Open Game Thread #28: Bulls at New York Knicks

[Thanks again to bullshooter. Like a Noc defensive rotation, better late than never, right? -Matt]

Unless Matt is working feverishly elsewhere, here's a game thread.  Curry has been benched and David Lee is the starter.  Jamal Crawford is out with a finger.  I look for BG to continue to emerge from early season doldrums and the Bulls to take advantage of the Knicks general dysfunction.  Also, it'd be nice if the Bulls could get a lead in the second half so that some of the guys could get a more extended look.

Last two possessions show the difference between
Bulls from last year to this year.

Knicks get all the loose balls and Bulls make the stupid passes and fouls.

by boerwinkle on Dec 30, 2007 11:23 AM CST reply actions

When does Joe Smith get yanked
for stupid turnovers?  And what the hell is Aaron Gray doing as the 1st big off the bench.

by Scotter on Dec 30, 2007 11:31 AM CST reply actions

It actually
lets Wallace matchup with David Lee.  It's an interesting idea.

If Tyrus just had 2 turnovers, 2 fouls
and done nothing else in 7 minutes, he'd never see the floor in the 2nd half.  Will Gray play in the 2nd half?

by Scotter on Dec 30, 2007 11:50 AM CST up reply actions

Will Gray play in the 2nd half?
Considering he's the biggest guy on the bench and can match up against Curry...
...he'll play
Is it spring training yet?

by Bluelou on Dec 30, 2007 11:58 AM CST up reply actions

That isn't a good enough reason.
Curry isn't the 2nd coming of Wilt.  And even if he was, Gray couldn't doing anything about.  Gray's big body did a whole lot of good agaisnt Bynum.

You may forget
Bynum can jump and has more talent than......uh....Gheorge Muresan.

who was TT going to matchup against?
Randolph?  Curry?  David Lee?  All of those are bad matchups for TT.  Orlando presents much better matchups for TT.  Let's see how much time he gets tomorrow night.  It's not like TT consistently puts up big numbers.  He's too hit or miss right now for a team trying to find its way.

What's with all the traveling calls?
Are all the bigs playing this sloppy or are the refs just being really picking today?  I can only get an audio feed on this (visiting people without tv) and can't really judge the calls.

Looks like Noah is in now.

Bulls are passing well,
but are getting absolutely killed on the offensive boards.

If they could just keep the Knicks from getting second chance points, they can easily blow the Knicks out. They run terrible offensive sets and look a step slow in comparison to the Bulls players ( and benching Nocioni-aka Count Chuck-Alot wouldn't hurt either ).

Changed my blog address check her out
http://sixtitles.blogspot.com/

For whatever reason Matt keeps blocking me here but hey it's his blog.

Anyways before he blocks me again I think the Bulls should try to deal Nocioni assuming they keep playing well and moving the ball like this. I don't think Nocioni has a great basketball IQ and if you could get a scoring 2 with size I think that could do wonders for this team. Seeing as Sefolosha won't set the world on fire offensively and he's looking more like a project. If they can continue to play well then maybe getting a slashing 2 guard who can get to the foul line should be on Paxsons list of things to do.
I really like what Boylan is doing here so far. As much as you guys bash Gray I think you have to be fair because you do have to account for his size which creates some spacing. He also seems to pass well to open shooters. So damn give the guy some props he was second rounder I think this guys a great find by Paxson. When I watched him in the preseason I thought he was going to contribute and give Wallace more chances to play his natural 4 spot where he can wreak havoc on the boards. But yeah the team really needs a slashing guard and of course an inside guy but thats hard to find and I'm not sold on Pau Gasol but who knows. I think they should try to inquire about Magette he would fit in perfectly on the Bulls. He slashes and can knock down the 3 ball. Oh he can also get to the line. Anyways checkout my blog.

