DuHaters Rejoice!!!

The almighty Skiles has taken notice of the prolonged slump Chris Duhon finds himself languishing in currently.  Skiles even hinted a lineup change may be imminent!.  Read that again Haters.  A LINEUP CHANGE MAY BE IMMINENT!  Now if we could only figure out which god to pray to or which animal to sacrifice so Thabo and Tyrus could get some burn...

to please the Skiles
The best way to pay homage to Skiles is to stand your ground on the sidewalk and take a charge from other pedestrians.

Anyway...the lineup change is good, of course. But I don't like being labeled a 'hater'. This isn't a college athletics message board. (also, there's a difference between hating duhon and hating that he starts)

If you're not a hater
then this post wasn't addressed to you.  Plus, it was sarcastic, which, if you haven't already realized, is my attitude towards all those prognostications that this Bulls team will win often and go deep in the playoffs.

I think the 'hater'
thing has something to do with how rational fans were simply tired of watching the Bulls play with Duhon in and Gordon out. A hater irrationally dislikes Duhon because he dances for dollars and isn't half as gritustley as Nocioni. Labeling someone a hater who has a reasonable argument for Duhon not to start is facetious, I think. Either way it's nice to see Jizzle where he should be in the lineup.

The drawback here is how Duhon is going to be used off the bench. I really don't want to see a quick hook for Hinrich or Gordon because Scott Skiles is in love with the low turnover Duhon (which has something to do with Duhon not being able to pass to Chris Duhon, and playing at a slower speed than Hinrich and Gordon). With Gordon in the starting lineup Nocioni's offense might be more effective off the bench.

I agree
if Gordon starts, Skiles might want to bring Noc off the bench, especially against bigger teams but I'm not sure who should start in Noc's place.  If you start Brown then he can't back up Wallace as easily, Tyrus doesn't seem ready and do we really want to start Allen or Sweets?

I'm really not sure,
but from an outside perspective it seems that PJ or Sweetney could play well if the given a shot at strating. Not playing starter's minutes, but Ben Wallace could really use some help on the glass and defending. Nocioni wouldn't have trouble scoring if he's backing up both Deng and the power forward slot.

yeah
Lets start Sweets, maybe can post him up in the half court offense I few times to get things going if things are slow in 1st.

I do agree that Duhon needs to be replaced, and Gordon needs to get into flow of offense with Hinrich/Deng, especially in 3rd qrts.  And Noc would be good coming off bench behind Deng and the PF.

Noc might even better
off the bench. It wouldn't be a stretch to say his health has been affected by logging minutes against bigger players. He could be really worn down by the end of the season.

Would it be worth
taking the time to compare the +/- of Duhon/Hinrich vs. Hinrich/Gordon after taking out all the Duhon/Hinrich/Gordon minutes?

I don't see all or even half the Bulls' games so some of Skiles's substitution patterns/choices leave me totally befuddled and a little curious and I'm game for a quick NBA research project if anyone's interested.

by Hoopinion on Jan 12, 2007 11:11 AM CST reply actions

I think it's kindof muddled
From what I remember, the player pair data with combinations of Duhon/Hinrich/Gordon are similar. However their better lineup is Hinrich/Gordon/Deng/Noc/Wallace (in comparison to the same lineup with Duhon instead of Gordon).

Is it 'worth it' to research? Not sure, that's up to you and how long it'll take. But I for one would be interested to see a more comprehensive study than my glances at 82games.com.

Although a lot changes when you consider how horribly Duhon's been shooting the past half-dozen games. That problably yields more dramatic results than the full-season data.

No player trios on 82games yet, right?
That would certainly eliminate all the work.

I was thinking of a game log for the two pairs and the trio to see if either of the partnerships were more consistently productive.

Based on what I've seen with my own eyes, I was surprised to see that Hinrich/Duhon and Hinrich/Gordon have been equally effective over the course of the season.

why 3 guards
as long as I never have to see Hinrich, Duhon and Gordon on the floor at the same time.  That was horrible against the Nets.  Why would Skiles go so small when Kidd, Carter and Jefferson all had height advantage and Duhon was giving nothing on offense.

by NY Chicago Fan on Jan 12, 2007 12:11 PM CST reply actions

That is..
the question of the hour! no doubt.  I am having so much trouble understanding any of Skiles moves lately.  If its possible for a coach to be in a slump... well then Scott certainly is.

This start to the second half in Wash is another example.  D'Shawn (spl?) Stevenson was dominating Du to the point they were going to him as a first option.  Stevenson!

To make matters worse Du was turning it over numerous time in that half as well.  I just don't get Skiles right now.

Skiles does seem to be in a slump
Skiles seems to have the instinct to always go small when he gets in trouble.  I thought last night was an opportunity to go big instead and challenge the Net's weak frontcourt.

I had hoped Skiles would seize the opportunity of Hinrich's injury as a means to put Thabo in the starting lineup.  As long as Duhon can't hit the three, it's better to have a 6-7 gaurd that can't shoot than a 6-1.  Thabo is getting going to get better at guarding players like Vince Carter in practices.

I hope
Du didn't read this diary and decide to go on a binge after the Saints game.
