I bet if you add up
the age and weight of every player on the Heat it equals 1,000,000,000,000,000.

nets look good....
when we beat the heat we might be better than playing nets

Seems like we've been waiting forever.
I'm thoroughly jealous of everyone who gets to watch live, but at least from this point on every game is televised for the rest of us!

Let's go Bulls!

Kirk has got to stay on the floor
Stupid fouls.

I think it's worse to play Miami, because I not only want the Bulls to win, but want Miami to lose big.  This last few minutes sucked.

Question to those that have been to UC
Do they have microphones on the rims?  All the misses sound like crap

by Boney on Apr 21, 2007 2:36 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

yea they do
but the swishes are beautiful sounding....i think they turn off the mics sometimes...that or you get used to it....it really helps when catching the game on the radio

the players call him BG ont he court
which means im officially retiring the term "jizzle" and switching back to BG

by milesgmsu on Apr 21, 2007 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

not our best quarter
but considering how well the heat are shooting, it could be far far worse....i like that we're driving and getting to the lane...the outside jumpers will fall in time....and fatoines shots wont fall in time

by milesgmsu on Apr 21, 2007 2:40 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

9 assists on 9 baskets
and only 3 TOs and 6 fouls - overall I'm happy with that, except of course for the fact that 2 of the TOs and 2 of the fouls are on Kirk.  Hopefully he can let the bad start go and get back in the game here.

by wjb1492 on Apr 21, 2007 2:44 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

i dont know if kirk ran over Eddie F. Rush's dog
or something, but those have been 2 really shitty calls and 1 decent call....2 fouls would be acceptable but to give him 3...ugh

i do like the immediate TO by skiles to tell duhon to stay down...i can imagine the conversation

"du...gotta stay down...DEFENSE...wade likes to...defense....up fake the...defense...defender...defend the hoop

defense on three..."

Remmeber last year when wade stole the ball off of sweets and hit a lay up?  paybacks a bitch! BITCHES!

side note: i thought in real time that was clearly a goaltend, but all in all dropping the homer view the refs are doing a real nice job

If hinrich stops getting pacman jonsed by the refs we should be well off

Interesting
Heat's top scorers are
Shaq-17
Wade-12
Walker-11
3 tied with 2

Can we shut down Wade and Shaq and pull away. I hope so.

Hmmm...
If the Bulls get in a position to protect a decent lead(KNOCK on wood), would they want Thabo or Kirk on Wade? I'm thinking Thabo right now. I love Kirk, but...

Let's not
forget so early how good Hinrich is on Wade. If anything, just replace him with Du in the rotation.

I agree
if Thabo keeps this up he might push Du back in the rotation which i think would be good. Have Hinrich and Thabo be the guarders on Wade for the series.

heres what im thinking
peej is a veteran player and kirk is the cap'n and for all intents and purposes a veteran....

SO...

they're watching the game and they see that when thabo (are we ever going to give him a nickname or is it just thabo) and noch are in, we play awesome....so they both draw fouls to get benched

2 things
  1. If you look on paper, You'll think this game was much tighter than the whole game appeared. I'm not gonna fret that they only won by 5 cause the threes weren't falling and Hinrich wasn't doing shit. If they can win under those circumstances, I like our odds.
  2. Under obvious conclusion, Deng had a monster game. But the thing that comes out at you is how many of them were easy shots. Because so many were easy, just makes me giddy knowing he'll have a few more games of this. Miami absolutely has no answer for him.
P.S. Bulls really know how to get Shaq in foul trouble, don't they?

Got back, throat hurts from screaming
Needless to say: More Tyrus.

I'm almost glad they don't play again until Tuesday so I can rave about the team for a few days. And explain why playing Noc so damned much almost killed them today. To his credit he made enough plays on offense to hold the lead, but he really hurts them on defense and rebounding.

Hopefully Thabo keeps Duhon on the bench, Skiles deserves credit for changing up the guard rotation in the second half.

And, Luol ruled. Ben was good enough, and Hinrich had a rough game but unlike the meatballs surrounding me in the 300 level he didn't need to be taken out. I don't get why Hinrich got shit for getting taken by Wade but Noc is deified even though he was always slow to rotate.

ANYWAY, UC crowd was fantastic it was a great atmosphere. Lots of positives, I'll get to them later in the week. Now time to drink.

