Game Thread #51: Bulls at Golden State Warriors

[Tonight's game preview comes from much-maligned commenter Colossus -Matt]

dis·ap·point·ment - noun.  The act of disappointing.  One that disappoints.  What happens when the Chicago Bulls go out West.

Examples: Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, Isiah Thomas.

Yep, that sums up yet another forgettable road trip out West thus far.  Maybe the fortunes of our beloved Bulls will change with a trip to consistently shitty Golden State Warriors.  The Bulls continued their consistent poor play by sucking royally against the Sacramento Kings last night.......did you catch the pun?

The Bulls haven't beaten the Warriors at Oracle Arena since January 30, 1998.  Will this losing streak be broken?  Not if the Bulls decide to shoot .333 (34-102) from the field, including 4-18 in 3's, and send the opposing team to the charity line 26 times.  The only somewhat good thing that occured in Thursday night's loss was the man that's allergic to offense, Griffin, only seeing 2 minutes of play and the worst big man on our team, Allen, just netting 7 minutes but being somewhat productive during that time (2-3 FG, 3 RBS, 1 BLK) but committed 2 fouls.

If the Bulls plan on beating the recently revamped but still sucking Warriors tonight, it'll most likely have to be by taking advantage of Golden State's 46.1 opponent FG% and with contributions from slumping core members, Hinrich, Gordon, and Deng.  The Warriors currently out-shoot Chicago with 45.7% vs. 45.6%.  Yep, not much at all, but with the way the Bulls have been playing, who knows what the fuck might just happen?

Blogging with the Enemy: Golden State of Mind.  Unlike certain other basketball blogs (not going to name names) out there, it appears people actually visit the site and make comments (I'm sure not nearly as deep and thoughtful as ours).

FanPosts are user-created posts from the BlogABull community, and are to be treated as the opinions and views of that particular user, not that of the blogger or blog community as a whole.

forget to mention
the game is on espn so you can stay up and watch this one, too.

I was going to mention that
but didn't see a good place to put it and figured I would just let Matt mention it later if he was desperate enough to use mine.

West Coast game
Am I the only one that sometimes take naps after work if the game is a late start during the week.  The Kings have absolutely no appeal to me, and I was expecting an ugly game that would just send me to bed angry and annoyed.  I was right.

Bye the way, excellent start to your game preview.

Thanks, but I wish I could go back and edit the "synonyms" to include Jerry Krause.

Good preview, but it's missing something
Everyone knows that a game preview here on Blog-a-Bull is incomplete unless it has the words "Duhon" and "sucks" together in a sentence.

I'm into the disappointment theme
I think I'm into a Bull's induced depression.  I really looked forward to this season and the joy seems to be sucked out of me by this team.  They lack the excitement of a surprise win on the road.  I also thought Thabo and TT could develop into something special.  At least I hoped they could provide a spark.  Now it looks like the only thing special we are going to get is a spoiled jerk in TT.  I also have problems staying up for the late games.  Missing the game last night appears to be a blessing.  Gasol interests me but not if we have to give up Gordon or Deng.

I don't think I'd miss him as much as I would have say, five games ago...

Matt
If you end up using this, even though I doubt I fall under the "fine" category, could you please add Jerry Krause to the examples in the beginning and the time/channel of the game somewhere.

Merci.

Another
Clunker seems imminent. Can this team shoot above 35% for fuck's sake. If they don't win another on this trip reality will sink in: the team is mediocre at best and its time for a big trade. Every good game they've had has been matched almost one-for-one with an atrocious shit bomb like the one they laid last night. This team has been together enough to know better. They simply have to stop sucking or changes will be made.

by vlad001 on Feb 9, 2007 6:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Atrocious shit bomb
was a compliment, my bad.

by vlad001 on Feb 9, 2007 6:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

sort of agree
The whole the bulls have a young core thing is getting old...they have all palyed together for three years and have made the playoffs already.  They aren't rookies or even sophomores anymore.  If they dont start performing consistently or if they arent going to be able to then a trade should be made even if it means breaking up the precious full of potential core.

