Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Chris Wilcox

I haven't heard too many people talk about Chris Wilcox as a potential free-agent acquisition. Here's a guy, as Hubie Brown would begin, who went from being stuck behind Elton Brand in LA to playing 30 minutes a game in Seattle and averaging 14 points and 8 boards while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field and almost 80 percent from the line. I'm thinking he could be had for well less than what Curry got and we'd be getting better production (on the boards at least) as well as tremendous upside potential. Thoughts?

Wilcox
I agree with you completely. I don't understand why he's not mentioned more. It's just like how Roy has not garnered enough attention playing for Wash. No one pays attention to the Northwest teams. It would be awesome if we could get both those guys. Wilcox was a star on that Maryland championship team with Juan Dixon and Lonny Baxter. I believe is 6'10, and he would be a great addition.

howcome
why is it that Wilcox and Nene, the two free agent big men with the most potential (def more than pryz who is overpraised)dont get mentioned.  Is there the whole "not skiles type of player" inside them or are we assuming they are gonna demand 10 million?  Maybe that their respective teams are going to defenitely resign them?  I really dont understand it all.  I could understand nene a little because he is injured but apparently hes been working out and recovering pretty well.

CW
As a Bulls fan who adopted the Clips when he moved to LA, I can say, emphatically, that Wilcox would add much of the low-post scoring that the Bulls need.  However, he's no excuse for a center; he has no blocks, and his rebounding is good but not great.  Tyson would still need to man the 5.  Wilcox not only has good post moves, but he moves well without the ball.  The Hinrichs of the world would find him plenty of "easy" points.

So, I agree; why is he not being mentioned more as a valuable free agent option for Chicago?  While I love what Radmonovich added to the Clips, I bemoan that a high quality big man like Wilcox is being simply wasted on a team like the Sonics.  While this is worth another diary on another blog entirely, the Sonics need to pursue a Mike D'Antoni game plan, and they need at least four players who can hit the three to pull it off.  Wilcox would be wasted in even the best system for that group of players.

Incidentally, I spent the weekend in Chicago, and put very simply, Los Angeles needs more Portillo's.  Period.

So Portillos is the answer
Um, I'd rather have Ricobenes breaded steak personally, or El Famous Burrito...

Sign Wilcox as an FA. I can live with that. Is he an FA? Take Roy at #2 then? And trade the #16 or pick the Dookie Williams?

Ty1 at C and Wilcox at PF.

Maybe.

I love Grant Park in June!! Been there six times!!!

What do we want to do with Tyson?
First of all, Portillo's is awesome.  Great Chili Dogs.

Secondly, Wilocx could be an under the radar type guy - much like Nene. I think it comes down to where the Bulls envision Tyson having the most success.

If they're looking to move Tyson to PF, they'd likely need to acquire Nazr, Nene, Aldridge, or Pryzbilla.  I think this plays to Tyson's strength's as a help defender, and increases our team size.

If they Bulls want him in the middle of a more athletic lineup, then Wilcox or Ty2 makes more sense.

I still need more convincing about Pryzbilla.  He's just so goofy looking.

Wilcox
According to HoopsHype, Wilcox is a Restricted Free Agent.

Seattle is likely to match any reasonable offer, so the only way to get him is a sign & trade.

nene
hes a big boy...he can paly center. We should sign two big men: nene/pryz for defense and wilcox/nene for offense and potential.  I would cap that deal at around 13 million.  Another guy no one has mentioned is   Nene and wilcox will add inside aggresiveness on the offensive side and wilcox isnt a bad rebounder...Nene neeeds some work on defense but physically speakin he is huge.

Another guy who could be a HUGE steal that no one has mentioned is Jarron Collins (jason collin's brother).  I admit I have never seen him player, but http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jarron_collins/index.html

with the following scouting profile from hoopshype

http://www.hoopshype.com/players/jarron_collins.htm

He is getting paid 1.7 million at this moment.  I rather snatch him up than songaila and maybe even malik who are both gonna be making more money.

it's been some time
but we did have a thread on Wilcox.  He's definitely a quality player and Seattle, MIGHT, re-up him.  He definitely is not center material, so that could be why he's not being discussed.  My gut tells me it's more likely that he might demand too much money on the open market, he's being viewed as the annual Jerome James Memorial Award winner (though I doubt that) or that the bulls are low-keying him so that the price stays low.  I think he merits a look though.  Getting him AND a Pryz/Nene/Nazr center-type would be a great off-season.
As for Pryz, the reason the Bulls are keying on him is that he's a big body, he's a great team player and he plays good d (at least when it comes to blocks).

Pryzbilski
He's also a free agent and he wants to get out of the turmoil in Portland. I think he would like to come to Chicago and would fit in with the rest of the players.
My only question is how much better are we with him in the lineup instead of Sweetney or Allen. Certainly we're a better rebounding team but not stronger offensively.

Pryzbilski?
It's Pryzbilla. Try to remember it rhymes with 'Vanilla Gorilla'.

Pryzbilla?
It's Przybilla.  Try to remember that his name's pronunciation bears little resemblance to its spelling.

Cap Room
As far as I know, there are only a few teams (Chicago, Toronto, Charlotte, Atlanta) with any significant cap room. Unless Seattle matches an offer, Chicago seems like a no-brainer for him. I'd rather get a known quantity, even if he's not All-Star material than watch another rookie big man develop. (Unless he's the next Amare or something.)
