Reason to really hate the Celtics now.

One full name all Bulls fans dispise, Reginald Wayne Miller!

Now there is talk that Reggie Miller wants to make a return to the NBA and the team rumored are the Boston Celtics who now seem to be this years version of the 2006 Miami Heat. Or should I call them the Miami Mercenaries? I guess you could say that about any team/ Player in the NBA to some degree. But more so with the 06 Heat. It's becoming a bit New York Yankee like to win a ring by whoring out. But Hey like I said thats they way things are these days. This just seems like maximum whorage by the Celtics if they sign Miller.
Not that Miller would improve the Celtics considering this age, time away and lasting images are of him getting his ass blocked by Prince in 2004. Atleast thats my lasting post-Jordan memory. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Spi-4_6Ugdg

If the Celtics bring Miller in then it could only add to my new found dislike for the Celtics who at one time were my second favortie NBA team based on Legacy, Uni's and Logo. It's no secrect they just might be our new found foe next to Cleveland who I do think will become more of a rival like the Knicks to the 90's Bulls. I think those trains are about to run on the same track sometime in the near future. If Boston lives up to it's billing they should be in line with Cleveland as the old circle on the calendar mama said to knock you out match up. It should be an interesting Eastern conference.

Your very obnoxious.
I will never read anything you type again with one ounce of consideration or care. Your just a waste of a read. I really can't converse with someone who can't even drive a car or drink a beer. This is the last coment I will ever direct towards you. Your Dead to me. You just don't exist as a functioning mind. It's clearly undevoloped. Just by stating the word penicillin I know you must be of the age of 14 or under and drugged by your mother and the fucked school system that pruduces an assclown like yourself. Now go ask your mom to take you to the dermatologist and don't ever comment on my diary again or I will contaminate your drinking water with my piss. I hope a tornado distroys your computer.

(copied from another thread)
I think Ainge's 'plan' is to avoid more tax penalty. So he can only sign guys to the vet minimum (which doesn't get taxed, as I recall)...and that's fine if they were trying to fill out spots 12-15 instead of 4-8.

But Miller can't play anymore, so in his case it doesn't matter. It does matter when they're signing Scott Pollard instead of a more productive big.

I wonder what Garnett will do
when he looks around at his teammates and realizes he's the young 'un of the bunch.

Ainge should call up Oakley, too.  Oakley wants to make a comeback.

Actually
the Yankees haven't won any rings by buying outside talent.  They make the playoffs, but they don't win the WS.  Those teams from the late '90's were built around home grown talents for the most part.  Jeter, Rivera, Pettite were NY draft picks and Posada, Bernie Williams, and whoever they have at 2nd were, too, IIRC.

by bullshooter on Aug 8, 2007 2:20 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

well
the strategy has sort of shifted after all these years of no WS rings...aside from clemens, the yankees are veering towards homegrown talent.  Cano, Cabrera, Wang, Petite, Jeter, Chamberlain and Phil Hughes are all yankees from the start. They could trade half of those players and get bigger stars in return but have so far have not. Its the red sox that have started spending a lot more money lately and trading minor league prospects (Dice-K, Gagne etc..).

last comment bout baseball
Most players for major market teams arent from their own system. I was just merely stating that the Yankees are trying to change their philosophy of accquiring big names in favor of nurturing their own prospects and getting a more rounded team that fits well together. Plus they are trying to cut the payroll.  And the main people of the championship teams throughout were bernie, jeter, mariano, maybe petite and maybe cone.  Not to say the others didnt contribute (couldnt have won w/o them) but it was a different makeup than what they have had the past 5 years or so.

It isn't all that bad.

There is only one douchebag here. And really, every site needs one douchebag to make the remainder of the posters look good. The internet douchebag is kind of like that one token fat girl who is always out with the gaggle of blond hotties at any bar in Chicago.

You. I'm sure an Adonis like yourself has no time for the "token fat girl" (in text anyway), but the misogynistic comments really aren't necessary. You don't have to impress your buddies with wisdom like that here, or at least save it for a dot-com chat with Bill Simmons.

Ok, you got me, I admit it, I confess, I can't
hide the terrible truth anymore, I can't go on living a lie, I can't lead this double life, I must admit the dark secret that has been plaguing me since I was a youth, it's all so true, so damned true and undeniable: I prefer beautiful, fit girls over fat ones.

Whew. I feel much better now.

I said it was a misogynistic comment
And dividing women into two groups (fat chicks and blond hotties) is really a missed opportunity to use the far more insightful and evolved scale of 1 to 10, or better yet, how many beers it would take. The fellas at the cafeteria table are going to be disappointed.