Live from UC Ketel One via blackberry
Noc-i-oni.

I see the school of stubborn  still won't acknowledge Noce's contribution, even though he hit a huge three down the stretch then had the giant three point play that fouled Shaq out. Oh, and the put away free throws.

Tyrus played terribly in the first half. Left walker open for two threes trying to help weakside  and got beat off the dribble but was bailed out by an offensive foul. Much better in second half, though. Good block sequence and oop.

Deng was awesome. And thabo saved us from the retard refs and hinrich foul trouble.

Wallace poor in first half better in second.

The uc was rockin. Still is, in fact.

Must dominate tuesday.

wow, who has the agenda now?
Noc contributed in the minutes he got. But I still think he got too many minutes.

Nobody thinks Nocioni sucks, you need to stop feeling he's persecuted. He played well down the stretch, and it was necessary because they couldn't extend the lead when they took Tyrus out!

I didn't want to get into this now, but I look at it like this. If you're the Heat and your frontcourt is Haslem and Walker, and Tyrus Thomas just dunked on your head, you're thanking Skiles for putting Noc back in. It plays into their hands as the slower team!

Besides the fact that he can't rotate quickly, can't jump, and is short, he's a good defensive power forward. (sorry couldn't resist some sarcasm at the end)

lil disadvantage on the bberry man
Thought you might relent and bow to the obvious. Noce third leading scorer with eight huge0 points down stretch. Skiles clearly wants him in. Have to admit tt really didn't play all that well. 2 pts 1 rebound. Noce and tt both had two blocks.

F it doesn't matter. Bulls up 1-0.

Meet me in section 119. Well fight it out. So kidding!

theres no way you take noch out for tryus
noch was playing well, and we all know he kicks up his act in the playoffs.....not to mention we're putting a rookie....a 21 year old in place of a world traveled 26+ year old veteran....noch may have gotten too many minutes, but he certainly earned and used em...

and while i love du (great new nickname...DUH) and peej they were the ones that had too much time

Noc
was a very very big part of this win. One of the things that was constantly there for the Bulls was the high pick and pop and Nocioni is way more effective in that scenario than Tyrus. If Tyrus was in there, he would most likely be making some bad mistakes with his energetic style, esp in his first playoff game.

I think Skiles played the rookies perfectly today. If Tyrus was as much as a difference maker as Thabo, he most likely would have been put in. They "got their feet wet". Hopefully all the jitters are gone. More of the Tyrus we've come to know lately would definitely be a plus in this series and no one is arguing that he's not valuable while he's in there. It's just that Noc does more overall good things while in than Tyrus at this stage.

And that Tyrus dunk was good and all, but it was his only points. I think the Heat got over it pretty fast. Tyrus did have some wild baseline jumper that also barely hit the rim if i recall correctly. Noc also drew a few charges. Those are as effective as Tyrus's blocks.

From watching on the TV
I think I see what both of you are saying.   But, my reaction is closer to Mr. ChiTown.  I am curious to read Matt's view on why he thought playing Noc almost cost the game.  I thought he played big on several critical plays.

Overall, great win.  Hinrich barely plays, no one is hitting 3s in the entire first half, and the Bulls not only come away with a win, but have almost breakout type games from Deng, TT, and Sef.  Deng for killing them (can I get a witness on saying Wade could'nt guard Den?), and TT and Sef for really playing well in their first playoff minutes.  If I were the Heat I would be concerned, although I am sure they will publicly say that it was all bad reffing.

Great start -- bring on Tuesday!

I never missed a free throw in an NBA game.

'almost'
because Noc DID come up with big plays and they pulled out the win. He played well! I just think if Tyrus played more it would've never been close because they have no answer for him, and he's such a better team defender than a hobbled Noc right now.

