Great games make it harder to blog since there's nothing to bitch about

Not much you can say about that Celtics game, the Bulls absolutely pounded a bad and injured team. When they face poor defensive teams the offense moves the ball, gets to the rim, and makes shots. But it's not enough if they want to contend, they have to be able to score when someone challenges them. So I'm just going to enjoy the piling up of home wins and not get too excited over outstanding play until their next real test. But remember, good teams don't win close games: good teams win blowouts. So blowing out a bad team is not a meaningless sign.

Some other quick thoughts: I will say that although the scenario is rare, Luol and Nocioni will pound any frontcourt that's actually smaller than them. And Duhon actually played a good game. And it's good to see Sweetney get some burn: averaging 17 minutes his last 3 games. And...the whole 'cheering for the Bulls to score 100 in order to get free big macs' is pretty lame but it also means a win, so eh.

Also, have to love Skiles' postgame comments where he focused on the upsettingly poor defense in garbage-time. Hopefully he gives the bench guys some slack, knowing that the refs give up too in those situations, making it that much harder on the defense and allowing busts like  Tony 'screamin while down 28' Allen to pad his stat line. Although I would be concerned about Adrian Griffin, who looked terrible. In a way, I'm hoping he's still hurt, that's how bad he looked.

On to some links:

  • If you're feeling really nostalgic for former Bulls, ESPN's Chris Sheridan tracked down (sub. reqd) a few out-of-work former NBA-ers including Toni Kukoc, Antonio Davis, Eddie Basden, Eddie Robinson, Jay Williams, Jermaine Jackson,  and Lonny Baxter.

  • Via TrueHoop, here's some (free) John Hollinger analysis on the Bulls:
The team that's better than you think: Chicago. Believe it or not, the sub-.500 Bulls have been the class of the East thus far. Granted, this is a complement along the lines of "the best sushi in Wyoming" or "the best beach town in Siberia," but in spite of a losing record the Bulls have done well against their conference mates -- going 6-3 vs. the East -- and remember, only five of their first 16 games were at home.

Moreover, the Bulls have more potential for improvement than any team from here on out. That's true both internally -- rookies Tyrus Thomas and Thabo Sefolosha figure to improve substantially as the year goes on. And externally, no team has more trade assets than Chicago, which could allow it to net a Big Kahuna like Kevin Garnett or Ray Allen at the trade deadline. Even though the Bulls are off to a rough start, the rest of the conference has been so disappointing that this still looks like the team to beat.

  • Here's another example of how the Bulls' tough early schedule makes their standing in the East seem worse than it really is.
  • A couple of the Free Darko guys got some press credentials and were in the Bulls locker room for Saturday's Wizards game.

game tommorow
tommorows game should be our first real test of the home stand, if we have any :)...not that the 6ers are a good team or anything but see how we look against a team thats already beat us

i predict a solid 12-15 point win, but no mammouth blowout

by kaptainkirk23 on Dec 6, 2006 12:07 AM CST   0 recs

or
or we're out for blood and revenge on national TV and its the biggest blowout of the season, one or the other

by kaptainkirk23 on Dec 6, 2006 12:12 AM CST   0 recs

We're the best team in the East?
Has Hollinger watched any of our games against Cleveland the last two years?

True Point
Damn Drew Gooden...he just plays out of his mind against us always

Ray ray
I'm torn on the Ray Allen thing. One the one hand, he's a tall shooting guard who scores consistently and has a Skiles-proof personality (ie works hard, is a great role-model). On the other hand, he's pushing 30 and his knees could give at any moment.

What would you guys give up for him?

i'd give up...
adrian griffin and 2nd rounder

by NocChapu on Dec 6, 2006 4:00 AM CST   0 recs

on second thought, ,,,
seriously, though, I would rather develop the talent we currently have on the roster (ie gordon, sefolosha) than take a risky move on a veteran like we did this past offseason.

by NocChapu on Dec 6, 2006 4:03 AM CST   0 recs

So what are those former Bulls doing
I've got to get ESPN insider.  Maybe.

It's interesting that Pax went to AD.  Do you think if AD came back, we wouldn't have traded for Brown?  Memphis was interested in Chandler, too, I think.

by KT on Dec 6, 2006 6:15 AM CST   0 recs

ray allen is just a taller, more experienced...
ben gordon......if we could get him without giving up any of the big 3(deng, hinrich, noc), tyrus, or the knicks pick....then sure go for it but i highly doubt that so no

the most i would give for him is gordon, 2nd round picks and PJ

by kaptainkirk23 on Dec 6, 2006 10:56 AM CST   0 recs

He's Ben Gordon
without the streakiness, with a mid-range game, better handles, better f-t shooter, and more! I wish there was some sort of player comparison primer on the internet.

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 11:04 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

oops
I forgot to mention better actor. I just didn't believe Ben Gordon was watching digital cable or enjoying a pizza puff. Jesus Shuttlesworth is real as far as I'm concerned.

