Gordon's got to go (10/30 Kobe Thread)

I heard on the radio (local L.A. a.m. radio) last night that Gordon wants way more than the bulls are willing to offer.

Gordon + Thomas + Noah for Kobe makes too much damned sense.  Then sign Deng to a fair deal and we are looking at Jordan and Pippen part II.

This makes too much damned sense.  GET IT DONE!

Everyone's willing to trade Gordon + other stuff
I doubt you'll find many people on here who wouldn't trade Gordon + assorted other players (even including Thomas) for Kobe.  That's a steal.

The real question is whether we should include Deng in the deal.  That's where you'll get a lot of differing views.

by RM on Oct 30, 2007 5:41 PM CDT reply actions

can't do it
gotta keep Deng.  I really think he's the perfect complimentary player, ala Pippen.

Gordon
Thomas
Noah
1st round draft pick next year

how about that?

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 30, 2007 5:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Like I said
I doubt you'll find many people here who would turn down a deal for Kobe that doesn't involve Deng.  Let's face it, no one else on our team has the potential to be a true superstar (aside from Thomas, and it's unclear if he has the desire to become one).  So trading assorted prospects for a proven superstar is a no-brainer.

Unfortunately I think that if we don't give up Deng, the Lakers will hold on to Kobe, hoping something better turns up.  That makes a Kobe trade more of a mixed bag.

The only way we get Kobe without giving up Deng is if Kobe refuses to go anywhere else and it's clear to the Lakers that he'll dog the season and be a cancer if he's not traded.

by RM on Oct 30, 2007 6:04 PM CDT up reply actions

you said it right there...
The Lakers pretty much have to move Kobe.  It far better to get something for him rather than have a pouty player who half asses it.  So where can he go?  New York?  Sure but who can you get from New York?  Nobody.  As the guy I was listening to last night was saying (he was interviewing a guy from the Sun Times - I forget his name) the market for Bryant is very small.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 30, 2007 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions

And it would be such fun
to have that pouty player who half asses it in Chicago.

Agree with eveything you said but........
Tyrus Thomas is very motivated in becoming a star in this league.
Is it me or does Lebron walk like a duck?!

by GranvilleWaiters on Oct 30, 2007 7:58 PM CDT up reply actions

yea
so motivated he came into camp in shape and can play for more than 30 minutes without getting winded.  Tyrus does more talking than actually working. It's a bit worrisome.

Deng + Kobe does NOT equal Jordan/PIP
I don't want Kobe for this reason.  If the Kobe deal does happen I'm going to have to deal with all these uneducated Bulls fans saying Kobe is Jordan!  It's simply false.  Matt stated it very well in a recent post.  I love Deng, but Pippen he's not.  I'm not going to get into the many reasons why.  It's just a fact.
Is it me or does Lebron walk like a duck?!

by GranvilleWaiters on Oct 30, 2007 7:56 PM CDT up reply actions

You are right
I never said Deng and Kobe eqaul Jordan and Pippen.  I said they are Jordan and Pippen II.  The sequel.  And sequels are rarely as good as the original.

But the NBA is really crappy right now and Kobe and Deng would be as good as a twosome as there is in this pathetic league.  And good enough to win a championship together.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 30, 2007 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions

That Trade Makes No Sense
Gordon
Thomas
Noah
1st Round Draft Pick

For Kobe

LA is a huge Market and the would demand a Star in return. Most Bulls fans appriciate Gordon for his contributions but he is not going bring those high class LA bunches to fill seats.

But we never know, maybe LA might get desparate to deal Kobe if Kobe keeps "No-Trade Clausing" every "Fair" trade.

I hate that star bullshit.
Why does only LA deserve a ''star''?

by joejoeEnglish94bulls4ever on Oct 31, 2007 1:20 AM CDT up reply actions

Not so much
that they're the only ones who deserve a star, it's just that they believe that the "fans" out in LA wouldn't come to see this new fangled "basketball" unless it involved a STAR. Doesn't matter if the team wins or loses, but as long as the STAR is there, then they're happy. That right there is why the Lakers stink. They aren't running the team like a team but more a marketing product.

by CubFan81 on Oct 31, 2007 10:32 AM CDT up reply actions

and no he probably won't.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 30, 2007 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Why does Ben have to go?
I won't get into the Kobe trade since that's been discussed to death.  I doubt anyone is seriously against Gordon and filler for him.  It's when other "core" players get included that there's a problem

As far as his contract demands are concerned, I don't see a problem.  If Ben performs up to the star money he thinks he's worth over the next year or two years, then we can probably still sign him to that amount.

Otherwise he'll find out he isn't as good as he thinks, and nobody will pay him that much, and we can sign him to a reasonable contract.

Worst case scenario, he signs with another team in two years and we use that money we would have paid him to get a different shooting guard who can score, except maybe with a few extra inches.

Chad...
...in basketball, salaries trading between teams have to be really close. Those aren't.
Yes, of course.

by tyger1147 on Oct 30, 2007 7:33 PM CDT reply actions

well...
you could do a sign and trade for Gordon.  As long as the Lakers are in on the negotiations that can go a long way.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 30, 2007 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions

why not?

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 31, 2007 1:24 AM CDT up reply actions

It's been explained in the past week.
Sorry, I can't find the thread. Essentially, any deal would need to include Hinrich, Wallace or Nocioni after December 15th. Or a whooole bunch of players.

this thread's got to go
just because a player wants more than what the team first offers that means he needs to go??  If that's the case, then about 90% of all players need to go from their teams...it's called negotiation.