If the Anti-Noce agenda
gets a big W (adios, Andres) this offseason, at least it'll stop fuckers from getting all gloopy about Mr. Playoffs when Ben Gordon nearly gets a triple-double playing emergency point, and Deng scores a bunch of points (far more productive playoff performances than Nocioni's). Sadly, no one has that agenda, but Tyrus would have helped hold the lead better.

by Paxson Jackson on Apr 22, 2007 6:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Everybody seems to be missing the point
Noc is not a 4 except in dire "small" situations.  He can and should be played alongside Thomas, as Deng's backup and a second fiddle to Gordon on offense.  He was +5 for the game and even in the 4th quarter.  Tyrus was -5 for the game.  But Tyrus complements Noc with his rebounding and Noc is obviously the better shooter.  I wish you guys would stop arguing about this stuff.  Noc was played at the 4 only out of necessity.  The big takeaway from yesterday's game is that minus one of the Bulls 2 or 3 best and the Heat minus their second best, the Bulls won.  The Bulls couldn't pull that off last year.

by bullshooter on Apr 22, 2007 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I've been trying to convey
the relative tiny-ness of Nocioni's contributions yesterday. Gordon and Deng had monster games. I disagree with  the "dire situations" idea, only because Skiles likes small lineups, and it wouldn't be a shocker if Nocioni spends most of his career playing power forward. Even with his rebounding and blocking limitations he benefits a team most when he's drawing bigs out. Nocioni couldn't get his shots against quicker wings.

Some thoughts
I'm not sure how to feel coming out of this one.  On one hand, Kirk picked up one dumb foul, two cheap ones (particularly the one on Payton) and an offensive foul which ABC decided not to show or replay.  To win a game with the him basically not playing against Miami and Dwyane Wade is great.  Plus, the Bulls missed a lot of good, open looks, including many behind the arc.  So I'm feeling good about those things.  However, with both Shaq and Wade in foul trouble, playing at home, and the refs calling it pretty even - that game should not have been that tight.  And I can't look for too many things that the Bulls can improve - aside from having their captain on the floor.  So I don't know what to expect for Game 2.  I'm more nervous now than I thought I would be.  But then I think that Walker can't keep hitting like that going forward.  In any event, this was kind of like a non-game in terms of progression in the series, depending on the adjustments.  A tight slug-fest probably plays into the Bulls hands, even if Miami has a better rep with the refs and more experience.  Bulls are the better defensive team, so I'm OK with tight games.

Great play from both Bens, Luol, and Thabo.  Aside from the pull-up loooong 2, The Mister's offense was very good as well.  Thank goodness we no longer have the three-headed monster of Chandler/Sweets/Malik trying to guard O'Neal.

I can't imagine they're going to keep Wade on Deng.  It kind of allows him to rest on the defensive end, but he's too short to guard Lu.  Plus, Lu is not the same player he was last year.  If they keep that up, Good Night Irene...

Love the crowd booing Posey.  Keep it up!

Jon Barry had a bad game.  He even said at one point that he was rooting for Shaq.  Um, journalistic integrity/evenhanded coverage, Jon?  I know it's ESPN/ABC and they don't believe in journalists anymore, but still.  Every close call he thought should have gone Miami's way.  At least he was better than a lot of these dudes in that when he say a replay refuting his opinion, he changed it.  So I guess I give him some credit there, but he had some bad moments.  Including:  "Great crossover!" right as Wade lost the ball to Deng before the three-point-play vs. Haslem.  Going on and on and on about how he hates charge calls.  These are the rules, Jon - this is nothing new - get over it.  "Noshioni" (repeated) - that's a "C" Jon, and he's not Italian.  Mainly I got sick of him rooting for Miami.  I haven't heard him do that many games, so perhaps he just had a bad one.  I'm also still peeved that ABC never showed Hinrich's second foul.

In sum, I'll take the win.  There's little that's more exciting than a Bulls playoff game, particularly when it's a win vs. Miami.  Tuesday is huge.  I still think it's going to be Bulls in 5, but Tuesday is key.

[I just previewed what I wrote and it's kind of a long ramble, huh?  But I've no idea how to improve it - whatever]

One more thing
Chapu was extremely lucky that Shaq was in the circle.  At first I started cursing because he was clearly set on that drive.  One inch made a tremendous difference in the game.  I'm on the same side of the Noc fence as Matt, although I think he's necessary because he softens the defense due to his range.

Also, anyone else think the Heat look smaller this year?  Or are the Bulls just bigger?

