Notes (updated: Noah-tes) on the preseason opener

KC Johnson (on his blog, how awesome) reports that Joe Smith is doubtful for tomorrow's preseason opener with old man knees. Ben Gordon (ankle) and Thabo Sefolosha (hamstring) get the 'wait and see' label. Justin Cage got waived, so we won't be seeing him either.

KC's more excited to see Joakim Noah anyway, as am I.

Speaking of Noah, brother-site GoldenStateofMind passed along to me this praise of Noah from DraftExpress.com's Jonathan Givony:

I think the Warriors are going to rue the day they passed up on Joakim Noah for Brandan Wright. There is no question in my mind that Noah was the best fit. None at all. I spoke to someone in the Bulls front office this week (just to catch up, not for an article), and he was effusive in his praise of Noah, saying how far ahead he is of other rookies they've had in the past. Not sure if that was a jab at Tyrus Thomas or not, but that's a pretty big compliment considering the type of rookies they've had in the past few years (Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Nocioni come to mind).

Perhaps Givony and Sam Smith have the same rolodex.

The game (which is against the Bucks in LaCrosse, WI) will be on at 7:30 central live on ComcastSportsNet.

And to pass the time idly waiting for tipoff, I made a major update to my links section over the weekend. So go down the right sidebar and check out the new sites. Email me with any mistakes, omissions, or should-be omissions.

In closing...remember the tenets of preseason.

Noah seem special
theres something about him. I hope he becomes this teams soul. I love how Ben Wallace says he asks alot of questions! I call him Jo. My GF told me he was on the news and he was to pick up doughnuts for the players and he picked up Dunkin. They wanted Crispy. Really though, Im more of a Dunkin guy.

this is great from BG.
"Everybody on the team, the majority, prefers Krispy Kreme for some reason," Gordon said. "It's not even about the taste. It's just further away, so it gives the rookies more trouble."

the real question
will Option27 be wearing his Yi jersey tonight? ;-)

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Oct 9, 2007 9:50 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I am still bitter on Yi
But I would never ever root for a player playing against the Bulls. LOL. He will be something special though.

 . . . . . .  And for the record, I don't own a Yi jersey.

Only Deng, Hinrich and Gordon

I've liked
Noah since they drafted him. I love that he brings some fun to the team and he's not afraid to make fun of himself. I don't know what to expect from him this year but he certainly is willing to do whatever it takes to be the best he can be.

I liked what Curry had to say about Kirk too.

Kirk and doughnuts
No. 1, that was a nice thing to say about Kirk.

No. 2, is anyone else irritated at reading the same stupid doughnut story in 5 different articles?  I mean, okay, its a cute story, but man, it really brings home the fact that they haven't played a game yet.

Really wish I could watch tonight (#$%!-ing Time Warner).

Score. Or do not score. There is no clutch.

Is Noah
playing in the game tonite?

by Jbasic89 on Oct 9, 2007 3:36 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm quite frightened
of some freak accident involving his shoulder or Noc's foot.

Hopefully I haven't jinxed anything

by Option27 on Oct 9, 2007 3:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I can see the game recap now . . .
"While skying for a rim-shattering jam from the free-throw line, Andres Nocioni kicked Joakim Noah right in the shoulder."
Score. Or do not score. There is no clutch.

ugh
more like 'while nocioni flopped backwards into Tyrus Thomas' knee, he drew applause from the Bulls bench for the team defensive effort'

Sam Smith then writes how if only Tyrus worked harder he could've avoided the collision.

meanwhile
running out to catch his fallen teammates ben wallace threw out hsi back, landed on joe smith's knees, which forced Coach Skiles to fall of the wagon and start drinking again.

Bulls still managed to win by 34

Another Season
and more Stacey King to ruin my nights

by Option27 on Oct 9, 2007 6:33 PM CDT   0 recs

I prefer
Stacey "Sky" King ANY night over Tom Dore.  I don't think I can stomach any more of TD's lil sayings, bland play-by-play, and corny jokes.  At least Stacey King IS funny from time to time, and offers REAL analysis.

I love Red...but I'm honestly still wondering why they're letting him hang on.  He offers nothing anymore, as far as basketball commentating goes.  He'll occassionally chime in with a lame joke, a yell at the refs, a Stinky Friar comment, or an MJ reference...but I think it might be time.

With Tuesday's preseason game, he literally seemed about 2 minutes BEHIND Tom Dore and Stacey King.  They were talking about the current happenings but then he would chime in with something that happened 4 plays ago