Miami-Cleveland up first...
This one is tough - it would be better for the Bulls if Cleveland loses, but I just can't bring myself to hope that Miami wins.

by sue369 on Feb 9, 2007 6:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd rather see
The Cavs lose because they're a lame duck team and I REALLY want to see James get traded or not re-sign. So the more they lose the better.

It's obvious he's going nowhere with Cleveland because they're an old, slow, overpaid team with coaching and managment issues.

James Posey is a malicious scumbag and I hope he breaks both legs.

Nah, I never pull for an injury
Now a bad game, that I can get on board with.

And this game has made quite clear that my humongous and intense dislike of all things related to the Miami Heat has grown to the point that I can indeed pull for a Cavs win (but only in this one, limited instance!)

about last night
Could it be that the Bulls missed Noc's shooting last night? I'm not the biggest fan of Noc, but I saw so many wide open, passed up shots (Duhon and even Gordon although he looked scared) that I found myself wishing for some no-conscience Nocioni shot selection.

by james@lifeinthecell on Feb 9, 2007 7:14 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

That must stop
Those passed-up shots are a killer to Skiles' motion offense. How many times have we seen Duhon pass up an open look, and either overdribble or throw a careless pass for a turnover? Not to mention, the bigs are EXPECTING shots in those spots - more dribbling just leads to them being out of position for a rebound, or getting called for 3-second violations.

This is a JUMP SHOOTING OFFENSE. If you're afraid to take a wide open shot, then sit down already.

I hate the phrase "must win"... but I'm compelled to say this ranks right up there. They don't just need a decent performance, they need a WIN - otherwise, I fear that it, coupled with a likely blowout in Phoenix on Sunday, could be a real blow to whatever confidence this club has left.

Every team is going to play us the same way
for the rest of the season.

They'll mix in a lot of zone, hope our jumpers don't fall (and we usually have one lull per game), and then run in transition off of our misses.

What a killer loss
I don't want to overreact to one loss, but when you've got Ben Wallace and PJ Brown taking big shots in the last two minutes of a game, that's a sign that you need a low-post scorer desperately.  This road trip is making it clear how badly we need Gasol, because we're struggling to beat bad West teams.  We've got a winning record because we've fattened up on terrible East teams, but that doesn't mean we're that good.

by Big D on Feb 10, 2007 12:26 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

or you could just...
... develop tt's hands and low post skills and put him in with the offensive three guard set.

that's the last thing we need is mortgaging the organization just so we can put an injury prone, crybabyin' Gasol on the bench.

thanks nittany!  hopefully Pax does too. gasol is not the answer.

still, in the post game conference, coach skiles said they were going for the lob dunk.  how quickly the way the time outs were coming I'd like to have seen skiles alternate big ben and tt between timeouts on for defensive and offensive sets.  put the speedy three guard line up and deng and tt going for the quick lob dunk, and when the other team calls time out, put big ben in for the defensive set.

hopefully tt can practice the lob dunk with his teammates for the dunk contest.

The last two loses prove...
That this Bulls team will likely be one and done in the playoffs yet again. If the organization wants to wait one more year, than fine. Past that, they have to do something about the inside scoring now!

They gave the game away tonight. 4 trips down the court in overtime, and coming away with nothing? Unacceptable!

100% agree!!!
chicago core=mediocre players! one and done in the playoff, highly possible! Bulls need a trade. We will

I see your point, especially in the wake of a
terrible loss like this, but I am not quite ready to agree with you.

Ben Gordon has been off his game during this road trip. I think he'll play better for the most part.

Noce is out. That hurts our scoring.

We play extremely well at home. If we scure home court for the first round, I believe we will advance.

I am not giving up on this team yet.

Wallace
The good thing about this road trip is that Wallace seems to be playing more like 60 million dollar Wallace instead of undersized center with no energy.

