Since the blog's underperforming, I'll shorten the rotation
Haven't had much reason to write, except for pithy comments. But we need a new thread, after all.
Everything plaguing this team has been exhaustedly talked about, no news of any internal change in the interim. No real trade rumors to chew on.
Some good news: WSCR reported that Deng (achillies), Noc (flu), and Hinrich (sharing a straw with Noc and also getting the flu) practiced on Thursday. The flu buggers are good to go Friday, but Deng's still a maybe. It's been a week since Deng's played but only 2 games have been missed. So a return against the Sixers would be a pretty lucky break, all things considered. It's pretty frightening to see how much they depend on him, but judging by his history he would've likely disappeared in the 4th against the Knicks as well.
Now to get back to the malaise this team has put most of us under, I'll reiterate: It's bordering on lunacy that Wallace and Smith and Noc are playing so much while Noah and Thomas are playing so little. As much as Tyrus Thomas is a lightening rod for disagreement here, Noah's absence is even more criminal based on this season's evidence.
Um...that's about all I got. Here's an interim quote:
Well good that it's recognized that winning and development aren't mutually exclusive, but why did you shorten the rotation then? [Wait, he wanted to 'do something'. Just like me and this post. Oh, the irony. -ed.]
I'd go on but I'd just be repeating myself.

Too bad nobody bought the...
Give Ben Wallace the Tim Thomas treatment for 2 1/2 years unless he promises to be good or to be "good". Tell Joe Smith he's an MLE and, by definition, can't bitch about playing time. Tell Noc, well, whatever it is one tells Noc.
Play Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah and start winning some fucking games already. Sheesh. Why does every Chicago sports franchise suck at what really wins games except for when they get lucky? Why do I care?
minutes distribution
PF: Tyrus 48
Noc: deported
Wallace: shot
We win title.
(nah f'real though, Wallace and Smith should be 25 and 20, Noc only as backup SF from now on. I'm with Tyger's anger here. Bullshooter's happy losing to that up-and-coming Knick squad.)

SOLVED!
I promise
Smith 15
'showcase'
But even if it's smarter to wait, how impotent does Pax look having no in-season moves in 4 years?

When did the rotation shorten?
Wallace and Smith are playing more
And by your criteria, they all need the right matchups to be effective.
It's a shit rotation until Tyrus and Noah get 25+ minutes each, pretty much. Maybe we lose to the Knicks by 8 instead of 5.

your end comment is most frustrating
C Wallace 30 / Noah 18 (maybe insert Gray vs bigger Cs)
PF Thomas 25 / Smith 18 / Noc 5
SF Deng 32 / Noc 16
SG Thabo 16 / Gordon 32
PG Kirk 32 / Duhon 10 / Thabo 6
and then stuck with it every game baring injuries. is there any chance the Bulls have a worse record? I can't believe there is! The Bulls should have run more as they had 10 man rotation and the young players Thomas, Thabo, Noah all would be much better today as they would have gotten stead mins for the 1st thrid of the season.
So at worst the Bulls have the same record as today but their roster would be more experienced and improved, better players ... or at least the Bulls would have better idea as to who the guys they drafted are.
Today Bulls have crap record and haven't developed or figured out who the young players are ... which is the worse part as that is the future of the franchise in either playing them, using them in trades, and deciding who to sign from their own team and free agents

Playing TT 25+
bah
What's the right matchup? If it's "not at the 3", I agree. At the very least you have to play him to find out how he's matching up that night. I really think other teams have to worry about matching up with him.

You say it's settling for the lottery.
The patented Sam Smith
What's the thinking on Tracy McGrady?

Have you not figured out yet
If Arn Tellem
I know Tellem is close to Reinsdorf and he would find anything other than a playoff appearance as a disappointment.
I don't know if it is good or bad, but Tellem also represents Gasol and McGrady. If either player does come to the Bulls, were still left paying off salaries negotiated by a very good agent.

If the Bulls aren't going to start Gordon
The problem with the Bulls is their "plan" keeps changing after a couple of games.
Looks like Thabo

That would be the right track.
Sometimes I wish he'd just ask us first...of course, not that he'd care what we have to say :)
Evidently Pax

What do you think?
I think his shots fall eventually. I too want to see more Thabo time, but I think that comes now at the SF position and to open the 2nd half. Duhon settles this team early through limiting turnovers and earning assists. He does this without passing to Ben Gordon since he's on the bench.
Today the Toronto press is reporting on the Raptors interest in acquiring a point guard. Let's hope Paxson's phone is working.

I do think
PG: Hinrich, Duhon
SG: Thabo, Gordon
SF: Deng, Noc
PF: Smith, Thomas
C: Wallace, Noah, Gray
they've ascended to 27th in offense
So yeah, I think playing Chris Duhon (WITH BEN WALLACE) so much MAY be a problem.