You're going to see a lot of Gray tomorrow
the scouting report is to foul Howard, he's a mediocre free throw shooter.  TT might be matched up with Lewis, depending on how Noc does on his first 4 minutes and 8 shots...

if howard shoots like he did yesterday and gray doesn't give him a cheap fouls, I wouldn't be surprised if the bulls pulled out a close one.  Howard played 41 min and was 5-12 from the line.  If BG keeps playing like he is, I like their chances.  In fact, I think BG has a much better shot at the all-star game as a sixth man than he does as a starter.

3 game win streak for the magic.
the game is at home so I think the Bulls have a shot. The key to beating the is to foul Howard and stop Nelson's penetration and the guards have to rotate and stop the three balls. Big Ben needs to rebound. I would think putting Tyrus on Howard at times could give him some problems, well atleast the Tyrus Thomas from last season could have. Where have you gone Tyrus Thomas?

by JoeJoe on Dec 30, 2007 4:05 PM CST up reply actions

Believe Nelson is still out
Carlos Arroyo has been playing starting PG. Played pretty good in their overtime win against the heat the other day. we're gonna have a problem if we double howard a lot, Hedo and Lewis are deadly from the arc

by bullsfaninla on Dec 30, 2007 4:59 PM CST up reply actions

I think the Bulls should use the old Shaq
rule that PJ used to go with. Use the 18 fouls with Tyrus,Noah and Gray and sit on the wings so the Orlando bombers can't get those open looks off a howard double. Like the Patriots do it by taking away what the other team does well. I would think you'll see more of TT and Sefo considering how athletic Orlando is.

Win, just win.

by sue369 on Dec 30, 2007 7:05 PM CST up reply actions

To be fair
Hinrich did play a decent game, it wasnt spectacular but i think its exactly the kind of game you would expect from him, EXCEPT he was still way below his average not only on fg percentage, but points. Remember, Hinrich on average should be scoring somewhere near 16, and with him playing sg while duhon is in, and the way he was shooting in the first quarter, you expect him to surpass that. I think it would be one thing if he never shot the ball again, but that wasnt the case.

Like i said its still a decent game, anytime hinrich is not in foul trouble and is not turnover prown (hell this is true for all players) that is a good thing. Hinrich is getting more aggresive, but hes still not where he was say his rookie or sophmore year. But i think with boylans system (for now) hinrich will be able to get more accustomed to shooting. I am hoping that when we look at his stats at the end of the season, the second half of the season stats will be above his normal careers (at this point im looking forward to something along 17 pts and 8 assists per game. Its no 'second coming of the great white guard' but its good enough to mean something to this team. I also hope hinrich from here on out will show consistency, the last two seasons (including this one) have been a burden, especially when it comes to defending him.

NO...He is not over rated, he is still under rated....i just cant prove that...only hinrich can...

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

Considering he
couldn't play any worse than he was the last few games have been a great improvement. That's all I was saying. His other areas of his game have been good. I'm not worried about his shooting, it will come back.

I was at the game today
A few observations: I sat about 15 feet from the
Bulls bench....

-Bulls management might as well trade Tyrus because the only thing I saw him do today was sing to Cheryl Lyn's "Got To Be Real" and give the other players dap...  might as well trade for someone that might actually get minutes
-Aaron Gray got called for traveling about 3-4 times & the Knicks were stumbling around like fools for most of the game
-BG had his ususal Madison Square Gordon magic
-Kirk had a good game too - say what you will about him but he is very agressive on D
-In the last minute, Duhon was the only starter on the floor, but A-drain was out there for only about ten seconds before he took a crappy shot

Even tho I didn't get to see TT play, I did get to hear the "Fire Isiah" chants MORE than once hahahAa

I wouldn't give up on him yet.
Watching on TV it seemed like the Refs were the only thing keeping the Knicks in the game well besides David Lee and Robbinson. I have seen enough of Violet Palmer why is she a ref. It's not that shes a woman it's just that she don't get it.

Tyrus
I think he must have regressed in practice or maybe just made fun of how much Boylan looks like President Logan from 24.

If you're not sure, here's a comparison:

It's a little freaky, really.

whoa
that is pretty close. And I have fond memories of President Logan, a pinnacle of '24' that they're apparently sliding away from nowadays.