He has had very solid classic Wallace games these past three or four games.

As for the rest of the team: I really don't know if Gordon, Deng, Hinrich are a bunch of overachievers or underachievers.  It seems like they never all play consistently well for long stretches of games.    I think Deng is the one that needs to step it up the most or else they should trade him.  Gordon is also key, but when hes not making the outside shot or he is in foul trouble, Deng has to step it up make some moves and drive...

If he hits the weight room and transforms into a quick 4 instead of a big 3 that gets beaten off the dribble by artest, he would be much more dangerous.

by Sambossanova on Feb 10, 2007 1:14 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

We are too dependent on the - -
perimeter each game.  We do well if everyone is on their game.  However, that is not reality.  We need another consistent threat down low that can compensate when Deng, Gordon or Hinrich are off.  This is still very depressing.  I really wanted them to win this one.

by milesgmsu on Feb 10, 2007 1:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That degree is meaningless
Obama has more buzz and hype than any other candidate in probably the past 218 years.

In terms in sweeping generalizations, a woman would most likely stand a better chance than a black man, but I don't see any woman, not even Hillary, that can top Obama for likeability and electability.  Plus, who are exactly can the GOP counter with?  McCain is becoming closer and closer to just how far-right Bush is.  Guliani is merely mooching off 9/11.  IIRC, before 9/11 he was hated in NYC and there were posters all over the city depicting him as a nazi for his countless civil liberty violations.

But him vs. Obama means they couldn't touch Obama on personal ethics.  Last I checked, Obama did cheat on his wife with a staff member, nor divorce one because he wanted to be with another woman that he was cheating on behind her back.

by milesgmsu on Feb 10, 2007 3:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The electoral college is an absolute joke
Senators should not be counted in electoral college, including them skews the population and makes it non-proportional.  Each state should only have electoral votes for its members of the House.

Including the Senators gives an unfair advantage to the person that wins the most states regardless of each states' population.  This is why Bush won in 2000 and 2004.  Out of the 538 electoral votes, it ended up being Bush: 271, Gore: 266, Undecided: 1 (Washington, DC did so in protest of not having a voting member in Congress).  Take away the 100 Senators and that would make it 438.  Now, Bush won 30 states and Gore won 20 (plus Washington, DC but it doens't have any Senators and isn't a state).  Since Bush had 271 and won 30 states, take away 60 (30 x 2 = 60) and that would leave him with 211.  Now, Gore had 266 and won 20 states, so take away 40 (20 x 2 = 40), and he'd be left with 226.

The new totals are:
Gore: 226
Bush: 211

Hmmmmm, look who won now?  Including the Senators makes the Electoral College complete bullshit and not a true reflection of actual population.  The same would have happend in 2004.

like the campus bookstore or something. sheesh.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Feb 10, 2007 8:26 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

But the Man owns the bookstore!!!!
Here's something Bulls related to discuss:

Looks like passing up on Roy was a mistake.  Yep, Ty is still young and raw, but drafting Roy would have made getting Gasol a lot easier.  He's on track to win Rookie of the Year and would allow us to give up Gordon to get Gasol.  Hell, Memphis would probably be more inclined to take Roy than Goron, Ty, or Deng because of he has two extra years left on his rookie contract and is showing a ceiling as high as any of them.  Plus, he's far more productive than Ty (yes, I know Ty has far less play time and is on a better, more mature team and that affects his stats).

Now, if we had wanted Roy instead of Ty, it's likely that Portland wouldn't have done the trade of Aldridge for Ty and Krap-ya since Portland wanted to take Roy with the pick they got from Boston (I bet Danny feels like an absolute moron for giving that pick up for fucking Telfair).  Assuming it didn't happen, we wouldn't have Krap-ya on our team and that would leave us with: Allen, Noc, Deng, Brown, and Wallace as our big men.  Now since we went G with our first pick, we wouldn't have needed to take Sefolosha with our second pick, but we still could have swapped picks with Philly and sent them cash.  Big men taken after #13 (Philly's pick) were: Simmons, Pecherov, Boone, and Freeland (that's all PF's and C's taken the rest of the first-round).

