Open Game Thread #29: Bulls vs Orlando Magic

The feel-good Boylan era keeps going. Or gets destroyed by Dwight Howard. I guess we'll see.

1pm CST start, on WGN. That means we don't even get the brief lucidity in a broadcast where Stacy King craps on Nocioni's shot selection. That's all I have to look forward to nowadays.

look for Ben Gordon to add
a spark off the bench.
Fire Boylan!

Ya know...
...if he ends up averaging 25 ppg off the bench, I don't give a damn. Also, his minutes haven't dropped in the two games, so if that keeps up, does it really matter?

Why isn't Wayne Larrivee banished?
Dude left he Bears play by play booth to do Packer games.  That's treason in sports.

He should be banished from Chicago broadcasting.

Pippen doesn't sound like a guy that likes Ben Wallace's contract in the Sam Smith articles from today.

So does this mean if someone goes down on Rush street late tonight they'll run into Du, and Noah and all the game celebrating or drinking away their sorrows?

Unbelievable.
I completely forgot this game was at 1 PM. I thought it was tonight.

any good reason
why Joe Smith has 6 shots already?

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 31, 2007 1:26 PM CST   0 recs

He's a starter.
Starters shoot more than bench players. Plus, he's a veteran. There's an obligation to play him so there's an obligation for him to shoot a bunch.

Good offensive quarter.
Luol is developing a legit post game. He needs to finish in the lane, though.

Smith is playing well.

That being said, the defensive execution was pretty horrendous.

drives me nuts because its correctible.

He did it again and it resulted in an open three for Orlando when one of the guards had to rotate over to cover Lewis, who had been abandoned by TT.

Just stay focused, Tyrus.

poor Gordon
he foolishly thinks by playing well it'll mean a starters job. No, it causes some weak causal relationship between quality of play and coming off the bench.

coming home and into the game late
I notice that:
  1. the Bulls are winning
  2. the Bulls seem to be having fun
  3. the Bulls bench is outscoring the other bench yet AGAIN today
  4. BG is playing well (HOW many games in a row now?)
So I would say that Boylan has a plan that seems to be, at least right now, working.
Whatever we may like or dislike about the line ups or the subs, I really can't remember the Bulls looking like this all season for this many games in a row.

As long as they keep winning, I say THANK YOU Jim Boylan.

Is it spring training yet?

by Bluelou on Dec 31, 2007 2:13 PM CST   0 recs

BG playing it exactly like he should
shooting, not worrying about getting anybody else involved or distributing or anything, just shooting.  7-10, 1 rebound, no assists, but more importantly no TO's.  He's played more minutes than anybody.

fun to watch again. I couldn't watch em anymore with Skiles. I like how Boylan is doing more offensive sets and going into the post more. Doing a gig tonight at Uncommon Ground 3800 North Clark. Maybe some Bulls will be there. Starts at 10pm.

Ben Gordon is an awesome sixth man.
I wish they could keep Hinrich and Gordon and bring in Arenas. It would have to be one of the best back-court rotations in all of basketball (maybe not, I dunno).
Let us prepare for glory! --Michael Redd

by tyger1147 on Dec 31, 2007 2:18 PM CST   0 recs

ok, Gordon's been tricked
into being good again. So now we can start him, right? Is it worth playing Duhon so much to keep this illusion of the bench making Gordon better at basketball?

At least make a trade for a 'big guard' to play those guaranteed 12 minutes a game.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 31, 2007 2:30 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

it's a shame your not watching this game

What does it matter if BG doesn't play the first 6 minutes of each half.  If it focuses him for the remaining 18 minutes there is no loss.