they've gone up in the last 6 games

I don't know when it went up
(Oh right, the magic bench sauce was rubbed on Gordon. )

he scored 18 in that game
by bullshooter on Jan 11, 2008 12:01 PM CST up reply actions
It's not just about how many points he scored
There's a visible difference in the Gordon who lights it up and the Gordon who clanks it off the back of the rim.
It was obvious he was going to get better. Bench or not.
by RogersPark Kris on Jan 11, 2008 12:08 PM CST up reply actions
they've been scoring more
actually
by bullshooter on Jan 11, 2008 11:59 AM CST up reply actions
I believe they played ass teams
This all reeks of overthinking. Is he managing the game? facilitating? calming influence? Duhon sucks, shouldn't be playing.
by your friendly BullsBlogger on Jan 11, 2008 12:11 PM CST up reply actions
You're right they've been scoring more.
i've heard
I think
If you look at who has been starting (Hinrich, Duhon, Deng, Smith, Wallace) only Deng and Smith have nice shots. The rest of them are clunkers. I can't see how that doesn't hurt us.
At least Thabo can finish a layup, guard taller guys, and get steals. His long range shooting sucks, but Duhon can't even go in strong for a layup consistently and is undersized to begin with. I wouldn't mind seeing Thabo take Duhon's starting minutes.
Me too

My opinion is
It is interesting how everyone is worked up about the PF/C positions when we seem to be shallow in the back court even more. While we are not playing our deep bench (Noah, Thomas, Gray) we simply have no deep bench for the back court.
Right. Of course.
Matt, I've just been doing some reading about asymmetrical giftedness/learning disabled...visual-spatial IQ over 160 accompanied by logic-reasoning under 70.
They say a bright kid like you can develop amazingly creative coping devices and hide it for a while...but eventually the truth comes out and you have to deal with it.
this would all be great fodder

alec isn't hip enough for free darko
That trade for McGrady would be great
Ben Gordon would also be included, therefor abandoning that horrible last shot selection problem the Bulls always have
And Tracy has 2 seasons left on the contract so even if it doesn't work out, won't the Bulls be able to cut loose on that salary when LeBron and Wade both are able to opt out?
It's a wide gap
McGrady is owed 21 mil and 23 mil.
I think moving Wallace helps get more PT for the kids, but it also admits that the club is taking a big risk to still make the playoffs. McGrady only gives you 68.3 games per season. He only plays 34 minutes a night. He's not the solution, but I think he could do things for us that no other guards on the roster can do now and that is get to the free throw line and put opponents in foul trouble.
Considering what is happening right now to this team, how close are we to becoming just like the Grizzlies are today? They too were a playoff team with 3 solid seasons. They didn't win ANY playoff games, but they still made it even in the West. Chicago might be a Memphis clone in the East. You just wonder how much longer they can continue to make the postseason and then falter.

move ben wallace and kirk
Mr. Poison and Mr. Inconsistent moved on one trade, now that's progress!
I know it's not popular to suggest Kirk, but I'm beginning to see he's not going to lead this team because he's too self-absorbed in trying to justify himself as opposed to coming outside of himself, taking charge (on the court, in the locker room, etc) to win basketball games at all and any costs.
Therefore let him and wallace become stars on some other team...
It seems as if the only discussions revolving around Hinrich from everyone is "whether his shot is on or off?" We have (like Kirk) reduced the captain and pg position into only a field goal statistic? A PG/Captain should represent so much more by example and consistency on the court, leadership, motivations and be a verbal leader dedicated to winning...
It only takes one real committed leader (pg or wing position player) who has competitive basketball skills to motivate this group of role players. The quest is to find that player..
T-Mac or Paul Gasol? I wouldn't bet on it. Now if Conley is part of the Gasol package, he might be the diamond in the rough? How be it, he's young, 6'1" (but his vertical if off the charts)and it seems it might set the Bulls back to retooling some? But he's a true leader and pg, with skills and has a competitive fire burning inside, so his youth really can't be despised. Keep Gordon on the bench, get a starting SG taller than 6'3" who has a high basketball IQ, shoot the 3 or score, can play stellar defense, rebound, slash and drive to the basket in that order of priority.
Conley will compete on "some team" equally with the future young all-stars or elite PGs in Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Brandon Roy and Rondo.
I've only come to this conclusion because we didn't draft Brandon Roy who I dubbed as the savior to both Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich. Kirk and Roy starting and Ben coming off the bench would have formed one of the best backcourts in the NBA. It didn't happen, now Kirk is somewhat of a liability without playing together with a D.Wade or B.Roy type who assumes some PG duties.
Unless Kirk can be paired with this type of player who also has the leadership potential he's just a decent role player.
I just read the bolded parts
THE FIRE INSIDE!

The worst part about this season is that
The entire UC crowd is dazed by the team's soporific play. Even when they are winning, they aren't much fun to watch. The little guards scurry about the perimeter in a frenzy, circling and circling. Early fouls amass. Luol cuts horizontally across the lane, or rises up for a mid-range jumper. Wallace grabs a rebound, misses a layup, attempts an ill-fated fade away, occassionally gets a block, sometimes disappears. In the last thirty seconds of each quarter, the Bulls get outscored by 12. A forlorn cry of "Kobe" echoes in the far reaches of section 322. Gordon nails a three, dribbles off his foot, tries that step back jumper at the elbow for the fiftieth time. Team scores fifteen in a quarter. Hinrich pouts, fires up his patented one on five jumper in transition, looks incredulously at the ref, plays drive and kick. Cuppy Coffee beats Dashing Donut. Three minutes to go in the game, Bulls tie it on Nocioni's lone made FG. They don't score again and lose by 7. Sigh.
The whole experience is tainted by the knowledge that this team isn't going to win a championship. Everyone expected further progress after last year's playoff win over the Heat. Instead, we get regression and inconsistent mediocrity.
NBA basketball, played well, is the most graceful, explosive sport in the world. The Bulls have somehow transformed it into a predictable exercise in hardwood somnambulism.