Hollinger
made my day.

But seriously, as Matt stated .. .. no reason to get giddy when this is all what us fans expected. We all knew the Bulls were good and had to face the toughest beginning month schedule in the league (while still trying to gel). There had to be that bump in the road. It was never going to be an instant championship team. Now that the schedule is starting to balance out, so is their record.

Likewise, if you look at the Lakers strength of schedule, it's the exact opposite. No team has an easier start to the season. The Lakers have played 13 out of 17 games at the Staples Center thus far!!! 13 out of 17!!! And against teams like GS, SEA, POR, MEM, TOR, MIL, and NJ. And people are surprised that they are 12-5 this season. They are 1-3 away from LA! Wait till they get on the road against good teams like the Bulls have, and their record will balance itself out as well. The Lakers are not a top 5 team, nor are the Bulls.

What gets me excited though, is the weakness of the East and the fact that the Bulls already have got their tough part of the schedule out of the way and are still right in the thick of things. It gets me excited to see Deng and Nocioni really starting to come into their own. It's get me excited that this team hasn't even played their best basketball yet. It gets me excited that Thomas and Sefolosha are starting to be productive. What gets me excited most is that we still won't have an all star player this year...sad.

Ben Wallace
has a shot at winning the popularity contest.

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 11:08 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

no he don't
not while there's still that shaq guy in the league

by kaptainkirk23 on Dec 6, 2006 11:13 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

Howard
is more deserving than Shaq (who may not even play in the game for health reasons). Ben still has a better shot than any other Bulls.

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 11:22 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

I just don't see it happening
I feel as if fans get brainwashed my the media when selecting their votes. Ben Wallace is getting bashed on by every sports writer in the nation. As for the forward spots, I see Hamilton, Carter, Johnson, O'neal, James, Butler, Prince, and Rasheed Wallace filling up those spots before any Bulls gets noticed. I don't agree with these picks however but just see the brainwashed public agreeing with them.

by Option27 on Dec 6, 2006 11:20 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

Prince
hasn't made an all-star team yet, and the media bashes Sheed and Iverson on a regular basis. Rip Hamilton is only getting in at guard. I really don't see anyone but Billups going for Detroit, but you never know with fan voting.

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 11:26 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

Prince
didn't he make it last year along with every other piston? I thought he did, but I mught be mistaken.

by Option27 on Dec 6, 2006 11:27 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

nope
prince was the only one....

by milesgmsu on Dec 6, 2006 4:28 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

however
the fan vote only counts for starters...the coach might make the right call and if noch and deng continue their play get in...

by milesgmsu on Dec 6, 2006 4:27 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Deng maybe
but Nocioni, despite having a great game on occasion, doesn't stand out nightly.

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 4:59 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

not so fast
noch and deng each have a shot at that last eastern conference F spot

by kaptainkirk23 on Dec 6, 2006 11:12 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

Ok, Lee
Vince Carter, Lebron James, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Grant Hill, J.O. (even though he's playing center), Howard might play the Tim Duncan I'm a forward card too...

All those players are shoe-ins compared to Deng and Nocioni. If the Bulls have a really good record by midseason there could be more fan support, but Deng and Nocioni are still longshots.

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 11:32 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

and Chris Bosh

by Paxson Jackson on Dec 6, 2006 11:33 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

All Star Votes
I think it would be hard for Shaq to get voted in if he doesn't suit up again until January.  Wallace catches a break as Bosh, Okafor, and Jermaine O'Neal are listed as forwards on the All Star Ballot.  I think Wallace's main competition at Center will likely come from Dwight Howard.

by Jobu on Dec 6, 2006 11:26 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

agreed
I think the Center votes go to Shaq (by the fans) and Howard, an obvious choice. That's why I don't see Ben making it.

by Option27 on Dec 6, 2006 11:28 AM CST to parent up   0 recs

thanks
I didn't think a ballot would be up by now.

RE: Thanks
Not only is it up.  But Bulls.com has been promoting the Bulls 5 selections.

Get out and vote everyone!  We can make a difference!!! :)

Paul and Nash?!
Who is going to score in the West backcourt?
Or are they just goin to throw a bunch of alley oops to Brand and Yao?

by Option27 on Dec 6, 2006 12:04 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

RE: Paul and Nash?!
Has scoring ever been a problem in the All Star Game? :)
  1. East 122, West 120
  2. East 125, West 115
  3. West 136, East 132
  4. West 155, East 145 (2OT)
  5. West 135, East 120

by Jobu on Dec 6, 2006 12:11 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

but
i don't think a team in those games ever had 2 pass first point guards in the starting line up.

by Option27 on Dec 6, 2006 12:15 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

ahh
you didn't vote for all 5 bulls?????

TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been
voting for the last two weeks. I thought everyone knew the poll was out. Sorry.
