Game thread # 79 Bulls vs. New York Knicks

[Thanks to reader chgobr for tonight's game preview. -Matt]

My disdain towards this team is well documented.  It would be my pleasure to help push the Knicks toward the brink of elimination.  Assuming the Bulls win, NJ has the tie-breaker verses the Knicks even if NJ loses all 5 games left and the Knicks win the remaining 4.  Assuming the Bulls win, one more Orlando win or Knick loss and New York will be eliminated.

But more important is our opportunity for the 7-11 pick pending these last few games.  I know others may not agree, but for me this is one of the most important games of the year.  I want to bury the Knicks tonight, but will take a win any way we can get it.  I want to be smiling 10 PM tonight.

PREDICTION
Knicks will lose the rest of their games (I'm really goin' out on a limb here) and
the bulls will win out.
then with the knicks pick we will select Hibbert from georgetown
FYI: this blogger does not take kindly to criticism and will dismantle your retort by way of my remarkable mental acuity, which is unrivaled at blogabull.

I'll go one step further
Hibbert will average 12ppg.
Watch your head, Tyrus!

Way to be on top of things
Matt didn't even get to put out another lame request for a game preview because he was too busy (or lazy) to write one up.

by paxson43 on Apr 10, 2007 12:02 AM CDT   0 recs

it's both
but anyway, yes, I appreciate the early preview. I'm just going through the motions getting ready for playoff game threads.

Well docummented disdain
Dude, look up the definitions for words, all you do is bitch about the Bulls trading Curry. That's jealousy, not disdain. If there's any disdain it's coming from everyone annoyed at your post player comments.

by Paxson Jackson on Apr 10, 2007 8:32 AM CDT   0 recs

A diary doesn't feel the same
until PaxJax has done his share to try and make himself feel better by denigrating others.

I sure hope he doesn't make any cracks at me, because I really don't know how much more I can take before I just break down.

I love this site.
We get a free scolding for not meeting Paxson Jackson's standards in English. I felt jealous when I read Sam's article on Curry today. I used to be somewhat of a Curry guy. Wow Curry and Chandler reuniting in NY would really make me Jealous but only if they were winning.

by joejoeEnglish94bulls4ever on Apr 10, 2007 12:57 PM CDT   0 recs

winning
I think that's the problem. All this praise for Curry and his team sucks with him as 'the man'. He could get gobs of points and 4 rebounds here too, no?

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Apr 10, 2007 1:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

winning
Agreed, and I like both those guys. They still have the same glaring problems that prevent them from being top tier players (which would probably equal more wins), and I'm glad those flaws no longer hurt the Bulls. Curry's test refusal is more than enough reason to never second guess the trade.

I wasn't taking issue with language as much as the second-guessing.

by Paxson Jackson on Apr 10, 2007 1:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

'like'
I like them too, and you're right: Curry's heart test should always be a big flashing disclaimer when discussing that trade.

(We've been over this here already, I know. Blame Sam?)

I think they're both above-average players, but saying that Krause's plan would've worked if they held on to each guy is just  not true. The plan wasn't an only-offense and only-defense guy each, it was sold as drafting Shaq(Curry) and Garnett(Chandler). Unfortunately I believed in that plan, heh.

Re: 'standards in English'
I don't think they're very high here, yet many find a way to fail miserably.

I don't get it, personally. Whether one is truly an idiot or not, if your comments are littered with typos and mispellings people will think you're an idiot and (rightfully) won't care what you have to say.

I think the new commenting system may help ::wink:: (no, the 'new system' isn't having me approve all comments. If only!)

Hmmmm
mispelling?  (sorry, but it's too good to pass up the misspelling of misspelling)

I should probably suck up a lot for the rest of the season, huh?

I should really get that firefox spellcheck plugin. That's one word I frequently misssssssspell, along with 'recommend' (seem to instictively use two c's)

POINT IS: there's a difference between minor errors and a comment where if the person just read it over once they'd realize it made no freaking sense.

It's funny how his standards are "high,"
when he can't correctly spell "documents." It's a pretty hard word, I know.

it's spelled "Traylor."

Ever heard of homonyms? Just askin'.
Mine was more of a mistake in my head(trailer's still spelled right). What's your explanation?

More on "disdain"
There are a million reasons to dislike (or have disdain for) the Knicks, their fans, New York, the East Coast, etc., etc. etc. The Eddy Curry trade isn't one of them. I really can't see how that one swung in New York's favor.

NOTE TO ALL CONCERNED: This should have been my original comment in this diary. I should have realized how easily words throw you guys off.

Well said!
We all are on the same side.  We love the Bulls and hate the Knicks.  Tonight - hopefully we will have a chance to celebrate with each other and share the joy.
Please beat the Knicks

by chgobr on Apr 10, 2007 1:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I am really looking forward to tonight's game.
The crowds are typically very vociferous during Knicks games, although the fact that they play on Tuesday night may dampen spirits somewhat.

by 1958ChiTown on Apr 10, 2007 2:12 PM CDT   0 recs

My secret reason for hating the Knicks:
Living in NYC I get to read a lot of Thomas' comments, and the one that I see ad nauseum - especially whenever he's criticized - is something akin to "This may be bad, but it's nothing compared to what I experienced growing up in Chicago."

