Bulls and Lakers talking daily about Kobe!

ESPN's Chris Sheridan reports the Bulls and Lakers are talking about Kobe on a daily basis.

The article states that the Lakers asking price is for Deng, Gordon, Thomas and Noah. But Bryant is telling them he ain't going to Chicago if that's what the Bulls gave up knowing he would be in the exact situation he is now.

Also stated is that Bryant pretty much has the Bulls as his number 1 destination preference.

I'm sad to read that the Bulls also have said that reports saying Deng would not be included in any trade have been overstated.

So there ya have it. Apparently this is some real hardcore stuff if they're talking daily. This may very well happen sooner than we thought it would.  Paxson is not a dummy as we very well know so I'm going to assume Pax does nothing to dimantle any hopes of a title coming to Chicago soon by giving up too much.

These are the kinda stories that were being written about Garnett going to Boston just a few months ago and we all know how that ended up.

If this happens before the end of November
I'm assuming the Bulls were willing to give up Deng cause Nocioni wouldn't be able to be traded by then.

That just hurts to even type that

Beyond stupid
how about Gordon, Noah and Wallace...I wonder who would play center...let's ask Matt.

by hlac on Oct 27, 2007 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Well
Bryant apparently said in a report a while ago that he preffered to play with Wallace. So I don't think he would go for that.

by Option27 on Oct 27, 2007 4:40 PM CDT up reply actions

I would throw in Noah
instead of Tyrus.

Well
I am sure they would want someone with lots of upside and as good as noah may be, tyrus has that potential which makes him a lot valuable and desirable.  you cant get kobe for peanuts.  Even the celtics had to trade jefferson and some promising young players to get garnett.

I am so
sick of hearing about Kobe. Blech!!!

If a trade does happen.......
then how do they fill in the empty roster spots?

four first round picks for kobe?
yeah, those fuckers in la la land are dreaming.

by jocrucial on Oct 27, 2007 5:53 PM CDT reply actions

Do not forget a trade can be completed by
doing a sign and trade with PJ.  I am sure he will agree to take 5-10mil to be a buy out salaray filler.

This would allow the Bulls to throw in future draft picks in place of multiple scrubs (IE Adrian Griffin) that the lakers do not want.

Noah sucks...
Can't give up Dang Thomas and Gordon though.  got to keep one of them.  IMO, keep Thomas.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 27, 2007 9:08 PM CDT reply actions

are you kidding?
You'd rather Tyrus over Deng?!?!  Over Gordon?  (even over Noah?)

I know it was preseason, but...from what I've seen Tyrus has shown zero improvement.  I remember reading earlier in the offseason that his jumper had shown significant improvement because he was shooting x-amount of jumpers a day.  Whatever...

I'm an LSU alumn and still hold out hope that we'll actually realize some return on the "upside" of Tyrus Thomas.

That being said, I couldn't put his value in the same range as that of Deng and Gordon.

by bpa on Oct 28, 2007 10:54 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't necessarily agree with your
analysis of Thomas, but...

GEAUX TIGERS!

Let's beat Bama.

(If it isn't already obvious, I am a proud STH of both the Bulls and LSU FB.)

no, no
I'd rather have Gordon, but I don't think we can.  I'm saying we have to keep someone and the Lakers want Deng and Gordon.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 28, 2007 5:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Kobe's a time bomb, though
We can't wait for talent to develop in the couple years that Wallace and Kobe are still here and productive.  I say Noc,Gordon, Noah, and 1st round picks for the next two years.  Take it or leave it.  At least then, Deng, Kirk, Kobe and Wallace will be ready to compete, rather than having to develop Thomas so much more(which btw will take about 4 years to do, think Chris Bosh).
Get that out of Tyrus' House!!!!

by cubbybear on Oct 28, 2007 5:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Sick of Kobe
Trade speculation stinks.
I've read too many articles about the team chemistry of the Bulls. And I think that ranks pretty high in Pax's head.

Besides, the Lakers are the one's on a tight schedule. Each day they do not dump Kobe, the closer to Kobe opt-out they will be. Desperation ensues and they'll trade Kobe for Chris Duhon and spare parts. jk...

Let's wait it out ppl...

no matter what trade situation , this sucks

by Grass on Oct 28, 2007 2:36 AM CDT reply actions

I do not understand how this could work
financially.  We need our salary cap experts.  Kobe has a no-trade clause.  I believe he has stated he would not accept a trade to the Bulls if Wallace is included.  He wants to play with Big Ben.  Kobe's salary is about $20 mil.  How can this work without trading Big Ben?  Gordon, TT, Noah add up to half Kobe's salary.  I think you would need a third team  to make this work.  Help!!!

