Open Game Thread #28: Bulls at New York Knicks

[Thanks again to bullshooter. Like a Noc defensive rotation, better late than never, right? -Matt]

Unless Matt is working feverishly elsewhere, here's a game thread.  Curry has been benched and David Lee is the starter.  Jamal Crawford is out with a finger.  I look for BG to continue to emerge from early season doldrums and the Bulls to take advantage of the Knicks general dysfunction.  Also, it'd be nice if the Bulls could get a lead in the second half so that some of the guys could get a more extended look.

About time!
Have I ever told anyone that I hate Isiah and the Knicks?

by boerwinkle on Dec 30, 2007 11:12 AM CST   0 recs

looks like
"Matt" Duhon showed up for this one.

Last two possessions show the difference between
Bulls from last year to this year.

Knicks get all the loose balls and Bulls make the stupid passes and fouls.

by boerwinkle on Dec 30, 2007 11:23 AM CST   0 recs

When does Joe Smith get yanked
for stupid turnovers?  And what the hell is Aaron Gray doing as the 1st big off the bench.

by Scotter on Dec 30, 2007 11:31 AM CST   0 recs

It actually
lets Wallace matchup with David Lee.  It's an interesting idea.

by bullshooter on Dec 30, 2007 11:37 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

If Tyrus just had 2 turnovers, 2 fouls
and done nothing else in 7 minutes, he'd never see the floor in the 2nd half.  Will Gray play in the 2nd half?

by Scotter on Dec 30, 2007 11:50 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

Will Gray play in the 2nd half?
Considering he's the biggest guy on the bench and can match up against Curry...
...he'll play
Is it spring training yet?

by Bluelou on Dec 30, 2007 11:58 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

That isn't a good enough reason.
Curry isn't the 2nd coming of Wilt.  And even if he was, Gray couldn't doing anything about.  Gray's big body did a whole lot of good agaisnt Bynum.

by Scotter on Dec 30, 2007 12:04 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

You may forget
Bynum can jump and has more talent than......uh....Gheorge Muresan.

who was TT going to matchup against?
Randolph?  Curry?  David Lee?  All of those are bad matchups for TT.  Orlando presents much better matchups for TT.  Let's see how much time he gets tomorrow night.  It's not like TT consistently puts up big numbers.  He's too hit or miss right now for a team trying to find its way.

who would match up with Thomas?
I think he's better than a 'matchup' player.

how was that a foul on Gray?

by bullshooter on Dec 30, 2007 11:40 AM CST   0 recs

What's with all the traveling calls?
Are all the bigs playing this sloppy or are the refs just being really picking today?  I can only get an audio feed on this (visiting people without tv) and can't really judge the calls.

Looks like Noah is in now.

by cranscape on Dec 30, 2007 11:41 AM CST   0 recs

Noc is in.
Throwing up shots right and left.  I guess our shooting percentage is going to drop.  :)

by cranscape on Dec 30, 2007 11:41 AM CST   0 recs

Bulls are passing well,
but are getting absolutely killed on the offensive boards.

If they could just keep the Knicks from getting second chance points, they can easily blow the Knicks out. They run terrible offensive sets and look a step slow in comparison to the Bulls players ( and benching Nocioni-aka Count Chuck-Alot wouldn't hurt either ).

I hate Violett

They're playing well
I just hate seeing NBA players make those bad passes.

by gobulls1124 on Dec 30, 2007 11:49 AM CST   0 recs

you can see the difference between gray and noah
doesn't look like noah is strong enough to keep randolph out of the post where gray could keep curry out.

start?

Core playing well.

Du started
But Gordon came in pretty quick.

Du started
hit a couple of threes.  BG came in at about 6 min I think.

Noc and Wallace
Having Noc and Wallace out there at the same time doesn't seem to be working.  We need a big in there to get rebounds and that isn't Noc.

by cranscape on Dec 30, 2007 12:10 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

He played well couple of games
but not lately. When core is playing good-he's not.

Good point.
I hope we blow them out in third and see our Tyrus "Run" Thomas :-)

I guess
but he seems like when he's out there so long it gives him more excuse to take posessions off. Maybe they're just throwing him a bone, more minutes = more rebounds, after all :)

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 30, 2007 12:59 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Shooter is right, we are getting
hammered on the boards.

With Noah in for Smith
Maybe his added size will help stop the Knicks second chance points.

by RogersPark Kris on Dec 30, 2007 12:35 PM CST   0 recs

It's amazing
how relaxed Kniks bench looks.Everyone is smiling and joking. You may think that they have a record 20-7 and sure gonna win today.

Really nice quarter.
Wallace playing well.

And Noah getting some significant minutes. Boylan demonstrating that he will stay with a rookie if the rookie plays well.

The Knicks look horrible.
We would be losing if we played against a better team.  Too many jump shots.  Thank God they are falling.  I hope we don't let them back into the game.

by chgobr on Dec 30, 2007 12:52 PM CST   0 recs

Dude, come on.
You have no way of knowing whether we would be losing to another team.

You are correct
I retract that statement.

by chgobr on Dec 30, 2007 12:59 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

i wouldn't retract it
the Bulls are beating an awful team, it doesn't teach us anything about their level. barely beating the Bucks at home doesn't either.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 30, 2007 1:01 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

We're beating NY badly.
By nearly 20.

That tells me we are playing well.

by RogersPark Kris on Dec 30, 2007 12:53 PM CST   0 recs

Red's adoration of Aaron Gray
is soooooo pathetic. just emblamatic of a try-hardy team. At least when Celtics fans cheer for Scalabrine they're joking.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 30, 2007 12:57 PM CST   0 recs

It's clear that you hate Gray, Matt
What are you gonna do if Gray turns out to be a bonifide NBA player?

if he's an NBA player
then he doesn't need to get cried for after every travel or foul.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 30, 2007 1:05 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

All they need to do is
play like they were playing last year. That's it!

Holy crap the Knicks are bad
How overweight is Eddy Curry?  It's frightening to think that the man has a heart condition.

by Big D on Dec 30, 2007 1:00 PM CST   0 recs

Eddie's whole offensive game
revolves around shoving his fat ass and backing down  his defender into position where he can just lay it in. He has no real move toward the basket.

by RogersPark Kris on Dec 30, 2007 1:02 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

No need for the
two consecutive TO's, Gordon.

Other than that sequence, though, he is having a great gamr.

Maybe they should sit Wallace for awhile.
They will need him to have some energy tomorrow to defend Howard.

(The thought of Howard being defended for long stretches by Gray or Noah makes me scared-sad.)

a MAN's dunk
that didn't count.
Fire Boylan!

by hscs on Dec 30, 2007 1:10 PM CST   0 recs

I'm not even that upset with Gray playing
over Tyrus in this game, the Knicks have fat dudes to match up with (in theory).

But why Noc keeps getting so much time is more bothersome.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Dec 30, 2007 1:10 PM CST   0 recs

Couldn't agree with you more....
maybe Boylan is playing him a lot in hopps that his foot will flare up...    :-)