OK.  We all (most of us I'm assuming) grew up in Chicago.  We all know it can, at times, get a little nasty.

But God almighty will this guy please please stop ripping the city?  Pisses me off to no end.

Thank you for allowing me to devenom myself; it was slowly poisoning my soul.

by Freethefro on Apr 10, 2007 4:41 PM CDT   0 recs

I don't think he's ripping the city
I wouldn't say (and, thankfully, wouldn't know) that the impoverished areas of Chicago are better than similar areas in New York, Detroit, L.A., Oakland, etc.

He is using it to deflect criticism though, which would get me pretty peeved if I was a Knicks fan. That's out of the Dusty Baker playbook.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Apr 10, 2007 4:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

You know, you're right
and I don't claim that what Isaiah says is false.  What I resent is the fact that New Yorkers tend to think of Chicago as one big industrial hole, and that Zeke is playing up on those stereotypes.  Find some other way to be evasive!  That's all I'm saying.

The frustrating thing - and I think a lot of the misdirected ire for D.Wade comes from a similar source - is that as Chicagoans we generally want to embrace our own. It's always worse when you're brother sticks it in your eye than some stranger.

by Freethefro on Apr 10, 2007 4:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thomas is my main reason for hating the Knicks.
I thought he was a punk when he played for Detroit. Freezing out Jordan during the all star game and not being man enough to shake the Bulls hands after we beat then on the way to our first championship.

by boerwinkle on Apr 10, 2007 5:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thomas, John Starks and Anthony Mason
We need a diary on why we hate the Knicks.  Thomas, however will be leading the pack.

by chgobr on Apr 11, 2007 6:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So,
that funny guy, Seth, at the Knicks Blog, Posting and Toasting, has decided to make humorous description about the Bulls' roster. Not much of it has to do with how they play, but more funny statements. This one made me laugh, because I could totally see Colt .44 doing this:
#44 Adrian Griffin- Though he seems rather quiet and well-mannered to the unsuspecting viewer, Adrian has been known to very subtly taunt opposing players with words so calculated and cruel that tears are sometimes shed.

They may be the offspring of Lucifer, but some those Knicks fans can tell some good ones.

Funny as they are I almost feel like bad for them. John Starks! Oh wait I don't. Look at this one.......(They want a brawl)

''id need one to happen''
''that derek harper/AJ english bout was the shit.''

Well it was Jo Jo English not AJ English.

I don't feel
especially good about this game tonight. Maybe it's the crappy winter storm warning we are in.

Hope Kirk's toe doesn't bother him too much tonight and BW and TT are able to play like we need them to.

GO Bulls!!!

Watching Zach Johnson beat Tiger Woods was a thing of beauty.

I have to write a paper on sports marketing
and am wondering if anyone has any good book suggestions.

I think I'm going to focus on the way the leagues market themselves and how marketing is done in sports (not deals personal players have, but things the teams and leagues do).

The one source I have so far is Mark Cuban's blog.  Need a 3-4 books even if they just have one good quote in them.

Thanks.

I've written a few papers based on basketball,
but all my stuff is sociology.  We've had a bunch of marketing students in various classes, so I don't know if that might be helpful or not?  Anyway, the ones I've done have dealt with rationality versus spectacle, using George Ritzer's work looking at how carefully the NBA has to plan events in order to keep the sense of magic that draws fans in.

by wjb1492 on Apr 10, 2007 7:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Can you give me a link
and/or titles of stuff by Ritzer?

My major resource was his book
Enchanting a Disenchanted World - he has a chapter on Disneyland where he looks at how they are selling a show while hiding the practicalities of day to day operations that might spoil the show for consumers (like trash collection, seeing the characters out of character, etc.), but at the same time the whole point of the show is to make money.  I used that idea to look at All-Star weekend and how the NBA and players highlight the aspects of basketball that sell - lots of offense, no real defense, and so forth.

Not sure if that is helpful to you.  I know he's done other stuff on consumerism, but I haven't read all of his other stuff.

Washington has lost four in a row
and gone 2-8 over the last ten.  They face the: Nets (going on right now), Heat, Hawks, Bulls, and Magic.  Every team needs to win except for the Hawks.

New Jersey has: Wizards (right now), Cavs, Knicks, Pacers, Knicks, and Bulls.

Tough schedule assuming the Knicks and Pacers are still trying.  The last game against Chi-Town might be a gimme assuming we've already locked up the #2 seed and rest key players (which I hope happens).

Weirder things have happened, so I won't be surprised if the Wizards fall to #7.

They share the Lottery %
They split the chances evenly.  But there is a coin flip to determine order in the case that neither team gets a top-three pick.  Head-to-head and other tiebreakers never enter into it.
