Another Skiles gem

God, he's such a jerk, I love him:

Asked Tuesday whether Tyrus Thomas has improved his jump shot during the summer, coach Scott Skiles replied, "You mean the supposed 700-800 shots he was taking a day?"

The passive-agressive-sarcasm-ness is already in midseason form.

When I read that this morning
I didn't really think about it as sarcasm but now that I think about it, it is Skiles at his best

wiat im confused
did tyrus not shoot that much?

by milesgmsu on Oct 3, 2007 11:39 AM CDT reply actions

thats doesn't seem like much
hmmmm but I never really counted when I would practice. All I thought about was ways to make it go in. I hope he's doing that and Im sure he is. Shaq worked on his free throws all those years and he still sucks. Thats a bad example but I know he has nice form in his shot. I see Pippen in him, well atleast the raw Pippen. He just changes the whole game.

I think it was Skiles's nice way of saying
It doesn't matter if he can hit that shot, I still won't play him unless he's busting his balls like everyone else...

I didn't really get that
What is he trying to say there?  Tyrus must have some big issues at practice.  There are other recent references to Tyrus sustaining effort and being consistent, especially in practice.  It'd be nice if someone would write the story, but you won't find it in the Sun-Times.

I don't think it's meant to be an indictment
just that Skiles probably read a bunch about the tons of jumpshots Tyrus was taking, but Skiles wasn't there so he's saying he'll believe it when he sees it.

They don't have room in the Sun-Times
to pick on anyone else with all the time they spend slamming Kirk.
"They had me do a psychology test and I asked Coach Skiles if that affected his coaching. He laughed and said, `No way.'" (Joakim Noah)

Seriously though
You can see how Sarcasti-Skiles could wear on players.

by paxson43 on Oct 3, 2007 1:16 PM CDT reply actions

You bet
especially if you actually had been taking the shots and had little to show for it - frustration x2.  On the other hand, all of us heard ad nauseum the annual summertime tale of Tyson Chandler's massive weight gain and newfound jump shot...

I read it the same way.
I think Skiles was trying to shift the media attention on Tyrus away from his shooting and onto more important aspects of his game like focus, which should lead to fewer turnovers and fouls.  He wants the media asking Tyrus about those things, not his shooting.

I don't think so
Knight hated Skiles.  I don't think Skiles was a big Knight fan either.  ..or chokes any of his players.

well
at least he has yet to throw a chair during a game ...or have Brian Dennehy portray him in an ESPN Original Movie.
Who would potray Skiles in an ESPN Original movie.  Jeremy Pivens w/ a Bald Cap? Russell Crowe? Gene Hackman? ...Jared Fogle?
Nah, they'd probably make it an animated movie and cast the Simpsons McBain ...."Lesser of the Van Gundy Coaches, prepare yourself for the mighty force of my Duhon!"
