'Nuff Said

It's very rare that I look at anything basketball related on a Monday - before I read what Sam Smith has to say to say, but yet another more memorable moment of the season was on tape delay. Enjoy it before the NBA takes it down. The Butler poster just went in the discount bin if you ask me. I'll fill up this diary with a blind item of sorts:

What blogger thinks the Bulls lack killer instinct and grit? Dear reader, you'd be surprised at the source!

tape delay
heh.  I guess nobody watched it, or matt was just too let down by the Cavs loss to put a blog on it. Oh well, since the cavs lost we're back to square one again.

I actually saw more of the Atlanta game
Than the Cleveland one. Sorry about the lack of a fresh game thread, I was in transit.

But at least you all know it wasn't Bulls-related depression. I wasn't nearly as discouraged after the Cleveland game as some here were (or so it seemed)

Tyrus also had a fantastic block
of Smith on a dunk attempt.  But I think Smith got him once, too.

Tyrus
On NBA.com, Tyrus garnered the Dunk of the Night (not the one shown here - his leftly slam on a breakaway), the Block of the Night, and the Haeieiar Play of the Day (this one).

In Pax we trust, eh?  Just need a few more Knicks losses so he has more to work with.

Awesome. I hope he keeps working hard
and developing his game. He has the potential to be a special player.

However, his development may be hampered by the return of Nocioni. I read today in the Sun-Times that TT's minutes will likely decline when Noc comes back.

I am torn about the return of Nocioni. On the one hand, I do think he helps the Bulls' offense. In particular, I think he frees up the guards because opponents can't leave him open on screens to go double team. I also love Noce's attitude and approach to the game.

On the other hand, Tyrus is really coming along and I would hate to disrupt his rhythm so late in the season. Not to mention, he is my favorite player and has been since draft day (OK, I'll be honest, as a Bulls season ticket holder and LSU alum, drafting someone like Tyrus was essentially a dream scenario.)

By the way, check out the April 1 Top 10 on
NBA.com.

Not one, not two, but THREE plays by Tyrus in the Top 10.

I am actually starting to lose track of his major highlights this season:

The dunk over Ilgauskus (sp?)

The dunk over Josh Smith

The block of Josh Smith

The dunk over Jefferson in the Celtics game

The reverse alley-oop in the Celtics game

The game winner against the Nuggets

The big tip dunk against the Heat in the season opener.

The alley-oop late in the game against Detroit last week.

And, of course, my personal favorite, the nasty swat and dunk sequence against the Hornets. That was ridiculous.

Am I missing any?

That's a pretty decent list for a rookie.

But, no, seriously, I'd rather have Aldridge.

Whoops
Matt, how did that get through the no-comparing-rookies-for-5-seasons filter?

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Apr 2, 2007 12:00 PM CDT up reply actions

I actually agree, as a matter of logic, that
you can't make conclusions about most roookies after a single season.

I just can't help but be excited by some of the plays I've seen this season.

In order to be a truly great player, Tyrus must continue to develop his post game, his ball handling, and his jumper. He doesn't need a three-point shot, but a nice six to ten foot jumper would open up his offense tremendously. He also needs to bulk up somewhat, though I don't think he will ever be huge, nor should he be.

Whether or not he develops is solely a function of his dedication, hard work, and focus.

Just my (admittedly biased) opinion.

I thought it was a
serious point about despite all of Tyrus' highlights and contributions I'd (as in you) prefer Aldridge as a Bull. No biggie, my annoying alarm goes off with that guy's name.

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Apr 2, 2007 12:09 PM CDT up reply actions

I almost hope so,
but Peej's contributions (mostly being the tallest player on the roster) are tough to replace. It's a tough one to figure out. I assume Skiles is going to sit Tyrus though.

Kemp
never played good defense. He was just a highlight that couldn't shoot the rock well. I hope Tyrus learns how to put the ball on the floor and blow past a guy.

by kingj41 on Apr 2, 2007 12:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I think he will he's only 19 right?
I can't remember what Kemp's D was like I just remember that 1996 NBA finals he had developed his game and was becoming one of the top power forward behind Malone. His outside shot was more of what I was thinking in reguards to Tyrus devolping and becoming more of  an offensive threat. Yeah if he could develop an inside move like Shaq's little hook off the back board that couldn't hurt. Love to see he and Deng add some beef in the summer. Maybe they should hang with the Benny's in the weight room more.

Tyrus v. Aldridge
I know debating Tyrus vs. Aldridge seems like the rational thing to do, and it very well may be...but I think the debate will take place with a player to be named.

In a sense, Aldridge could have somewhat filled that low post scoring prescence, but had Paxson drafted him, then we would no longer look for a player like that.  Paxson may have thought, "This guy is okay, I imagine someone better will come along."

So although Player X will never be compared to Aldridge publically, because it's much easier to compare him with Tyrus (which isn't as correct to do since they're such different players), maybe Player X should be.

by Othellas Mustache on Apr 2, 2007 2:47 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah but...
Do we need player X?  Yep, I just posed that question.. given TT's improved play as of late and the fact that Wallace is showing that he deserves all the minutes he gets...

Imagine
Sefolosha, Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, Big Ben, and....KG(!!!!!!) after ben gordon gave us a ten point lead. WHAT TEAM IS GONNA GET THROUGH THAT!!!
im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

by piccolomair on Apr 2, 2007 6:04 PM CDT reply actions

I should probably say
Ben Gordon with the aid of Luol Deng... :)

I cannot get enough of TTs dunks.
Thank you PaxJax.  TT finished despite significant contact.  The amount of his improvement from the start of the season to now is amazing.  At one point I thought Aldridge was the better player but I am having second thoughts.  If TT continues to improve we may have a truly special player here.