You can't fault someone just because they're trying to get as much as they can.

by ScottieCartwright on Oct 30, 2007 10:09 PM CDT reply actions

I don't fault him
but he is not going to get close.  I heard he's asking 15 and the bulls won't come close.  This is going to make him a restricted FA next year.  He'll walk.  That's why you he's got to go.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 31, 2007 1:23 AM CDT up reply actions

If he's a restricted free agent . . .
That means the Bulls can match any offer for him.  I don't don't why that means he would "have" to go.

by Big D on Oct 31, 2007 11:18 AM CDT up reply actions

they are not going to match
he'll get offered the money he wants which is more than the Bulls are willing to commit.

by Chad @ Blog a Bull on Oct 31, 2007 12:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Nobody is going to offer Ben 15 million
First, nobody could afford that much.  Plus, nobody that could afford to pay Ben close to what he wants would actually do it.  Vince Carter only got 13 million this offseason, and he puts up better numbers and draws a bigger crowd than Gordon.  Plus he's 6'6.

There aren't more than 2 or 3 teams that could afford 10 million.  They won't even bother to offer it because they know the Bulls would match it as Paxson has stated.

Gordon's going to be a Bull for at least the next two years unless he's traded

Merged diary
Best I could do. Wag of the finger to Hongydraw for starting a second Kobe diary on the same night.
Am I the only person in Chicago who does not want Kobe on the Bulls?
By hongydraw [Edit User]

I am looking at this Bulls team, and I see a team being predicted by everybody and their mother to lose in the finals at the hands of the west (suns).

Im sorry, but I cant see them being BETTER THAN THAT with Kobe Bryant hogging the ball on their team.

Please, explain to me how a lineup of Wallace, Thomas, Deng, Gordon, and Hinrich would lose in the Finals, while a lineup of Wallace, Smith, Nocioni, Bryant, and Hinrich would win?

In fact, I seriously think the Bulls would be MUCH worse, with Kobe. Im talking from 54 win potential to 49. I know that is where I am going to be disagreed with, but lets say the bulls get Kobe and win 60 games. Either way, in the playoffs they have a better chance to win WITHOUT KOBE.

Look at what Bryant's teams have done over the last three years, then look at the Bulls over than three year period. Heck, I remember as soon as Shaq left, Bryant couldnt even GET HIS TEAM to the Playoffs.

SAY NO TO THE CHICAGO LAKERS. Kobe Braynt should never be a Bull.

--------

Whether or not the Bulls would be a better team

with Kobe depends entirely upon who we would have to trade to acquire him.

Your hypothetical lineups assume that the Bulls would trade Deng, which management isn't willing to do (by all accounts).

If the Bulls had Deng, Hinrich, Kobe, and Wallace on the same starting lineup, they might be a very formidable team.

He took more shots than anyone

else in the entire league last year - 1,757, to be precise. Next highest on the Lakers was Smush Parker with 785 FGA.

Volume shooting should mean lots of points.

NBA. The Rockets were handing the ball to them. I wouldn't be too excited about that come back.

This is where it's going to be almost unbearable
I have horrible visions of non-stop Kobe talk (I know, like it hasn't been non-stop already!) - every time Kobe has a good game and every time the Bulls lose one, the Trade-for-Kobe faction will come out - and every time Kobe has a bad game, or makes a stupid statement, or the Bulls look great, the No-Kobe faction will come out.

Maybe Dallas will hurry up and make an irresistable offer soon, so that the talk can move on to the Bulls-should-have-traded-for-Kobe analysis (a la Garnett and Gasol).

I wonder if Sheed was right, is the NBA turning into the WWF? I have been hooked on the NBA since MJ was in the Red Uni but I don't recall it ever being like this. After almost two weeks the media has ''Kobe Fever.'' What I saw tonight was nonsense.
Doche Bag List
1.Kobe Bryant-what more can you say?
2.Everyone on the Lakers

Laker fans

People who think the Lakers will make the playoffs.

Anyone who says, it's LA they have to have a ''star.'' So your telling me that without a star in LA the Lakers would what? Have to move back to minny? The Lakers can't be like every other team in the NBA?

6.Magic Johnson- Does he have a real thought?
7.Doug Collins

Anyone on TNT. I don't mind Ernie.

Anyone who said the Lakers made a great comeback. While the Houston point guard shit in his pants.

Phil Jackson- For trying to coach that mess of a team and not being able to stand up. Phil looks baaaaaaaaad! One question Phil, Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
If I have to see one more shot of Tony Parkers wife..... Maybe it's the West Coast but that was a tacky opening night.  I hope Tomorrows Games have more structure and Defense. Looks like another title for the Spurs. Yeah they are boring as hell but they do it right .
I have to say I was all for a Kobe Trade as long as they kept Deng and Thomas until what I saw tonight. Let me just think this out, the player calls the team owner an idiot? He says he will never play in a Lakers Uni again? He says get a Bulls jersey. He takes it all back on the radio with Dan (MIA) Patrick. He calls out his teamates. He's missing from team events and practice. He gets booed and then plays the first game of the season like nothing happened? Only in LA. Do I want that guy on my team? Hell no. LA can keep him.
I feel dirty after watching both games. Kinda like watching the WWF. This is my drug? Grrrreeeat! I am still waiting for Magic or Barkley to say something other than whats obvious......I think I'll be waiting for awhile. Clean up the NBA before it's all the way down the tubes.
