Game Thread #80: Bulls vs. Charlotte Bobcats

Charlotte is one of those teams that forgot to tank, although not only are they banged up but their coach has already been preemptively fired by Jay Mariotti's favorite executive.

The Bobcats have won 6 out of their last 8 games, although against nobody particularly good or healthy. There is reason to believe they're currently better than their record, because Emeka Okafor is healthy after missing a significant portion of the the season. However Gerald Wallace may be out, which would be nice.

I'm trying to come up with more reasons to believe this is a 'trap' game....in reality the Bulls should win handily, it's not like they don't know the ramifications of losing out on the #2 seed.

for my buddy firemikelupica
I'd say the Knicks giving up on Trevor Ariza was worse than the Bulls dealing J.R. Smith, and that's just on a single-talent evaluation, not considering the cap ramifications (and suck ramifications) of taking Steve Francis.

(Sorry, I'm just still mad at that blog. The dude won't quit and say "you're right I don't follow the Bulls that closely, I just think Skiles is mean". Instead he's challenging me on the fact that getting rid of JYD allowed the Bulls to sign Wallace. argh)

Since you're a Knicks fan, I'll forgive you if you don't understand how to use the salary cap.

2nd seed ramifications
I wouldn't put it past the Bulls to drop this game... they tend to have brainfarts against bad teams from time to time.  Agreed Matt, they should know the ramifications of missing the two spot but they had an opportunity to basically lock it up a few weeks ago in Cleveland but blew it.

Good news is BenGo tends to play well against Charlotte, presumably because he wants to stick it to his UConn buddy Emeka.

latently homoerotic comment
I know it's the college way, but why would Gordon wear a T-Shirt under his jersey. The man is jacked and has that sweet archangel tatoo on his arm.

I'm just gonna quit talking now..

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Apr 13, 2007 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Team rule?
I think the t-shirt under the b-ball jersey is one of the ugliest thing in sports. Even on skinny ass dudes. It's just retarded. Even being skinny, Kevin Durant looked way better than Roy Hibbert (nevermind the obvious basketball skill differences). At least wear a sleeveless shirt.

(no homoeroticism in the previous statement)

Continuing their mutual offensive explosion
NJ leads NY by a whopping 18-15 margin at the end of the first.  Both are shooting below .400

And Toronto's shooting .318 - why did we have to get them on a hot night?

Key Games
Detroit vs. Toronto: Public Enemy #1
New York vs. New Jersey: Public Laughing stock #1
Washington vs. Atlanta: 1st round bye.
Milwaukee vs. Boston Either: You top 4 lucky bastards you.
San Antonio vs. Minnesota: Draft Pick
Denver vs. New Orl/OKC: Cause' the A.I/Melo combo is kind of nice
Indiana vs.  Miami: Orlando would be far better to watch in the play offs
Charlotte vs. Chicago: We're the motherf**kin Bulls
Utah vs. Dallas: D. Williams have made College Basketball interesting for me.
Golden State vs Sacramento:  Draft pick or GS= better 1st round blowout.
Portland vs. LA Clippers: Draft Pick
LA Lakers vs. Phoenix: Cause' watching KB24 score 50 is just amazing!

With the playoffs, we seem to be getting a lot of hockey highlights in the top 10.  I'm not a big fan, so I frequently have trouble appreciating the Top-10-ness of it all.

Reminds me of a story
I saw Troy Brouwer(Blackhawk) once, a few days before Christmas, in the Washington Dulles airport. He was carrying like 8 hockey sticks in a bundle. I didn't know who he was, but just saw his name on his traveling bag. This guy behind me in line asked him if he played for the NHL, and he goes "I got the call at around 2 in the morning[it was around 8AM], and told me I was being brought up. So here I am." The guy, me, and a couple of other people who were listening said congratulations.

He looked really nervous. And really tall.

NJ knows how to not "run up the score"
Play your starters in the 4th, but only hit 5/16 (complete with a 24 second shot clock violation or two) and let the Knicks outscore you for the quarter.

At least they pulled the game out, gave NY another L and remained alive to swap 6/7 with Washington.  Not too impressed with old Jersey these days, though.

by wjb1492 on Apr 13, 2007 8:56 PM CDT reply actions

bad feeling about the next NJ-NY game
NJ plays Indiana the night before.  If NJ wins they might not have anything to play for because they might be locked into their spot.  Also means they won't have any reason to play hard against the bulls two nights later.

Back from UC.
Standard ass-whipping of inferior opponent.

The rotation in the second half was a bit befuddling. After a very active, good first half, Tyrus didn't play at all. Deng didn't play a whole lot. Noce played quite a bit, as did Malik. Resting people for the playoffs? Trying to get as many people as possible into the flow?

Noce is having a really difficult time re-acclimating. Don't know if he'll be ready for the playoffs at all.

The Tyrus dunk in the first half was sweet. It looked like he elevated at the side if the lane, went straight up, then reached over two guys to dunk it.

Thought it was hilarious that we scored a three to get the Big Macs. Crowd was appreciative.

Next home game = PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!

Tyrus blocking Noch
In the first half it appeared that Tyrus blocked Noch from getting to the basket. It occurred on a fast break and looked like Tyrus was trying to get Noch to give him the ball. It was either a mistake or a selfish play but that may have been what upset Skiles.

by Incognito on Apr 14, 2007 10:12 AM CDT reply actions

Mistake
We've witnessed Nocioni running into his own teammates for 3 seasons now, and you can't give Thomas the benefit of the doubt?

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Apr 14, 2007 5:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I can
But Skiles didn't play him in the second half so maybe he can't or maybe he just wanted to get the young mans mind right.
