Quick evening link dump

  • Carnival of the NBA #15 is up at brother-site ClipsNation.

  • The Painted Area completely nails it in response to a Bill James quote from last week. I especially loved the part comparing the NBA Playoffs to the NCAA tournament. Go read it.

  • Looking for rust in the mighty (ya know, when they feel like it.) Pistons armor (they're really good when they feel like it, just ask 'em). Sheed is already abusing officials. Rip hurt is ankle

Ok I'm grasping at straws with Rip, I just like knowing he's hurt. But the Rasheed stuff (combined with his frequent tiffs with Flip Saunders) will likely destroy that team sooner or later. Unfortunately last year it didn't happen until after they eliminated the Bulls.

  • The Bulls were crazy to give up J.R. Smith. Dumping talent like that is nuts.

They sure make Sheed out to be a victim of the ref
Its funny to read, but the author seems to believe that they are out to get sheed more than ever and that is why he gets these calls.  Not that he is crazy.  Although he is the kind of crazy I like because he does his own thing.  One final thing on Sheed, I can't believe he averaged only 12 ppg last year.  He is WAY too talented to be so mediocre.

But JR was...
But JR was tall. Who cares if he can score or play defense or ruin the teams chemistry...did you see how tall he is? 6'6" thats like 90 trajibillion millimeters taller than Ben Gordon. Stupid Paxson doesn't know what he's doing.

Should note...
Should note that the previous post was a poor attempt at sarcasm/humor. I'll try not to let it happen again.

Me, too!

You're NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
J.R. Smith is a knuckle-head.  The last couple of months of the season he was in George Karl's doghouse.  He was late for practice constantly.  He's one of these guys who likes the riches and fame that the NBA offers.  He riminds me of Eddie Robinson.  Just because he can dunk it doesn't mean he's a good player.  He also bitches about playing time.  You think J.R. Smith wouldn't be chirping once he realizes he's only getting 10 minutes per game.  Also, he plays NO DEFENSE!!!  Simply put he wouldn't fit in.  He's not about team.  He's a complete ASS!
Is it me or does Lebron walk like a duck?!

You're PERCEPTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kidding about Smith.

Smith wouldn't work on the Bulls
That's like Tommy Lee drumming for NSYNC

For a TALL guard he doesn't do much..
Look at these stats from last year >

J.R. Smith >   2.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.1 blocks.  His career average in blocks is a whopping 0.1 per game.  what???  Being a tall guard, I would expect much higher numbers in those categories.

*  Anyway, Skiles would literally be charged with assaulting J.R. Smith before training camp was over.  Those two would never get along.

Also.....
He just stays out on the perimeter and shoots 3-pointers all game long.  He's very streaky and takes a lot of ill-advised shots.  Very glad Pax traded him.  You really want this guy in the locker room/hanging out with Tyrus Thomas, Noah, and the other young guys?  Before you know it, Tyrus would be showing up late to practice.  A headache Pax knew he had to avoid.

I have a feeling that
CubFan81 was being sarcastic. I think we all agree that JR would not have been a good fit with the Bulls.
The Future is bright!

JR Smith
Is a taller, more athletic Janeero Pargo with a serious attitude problem.  Gimme Pargo any day.
Get that out of Tyrus' House!!!!

It seems the bulls are built around teamwork
and character over talent but will need at least one alpha male leader to get to the top. Just not
an arrogant mediocrity like JR smith.

Tyrus Thomas: MALE MODEL
I don't know where else to post this, so I'll throw it up here.

"Second-year Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas made his runway debut recently in Barbara Bates Design during the Allure of Couture that celebrated the artistry of new and established designers around the Chicago area. The event was conducted in Millennium Park."

So i guess if the whole being tall and jumping high thing doesn't work out at least he can take solace in being really really good looking.

James article
The first thing that struck me about the Bill James article is that James just doesn't seem to be a basketball fan.  Every negative point he made about pro basketball could equally apply to major league baseball.

He says, "A fan can look at the standings in December, pick the teams that will make the playoffs, and might get them all. This has a horrific effect on the game. Everybody knows who's going to win."

Aside from being patently false, how is this any different from baseball?  How about the Yankees being a playoff fixture for my entire lifetime?  Good?  Bad?  I don't know.  I DO know that in the Bulls' heyday it was like touring with the Rolling Stones.  The Bulls' brand became the NBA's worldwide trademark.  Basketball interest grew exponentially during the dynasty years.

Or how about this?  This is the jumping off point for James' analysis:  "Take the problem of what we could call NBA "sluggishness." In the regular season, players simply don't seem to be playing hard all the time."

NBA "sluggishness?"  He can't be watching the same NBA I am.  I would say that if a team really sucks--in any sport--it becomes difficult for the players to get up for every game.  But Bill, isn't this the crux of many people's criticism of baseball?
