Game Thread #81: Bulls at Washington Wizards

[Thanks to bullshooter for getting things started today -Matt]

The Wiz trot out a skeleton crew due to a devastating amount of injuries.  Everyone should understand the necessity of a win for the Bulls, two more wins secures the second seed and a veritable yellow brick road to the finals.  But let's not get ahead ourselves, I see a blowout, but any win is a win, Hollinger rankings be damned.

Thanks for
doing the game thread for today.

Gotta say I'm already sick of this ass kissing they are doing for the 2nd game for today.

Bulls need a win today so I hope they come out with fire and never let up.

GO BULLS!!!

Tyrus Thomas is a human highlight reel.

pregame sucked
I was expecting a little more about a game with some pretty big implications.  Did they give it more than 20 seconds?  I like the Mavericks and Cuban and they'd be my pick to win it if the Bulls aren't there, but I also wouldn't be shocked if they lost in the second round to Houston.  Same for SA and Phx.  The West Champ isn't going to waltz to a championship.

is it me
or is Wallace open for the lob pass all the time?  Can he jump at all?

jump? yes.
catch? not really.

11-0
that's a skunk, right?  Can we call it now?

by bullshooter on Apr 15, 2007 12:08 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

11-0...yuck
should be at least 13-0...

hollinger rankings had me hooked at first btu they're starting to piss me off....we beat the cats by 19 and lose points and the pistons lose to the raps by 3 and gain points?....and he still hasnt adaquetely explained why the spurs are haead of the mavd with the stats he shows on his ranking page (if oeff and DEff is so importnat, why not put it up there)

When cleveland lost to the Celts their score went up, too.

does washington
know that the game started? Someone needs to wake them up. maybe 11-0 helps

Am I the only getting focked by Comcast?
There have been innumerable service interruptions during the game so far. The screen just goes black.

Irritating. This is a huge game.

that last posession was pure Gordon: Fall down, push the ball through someones legs to a teammate, get the ball back and drain a three.

no reason to take out PJ and replace him with Tyrus.  Until now of course...

That play by Thomas was awesome.
Showed why he's a good shot blocker and not just a leaper. Went out to that guy like he was going to jump, but then didn't bit on the pump fake. So when that player went to the side, TT was still right there to make the guy look retarded.

by tyger1147 on Apr 15, 2007 12:24 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't
understand why a team can't play hard for the entire game without another team complaining. No one is stopping you from playing defense.
on top of that, you can get into bad habits if you play like that in the 4th.
the bulls should play hard the entire game and not worry about the other teams feelings.

its a legit question
duhon has been a model man in the NBA excpet for maybe 4 days of oddities.....yet they have brought it up in the last 3 or 4 telecasts....no mention of Caron Butler spending his formative years in juvenile detenion....no mention of any of the other arrests on the wiz...hell not even the drug and alachol problems skiles had to voercome...it just seems to me that we dont nee dto be promoting the iller aspects of the sport when its not a big deal

Hollinger Rankings
Pistons' rating only went up .01 after the loss to the Raptors...  Raptors have a much better record than Bobcats, therefore with the Raptors win, D's strength of schedule gets better.

by Boney on Apr 15, 2007 1:02 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

correction...it went up by .1 not .01
and it doesnt matter....a tram beats another team by 19 thats a good game shouldnt lose points...unless hollinger holds the bulls in such high esteem that he beleive shte bulls should be beating the cats by 30+

by milesgmsu on Apr 15, 2007 1:04 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

actually it went up by .001.

It was still a clean play
Ref respect or not.

by Paxson Jackson on Apr 15, 2007 1:44 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It was really a non-play.
Ben just lost the grip on the ball.

The "defense" had nothing to do with the missed dunk.

Couldn't tell from the replay if he got him with the body.

by 1958ChiTown on Apr 15, 2007 1:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

no it wasnt
he didnt touch ball at all....he got under hsi body while in the air...clear foul...

by milesgmsu on Apr 15, 2007 1:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What was clean about it?
The only contact that was made was with the body.  The ball came out of Ben's hands as a result of the impact.  I don't see anything clean about it.  I mean, it wasn't a dirty play, but it was a foul.

by PGHcager on Apr 15, 2007 1:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'd defend my position on it further,
but I don't have instant replay capabilities today.

I can't believe the whole season is going to come
down to a road game against New Jersey. The last damn game of the year.

Probably the biggest regular season game the franchise has played in a decade. Getting the two seed is huge. I think it's the difference between a probable Eastern Conference Finals berth and potential first round elimination.

The odd thing is, if NJ loses to us, they play us in the playoffs. If they beat us, they play Cleveland. I wonder how that affects them, if it does.

by 1958ChiTown on Apr 15, 2007 1:57 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

if jersey wins
they may play the raptors...if they lose they play us....im sure theyll be trying their hardest....hopefully cleveland can cough one up....50 wins would be amzing but so would resting the starters....

not if NJ wins their next two
and the wiz lose out.  Then it doesn't matter for NJ, but the wiz have to lose to IN in their last game.

by bullshooter on Apr 15, 2007 2:00 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

good point
lets hope for that and a cleveland loss....wouldnt it be a site to see to see NJ sitting their starters while our guys have to go balls to the wall

Assuming for a second
That dere exists a duplicate team of da Bulls out dere, let's call dem da Clone-a-Bulls, I would much rather play Cleveland than the clone-a-Bulls.

Bill: Glen, what do you think?
Glen: Definitely da Cavaliers, Bill.  However, because da Bulls, da Clone-a-Bulls and da Bears would inhabit such a small geographical area, the power of their sheer perfection would likely destroy the world.
Bill: That's probably true, Glen.  What do you think would happen if the Clone-a-Bulls took on the real Bulls?
Glen: I don't know Bill.  Is Skiles cloned too?
Bill: Yeah, Glen.
Glen: da Bulls 100, da Clone-a-Bulls 18.  Perfection cannot be duplicated.
Bill: Fair enough.
Glen: Yeah, Bill.  But the clone-a-Bulls wouldn't complain about running up the score to give the fans Big Macs, because even clones have class, Bill.

Watch your head, Tyrus!

Phili
is going to playing without Andre Iguodala (back), Kyle Korver (wrist) and Kevin Ollie (right eye bruise) when they play Cleveland on Tuesday. It's going to come down to the Bulls winning on Wednesday (my birthday) to secure that second seed. And what a birthday gift that will be if and when they do.

one more caveat on the 7th seed
if the Magic win out they will be tied at 40-42 with the nets and wiz.  I don't know who gets what in that scenario, and the Magic could very well win out.

Hi guys...
New here.  Who hold the tie breaker if we tie Cleveland?  And who's pissed that we blew that game against them two weeks ago?

by Chad on Apr 15, 2007 2:34 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

CHAD!
The Bulls actually hold the tiebreaker. If you take a look at both the Bulls' and Cavs' records, they're equal for the most part(Cavs have 2 games left, Bulls only have 1). The Bulls owning the tiebreaker is the reason that they actually have the 2 seed right now.

Glad to have you on board
