seemed obvious in Game 3 that he was scared to death. Every time he touched the ball he couldn't get rid of it fast enough. He is a kid, after all, and I think the atmosphere and pressure was way too much for him. I thought Skiles handled it beautifully. He didn't say much, but didn't put him back in so as not to embarrass him. Sefolosha could play because he's played pro ball before in Europe. I don't expect to see Thomas much on the road in the playoffs, but he feeds off the crowd and I think he'll play in the home playoff games and more against Detroit because their big guys are slow and he can sneak in behind the zone on them and dunk."

Whoa.
Sorry Matt, I just noticed that you put this in your main post.

I just didn't see it. I must have been on this diary page. You can take it down.

no apologies necessary
It must've gone up while I was writing the post. I was just pointing it out as a funny coincidence.
