Dunks

Hopefully all these moves will translate to more national airtime for bulls games so i can watch more games from new york.

Secondly, am I the only one who is extremely exxcited about the fact that this team is gonna be throwing it down hard near the rim a lot more than last years.  I want to see some high-flying action.  I love the buls gritty defense, but i cant wait for it to lead to some more exciting fast break that dont finish with lay-ups. Maybe i am hallucinating but i envision T^2 throwing down some alley-oops from hinrich and ben wallace being able to dunk a lot more than chandler because he can catch the ball better...Also JR Smith on fast breaks.  Whats Thabo's leaping ability like?  Can someone teach deng how to dunk the ball.  Nocioni throws it down harder than Deng...Oh man im looking forward to nezt season.

It's true that
Deng doesn't dunk it that much.  That was the knock against him when he was drafted, that he didn't have much leaping ability.  He denied it though, saying he doesn't prefer to dunk it that much, probably b/c it risks greater injury.  I don't see why he'd lack the vertical ability: he's tall, has a big wingspan, and is extremely athletic.  I remember once seeing footage of him playing around with a B-ball as if it were a soccer ball and he was very agile and had great lateral movement.  Anybody know Deng's verical?

Vertical....
I just spent like 10 minutes looking and couldn't find an exact number.  One article, back in the 2004 draft days, said it was less than 36 (a Cavs website was comparing their pick to other players).

But I came across this and the Bulls grade of just a B+ gave me a good laugh.

And the answer is...31.5
I just went on my own little search. Yeah, I found that cavs site (http://cavs.fanmonster.com/articles/0014.htm), but I don't think its accurate. It says "When tested, Jackson's vertical leap of 36 inches was higher than that of Luol Deng, Andre Iguodala, Kirk Snyder and J.R. Smith." Uh, what? I know Smith has a veritcal of 44 inches and Iguodala has a vertical of around 40 inches. One site, which I couldn't open had the following on the google blurb: "Gordon also managed a vertical jump of 37? inches , six more than Deng." Another forum (http://www.raptorblog.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t770-50.html) also reported Deng to have a 31.5 inch vertical, so I think thats his vertical. That is kind of low, don't you think?

Yeah
Hopefully he's doing a lot of squats.

31.5
That's low for a top-of-the-line NBA wing player.  For the rest of the world, that's pretty darn good.  Deng makes up for it a little bit by having arms as long as pool cues.

I love Deng
But that's a great comment: "can someone teach him how to dunk?"

Seriously, does anyone besides Lou do the two-handed "drop-in?"

Thabo
I posted a youtube clip of him dunking.  It reminded me of Pippen.  You can find it easily on youtube.

Krappy can also throw it down.

Legit Dunkers on the roster:
JR Smith
Tyrus Thomas
Ben Wallace
Thabo Sefolosha
Andres Nocioni
Victor Khryapa

I have no idea if PJ does anything special.  Luol is weak.  Ben has a great clip of him dunking in UConn, don't know what happened since.  You can find that clip on youtube as well.

JR Smith Dunking

If nothing else, we will have some highlight reels if we're up or down by a lot.

The description is nice....
J.R. Smith, another NBA player out of high school who was not ready for the NBA, and did not have an NBA attitude.

Skiles is going to love him.

I especially liked the bkgd
music.  "White America" by eminem?  Weird choice.

Hand Signs
I'm also sure Skiles is going to love J.R. holding up that diamond sign with his hands after every made shot and dunk.

lol
yeah I saw that... That is really unfortunate he's got 'Toine tendencies/antics...   I think Skiles will ban that...

Deng's Vertical
I looked it up and one site said that he had a 31.5' vertical at draft time.

interesting
if those combine stats are correct the players are a lot weaker than I thought

guess it probably shows their youth - haven't hit weights yet

I remember
when Chad Ford posted those numbers before that drafted.  Alot of players posted lower than expected numbers that year.  Iguodala was rumored to have a 40 vertical then posted a 34.5.  In contrast this year's crop posted some bigger than expected numbers, especially Roy who had 39.5 vertical.