I like our team and do not want to start the season thinking about breaking them up.  Deng, Hinrich and Gordon are a great combo that can keep us in the mix for 7 - 9 years.  Kobe has played a lot of minutes and may have 2 - 4 good years left.

by chgobr on Oct 28, 2007 8:15 AM CDT reply actions

My perspective on the cap
The Bulls have to match 75% of Kobe's salary in the trade.  In addition Kobe's contract has a trade kicker meaning if he is trade he gets even more money.

The Bulls have 3 players with large contracts. Kirk, Wallace and Noce.  Noce cannot be trade until December because he was recently signed.

A trade can be made using Gordon (or Deng which is doubtful) and most of the bench (Duhon, Krappy, Thomas, and others). Or the Bulls can do a sign and trade deal using PJ Brown as part of the salary equalizer.

If neither of those scenarios work the Bulls would have to trade one of either Kirk, Wallace or Noc to make the salaries match.  In the case of Noc it couldn't be until December.

by Rankdog on Oct 28, 2007 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions

sign-and-trade Gordon
I believe the general CBA rule regarding "matching salaries" is that a team cannot take on more than 125% of the salary outgoing plus $100,000.

That's why the Bulls need to put together plenty salary to send to L.A.

Assuming it's correct that the Bulls could sign-and-trade P.J. (an unrestricted FA) - they should be able to just as easily (under the CBA) sign-and-trade Gordon, upping his 2007 salary to bridge the gap between Kobe's salary and the combined salary package the Bulls would need to send.  Plus, it would lock BG up to a longer deal.

If L.A.'s planning on BG (supplanting Kobe in) being their scoring SG of the future, they're probably interested in getting his longevity guaranteed before shipping Kobe.

by bpa on Oct 28, 2007 10:47 AM CDT up reply actions

kobe trade
there's one small problem.... the lakers are thin at the guard positions so they will want some guards back..... but the bulls are in the same situation...the point is, why would the lakers want something like Noah when they have 3 centers in Bynum, Mhim and Brown?

by Chilai on Oct 28, 2007 10:27 AM CDT reply actions

It depends
if they felt that Noah was a good player to build on.

Mihm and Brown are older and pretty much not going to get better than what they are.  Noah has more upside and may already be a better player.

Also Noah can player center or PF so you can play him with Bynam.

I'd do this

Throw in some draft picks......Kobe is brokering this deal? Thats awesome!

Hanley semi-refutes the report
link.
A source confirmed Saturday that the Bulls and Lakers had talked last week but denied that the sides were close to sealing a deal in the last few days, as reported by ESPN.com.

Sheridan's been so off-base in his speculation that it makes me doubt his reporting as well.

Dont trade for Kobe just But if you do,
The package should be Kirk,Sefolosha, Wallace.  We dont want to give up too much for this guy.  Give this team a chance this year, see what they can do.  If they don't make it to the conference finals, then Pax has to look at trade options.  This trade is probably the only one that works financially anyway.

by DannyRange on Oct 28, 2007 3:33 PM CDT reply actions

good trade
I hope that this deal gets done leaving gordon and kobe in the back court (reasonable to expect 60 pts a night from those two)  Gordon CAN PLAY POINT!! (having Kobe would make that even easier)   Kobe says he wants to play with BenW, but I think he would still come.  And reminder, Ben Wallace stinks.  he gets paid a lot, mainly to bring veteran playoff experience, but he disappeared against the Pistons.  Like you say, moving Wallaces contract makes this deal better.  Let Noah and Gray platoon at center.

The leverage is ours  in this deal so lets get it done...(still think we win it all if we don't do anything)

Gordon
Kobe
Deng
Thomas?Noc
Noah/Gray

trade kirk, BW, Sef, plus a first round pick to sweeten the deal

by Zac23 on Oct 29, 2007 1:15 AM CDT up reply actions

yeah
let's get two guards that don't distribute paired with rookies at the center position and spice it all up with more minutes for Duhon.

NO KOBE!
We don't need a self centered baby.

He wanted to be the face of the Lakers and the whole stage known as Staples Center for himself and NOW he realizes that he needs good teammates to win championships?

Those three rings hes got and no Finals MVP...
oh yeah there was that guy name Shaq...

Bulls are a "We" team and Kobe is a "Me" guy.

I think that a trade with Washington for Gilbert Arenas makes more sense...

by AngryAsianAce on Oct 29, 2007 5:10 AM CDT reply actions

Arenas
I'd rather have arenas as well.  don't know what wash wants and if it would be more or less than the lake want for kobe, but the fact that kobe wants to go to the bulls give us leverage

I know Kobe wants to be like Michael
But not THAT Micheal!

He won't want to go to Washington, the market is too small and their uniforms are too ugly.

CHI-TOWN STATIONS SAYING THE DEAL IS THOMAS, NOAH, AND GORDON FOR KOBE.

I have no clue which "chi-town stations" these are supposed to be but take it for what it's worth.  All I know is that it's just very coincidental that Paxson is low-balling Ben (in my opinion), knowing that signing him would virtually kill any Kobe trade until next year.