Not many great guys to pick from.  All of them are a year or two away.  Freeland and Pecherov are still in Europe and signed two-year deals prior to this season.  Boone is seeing very limited play  and managing to shoot well from the field when he does see action though (yes, I know, a small sample size).  Simmons is seeing more action and putting up worse numbers than Boone (yes, again a small sample size for a young and raw player).

The point being, had the Bulls taken Roy and then one of those four big men with the other pick, it would make getting Gasol far easier.  I'm just typing a bunch of rubbish, so I'll stop now....

"all the girls loved BJ." -sue369

by Colossus on Feb 10, 2007 10:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I was going to do a diary about this
but I think Pax maxed out the value of those two picks if Thabo and Tyrus develop.  If they don't get off the bench, they won't develop...  But as far as drafting Roy, I was thinking that too, but you don't get any value in that second pick.  Now if we could have traded the pick for somebody, that's a different story, and also a much bigger speculation.

by bullshooter on Feb 11, 2007 1:20 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We still could have drafted Thabo
and put him at SF.  We just couldn't have taken another PG or SG with it unless it was for a draft night trade.

if it sucks or not, its still what we have.  I don't like it either, but to say someones going to win, be presented with a clear argument why its not going to happen, and to respond with "the structure of the system is a joke" is not an adaquete response.

That being said, this is my last post in deference to matt's wishes

A quick note on this weekend...
After staying up late to watch the bulls lose this game, I went to sleep and woke up early. Still thinking about the game.
I had plans to go Snowboarding with some friends.
During a good time snowboarding, on the way down from the mountain, I slid on an ice patch, fell backwards, and hit my head against the ice. My snowboard went flying for about 30yards and I started walking towards one of my friends. I fell and lost conciousness. Got rushed to the Hospital, and I had a Mild concussion. I got my Cat Scanned, I seem to be fine. My memory was shot. I was asking the same questions about the accident and the day as it progressed over and over and over. Then finally, when I started coming to, I asked my Girlfriend, "Did the Bulls really lose last night or was I dreaming?" She said yes, they lost... Then I said. "did the lose by two when Gordon missed the game winnning three shooting an airball?" She says yes, that I was really pissed off and went straigh to sleep...
-
WHY?! I asked my self, why, of all things that I could have forgotten, why does my mind want to remember how the Bulls lost?! Is this sick?! Yes!
-
Currently, I'm still regaining my energy and memory. I've been reading this Blog and can't believe it. I was even mad at myself for starting Al Harrington on my Fantasy Team. - I injured my head, neck, right shoulder, and lower hip towards the back... In the Hospital, I made my brother go get me the paper so I could read the scores...
-
This team is gonna kill me!

Just heard
Bulls interested in Mike Miller, Gasol for P.J, Deng, Noch, Sweets. Might go down.

miller
why dont they just trade for brian cardinal too so we can have the whitest team in all the elague...

Aren't miller and gordon more similair than deng/noc and miller, id rather give up gordon instead of deng in that case.

by Sambossanova on Feb 11, 2007 12:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Eh
Miller is a shooter, but bigger.  Much like Noce, without defense.
Deng, he's good!!!!!!!!!

Yeah,
I think they have him starting at SF.

Why
do you bother going to Hoopshype. Bad site. Plus it doesn't say anything about Miller.

by chris44 on Feb 11, 2007 12:37 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Adding Miller doesn't mean shit,
including him in a deal has been mentioned here countless times before.  If anything, adding Cardinal seems more realistic since he makes a decent amount, has three more years left, and puts up far less production than Miller.

I'd like Miller instead of Cardinal, but it just doesn't seem as probable under the deal mentioned at hoopshype that you stole and claimed for your own.