Back to basketball...
Somehow, Boston's potential acquisition of yet-another guy who can only jack up set shots and provide no defense doesn't scare me. People keep comparing this Boston exercise to Houston when they got Barkley. I think another good comparison is the 03-04 Lakers: they brought in hired guns Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Horace Grant, of course, the Human Highlight Reel Part II, Stanislav Medvedenko.
They got to the finals and lost to the Pistons, but Malone and Payton never really found their place on the team. I could see that happening to Ray Allen and, if it happens, Reggie Miller/Oakley/Scottie Pippen/Manute Bol/Ghost of Pete Maravich or any other corpse Danny Ainge happens to sign.

Oh, and to fit in: someone's a douchebag, baseball is great/sucks and JoeJoe [insert opinion here].

by Old Skool Sloan on Aug 9, 2007 10:16 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Malone was hurt
and Kobe sabotaged that team in the finals.  Otherwise, they win.  How is that a good scenario for the Bulls?

You don't like blind item douchebag comments?
Crazy.

I'm waiting for the Pippen will be a Celtic rumor myself, but in defense of that Lakers team Payton and Malone had something left. Reggie Miller hasn't played in 2 seasons.

by hscs on Aug 9, 2007 10:24 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agreed on that last point
This Miller thing is completely out of nowhere.

I always find it insulting to the league when retired players get hyped up by fans as comeback candidates, like they assume the talent level is that easy to be a part of as long as you have your fundamentals intact, instead of working legs.

Pippen, like Oakley, may have his name come up because he needs the money.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Aug 9, 2007 10:35 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

OK, you got me
Malone and Payton had more to offer than anyone the Celts can get. Now I'm even less scared of what the Celtics can do with Miller. Bottom line: I don't think they make the Eastern Conf Finals, but the addition of Reggie would add comic relief to the season. Especially for when Boston plays New York.

Side note: I wonder how Garnett's foul-count goes up having to play so much help defense? Do you think that could affect his offensive performance?

by Old Skool Sloan on Aug 9, 2007 11:21 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm less scared of the C's
not just because even if they get Miller he won't do much, but it appears that they're just grasping at minimum-salary straws (as I said above, it helps lower their luxury tax amount)instead of getting guys who can help more. Like a PJ Brown or something. Hell, even Malik Allen.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Aug 9, 2007 11:26 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ok here's the tax thing I'm talking about
finally found the actual passage:
When a player has been in the NBA for three or more seasons, and is playing under a one-year, ten-day or rest-of-season contract, the league actually reimburses the team for part of his salary - any amount above the minimum salary level for a two-year veteran.  For example, in 2005-06 the minimum salary for a two-year veteran is $719,373, so for a ten-year veteran, with a minimum salary of $1,138,500, the league would reimburse the team $419,127.  Only the two-year minimum salary is included in the team salary, not the player's full salary.  They do this so teams won't shy away from signing older veterans simply because they are more expensive when filling out their last few roster spots.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Aug 9, 2007 1:51 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I hope so
It's tough to predict how those 3 players will perform. I think it would be tough to come up with a mashup of veteran 'star' talent who could theoretically play better together. Pierce and Allen have both played well with ball-hogging chuckers in the past, and Garnett is dynamic enough to fit just about anywhere. How the Celtics will perform defensively is the biggest unknown, and Garnett could get worn down eventually.

by hscs on Aug 9, 2007 11:34 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I may be wrong
but I just don't think they will be a huge threat to the Bulls. They have years of experience but that doesn't mean they will mesh right away. The Bulls youth are a year older and should be able to run circles around them.

by sue369 on Aug 9, 2007 11:41 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Allen Houston
wow, more old jump shooters coming out with "may return statements"

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2967380

What does this say about the young players in the league where old guys like this still think they could be useful just because they can still shoot?  Maybe some more players should learn how to shoot.

by NY Chicago Fan on Aug 9, 2007 1:20 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Rick Barry thinks he can still play
I won't bother to find the quote. But he believes he can shoot jumpers and not have to play defense by hiding him in a zone.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Aug 9, 2007 1:52 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Probably says more about the older players
It says that either they need the money (like the rumored Pippen comeback earlier this year), or that they can't find anything else to do with their lives that interests them (like MJ).

I really liked Penny when he was with Orlando,
even taking into account the '94-'95 playoffs. I liked him with Pwhat happened tohoenix/NY also. I always thought it was a travesty, with his knee injury and all, to  him. I mean, I remember eating cereal and reading up on Honeycomb cereal boxes as to why they called him "Penny."

I hope he gets in some good minutes and helps whatever team he's on, even if it's the Miami Heat.