Unbelievable....Shaq Blames Refs
Shaq-daddy diesal big shaq (whatever you want to call him or he wants to call himself) still refuses to give the Chicago Bulls an ounce of credit for what was just accomplished. Coming from somebody who plays on a team that every single player and the head coach seems to argue every call that goes against them, he said the Bulls were flopping because it was the only way they could beat him. He blamed the refs.

by paxson43 on Apr 21, 2007 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Three thoughts
  1. I think a lot of this is just posturing for the next game - Shaq's hoping the refs think twice before calling offensive fouls on him and so forth.
  2. I think it's funny that Shaq and Riley talk about special consideration for his huge feet and how high his elbows are (in relation to the defender's face) as something that should get special allowances from the refs - how about the fact that his being HUGE compared to everyone else is a big part of the positive aspects of his game (backing in, finishing even with fouls, etc.) - you gotta take the bad with the good, baby.
  3. Hongydraw, I hope you don't have a heart problem or high blood pressure or anything, because you sound like you're about to blow a gasket sometimes.  :)

sheridan
Perhaps Sheridan's worst sentence ever:
All in all, the Heat didn't have a whole lot to feel all that unhappy about after they were outplayed and out-executed for a vast majority of the game but still ended up having a chance in the final 20 seconds despite having lost Shaquille O'Neal to his sixth foul and despite getting zero sustained offensive production from anyone other than Shaquille O'Neal, Wade and Antoine Walker.

One of Sheridan's better sentences:

Yes, Chicago's core is still comprised of Andres "Nobody Raises His Game For the Playoffs Like Me" Nocioni, Luol "I Will Show You Why The Bulls Didn't Trade Me" Deng, Kirk "I Got Jobbed Big-Time By The Refs Saturday" Hinrich and Ben "My Mom Sat Next To Sheridan on the Flight In" Gordon, but two of the biggest Game 1 contributors were a guy who was in Switzerland during last year's playoffs and a rookie who was still enrolled in college down in Louisiana.

I just got home, turn on Sportscenter.
Catch the Bulls highlights.

They consisted of video of every Shaq foul with analysis of whether or not it should have been called. Then the Tyrus swat and dunk. Then a few obligatory Wade highlights. They don't show the key rebound by Wallace/Deng when BUlls were up one. Then they end by showing Wade's missed three.

I honestly think there were only two BUlls offensive highlights.

WTF?

They did at least spotlight Deng afterwards.

by 1958ChiTown on Apr 21, 2007 11:21 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I saw that too
And I've got to admit, some of those fouls on Shaq were very questionable.  Of course, they didn't show any of the repeated ticky-tack foul calls against the Bulls.  They also showed Pat Riley bitching about the refs, so I guess the playoffs have officially started.

You guys Tuesday will be different! Stay foucused. Im sorry Nocioni rulz matt. Yeah he's a bit slow but he does alot! We need more Nocioni and less Kirk. Anything Kirk can bring is just a plus. Kirk is not the best player on the Bulls.

The win makes for a great Sunday morning
I wish this was a one game series.  I loved the way we had so many different weapons to throw at the Heat.  Lu, BG, Thabo, TT, Noc, and BW made a huge tip at the end of the game.  Thabo definitely disrupted Wade.  When we play like this I love our team.

I thought Riley in the post game press briefing was decent but also a bit too optimistic, almost cocky following a loss.   I really think the Heat and most basketball pundits still believe the Heat are going to win this series.  The one exception is Peter Vescey who picks the Bulls to win the East.  Peter Vescey is a John Paxson fan and despises Isiah Thomas.

I hope I feel this happy Wednesday morning.

Didn't get to watch
the game til last night. I am so happy that they won this game.

Kirk had the best seat in the house for 3/4 of the game. He will not let this happen Tues. night. They need him on the floor. I felt his frustration.

Thabo stepped in and played a great game. He has shown in some games he can do that. He has grown so much as a player this year.

I'm with those in the Chapu camp. He played well when he was in. TT had some great plays too. Should TT play more than Chapu? I'm going to trust Skiles to know who should play and when they should play.

I don't think the Heat could whine any more than they did yesterday. They whined on every freaking call.

I don't know what to think about Tues. nights game. I see the Heat went home to lick their wounds and will be back on Mon.

Tyrus Thomas is a human highlight reel.

"Pat Riley likes to say that each game in the playoffs has a different personality. So you can't grab Saturday's boxscore and shake out only the numbers that give your side hope. You can't say that Luol Deng isn't likely to have 33 points again unless you are willing to concede that Miami isn't likely to shoot free throws this well again (22 of 27) and Antoine Walker isn't likely to shoot threes this well again (four of seven) and Hinrich isn't likely to score two points and have this kind of foul trouble again."
