Conform or Perform?

After watching Jr pour in 40 on us for the nuggets, I'm not satisfied with the fact that he did not even get a chance to make our roster.  What is it Pax is trying to prove?  You have good players, that you can control, but you stay away from top talent because you can't control what they do.  Who cares what they do off the court as long as it doesnt interfere with what happens on game night.  Eventually, to get to the upper echelon of teams in the league, we will have to take a chance on a guy that has questionable off the court demeanor.  We are not a championship team with Chris Duhon starting at 2.

Star-divide

Also, as I have said before, I like Golden State this year under Donny.  They have great talent at the guard and swing positions, but could really benefit from a guy like PJ or Sweets.  Hopefully Pax is trying to work a deal with these guys to get Jason Richardson or Pietrus, and Roberson(Roberson and Ellis are very similar players and would be upgrades from Duhon).  It would be interesting to see how Skiles and Richardson would mesh.  I know we all love the Bulls but......

I don't understand it either
It's one thing to pass on players who have a long track record of being disruptive (like Stephen Jackson, for example), but you need to be able to distinguish those guys from players who just need to mature a little.  I mean, J.R. Smith just turned 21.  When Scott Skiles was that age, he was getting arrested on cocaine possession charges, so you'd think he would understand that better than anybody.

by Big D on Nov 22, 2006 1:08 AM CST reply actions

Elitist
attitude will lead to a demise.  skiles is not to blame mostly, he doesn't have final personnel decisions? or does he?  the moves made by the bulls in the summer of 2006 and the draft might be legendary, potentially on par with 1984 drafting of sam bowie.  interesting trail blazers might finally be redeemed.

Denver's Reggie Evans looked impressive in 24 minutes last night, this kid was a free agent this summer.  Observe the little things, (not just the explosive J.R.) Evans looks like a younger, better offensive, poor man's Ben Wallace of the future. Bulls gave up on Chandler, but didn't provide this H.S. kid an  effective mentor to teach him the game.  envision, "the dream" teaching Ty1 post moves and defense when Ty1 was 19, 20 and 21.

Thabo will benefit the Bulls.

Stephen Jackson? probably will be convicted of a felony. L. Bird will let this run its course and come away still having a public persona and perception that he sticks behind his players, regardless of character faults.  Jackson's contact voided!  Interesting.. same with the treatment of R.Artist.    Other players in the NBA see this treatment and wouldn't mind playing for Bird's team down the road.

Krause, after Jordon's era, made big mistakes.  He thought "it" was all about him.

Oh man...
"Evans looks like a younger, better offensive, poor man's Ben Wallace of the future."

Reggie Evans' offensive numbers are all below Ben Wallace's standard of futility, not to mention the guy averages .2 blocks a game for his career.

Where, why, how would the Bulls hire Hakeem Olajuwon to coach Tyson Chandler?

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Nov 22, 2006 8:12 AM CST up reply actions

Evans insertion? ..
.. wanted to make sure you were there.. Paxson.

When was Tyson and Eddie drafted?
"Olajuwon signed with the Toronto Raptors in 2001 but retired the following year".

by exult463 on Nov 22, 2006 8:51 AM CST up reply actions

If you believe the Bulls
missed an oppurtunity to hire Hakeem as a coach, I admire your dreamer lifestyle, but considering Eddy and Tyson both play for other teams, what's the point?

Eddy is on a team with noted 'big' genius Mark Aguirre, and that hasn't seemed to help.

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Nov 22, 2006 8:58 AM CST up reply actions

Also
They had Cartwright and Bill Wennington around as big-men coaches. There's absolutely no reason to believe that Hakeem would've been better because he was a better player. Like anyone who hangs around him will learn the 'dream shake' and become a hall of famer.

Maybe we can get Isaiah to teach the guards something too?

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Nov 22, 2006 9:22 AM CST up reply actions

Come on Matt
Cartwright & Wennington.. please don't attempt to have me say anything negative...  Cartwright & Wennington were good players. ... I'll leave it at that....  See my other comment in regards to the guards... We have good mentors. Heck, skiles one game assist record is still standing.

by exult463 on Nov 22, 2006 9:27 AM CST up reply actions

Moreover
Bulls are a (small) guard centered team.  Bulls have no lack in this area.  Heck! Bulls keep Barnett over all others?

by exult463 on Nov 22, 2006 9:31 AM CST up reply actions

"dream shake"
thanks for the laugh!

Who wouldn't want to learn from the best or the best available?
Matt I admire you for blogabull.com, this is a good site.  Also good to see you have put more advertising on site.  You need to be paid better for the enjoyment that your site provides to individuals.

Now I'm sure you study and attempt to make your sight better by reviewing lessor blog sites than yours?  Or do you study the tops in this industry?

P.S.: You still have room for a bit more advertisement space in the black spaces.

Andre the "giant" barnett? or barrett?

by exult463 on Nov 22, 2006 10:11 AM CST up reply actions

Mark Aguirre was a NBA 3 (sf)
Aguirre, a offensive player was not the player the "Dream" was.  It seems that Tyson supposely at one time processed skills similiar to "Olajuwon".
review this percevied assets:
http://www2.sportsnet.ca/basketball/nba/players/Tyson_Chandler/

I believe it is good to match exceptional young players up with mentors who excelled in similiar areas of the game.  Look at Duhon, an overachevier pg, florishes under skiles&j.paxson.  I'm sure skiles continues to effortlessly teach him the craft of the position he played so well, to the point that he needs him on the floor. A lot!

Surely Paxson, you see the value in good position targeted mentorship?  Other players on the current Bulls roster also need effective mentors...

Step back and read your overall premise
This is how I read it:

"The Bulls are bad now because they squandered the talents of Curry and Chandler by neglecting to get a hall-of-fame player to coach them individually"

Now read that back and tell me it's not at least impossible to prove, and at most completely stupid.

Every team has lots of coaches, and I'm guessing most had big-men coaches. And being a better player doesn't make you a better coach!

Thanks for ruining
my Doug Collins Trivia holiday diary.

This discussion could be about the Bulls mistreatment of Orlando Woolridge for all the pertinence it has to this year's squad and management.

Mmmm!
never thought about that Paxson?  interesting observation?

How about
just having the title "special assistant"?

Vets man Vets
Jr Smith is still a Jamal Crawford type.

by joejoeEnglish94bulls4ever on Nov 22, 2006 1:18 AM CST reply actions

he's not as good
as Crawford either.

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Nov 22, 2006 8:24 AM CST up reply actions

Sooner or later
JR Smith will end up in Karl's doghouse. Karl always has a player he fueds with and Smith will end up that player.

Karl's a drama king, and Smith will be his foil before the end of the season, and we'll all be happy that Smith isn't on our team.

by KT on Nov 22, 2006 8:57 AM CST reply actions

Karl
was ripping J.R. Smith after the game:
"Some days he walks off the court, and I want to strangle him."

Back to the diary
When was it indicated that the Bulls didn't like J.R. Smith because of off-court issues? I wasn't even aware he had any.

Pax does value practice time as much as game time, and that part of Smith's rep is likely what caused Pax to deal him.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on Nov 22, 2006 9:26 AM CST reply actions

trades
at this point, would anyone actually want to be traded to the bulls?  Expescially someone like Garnett or Gasol who might be on mediocre teams where they beleive they might not have a chance to win.  Not to mention the whole Skiles/Pax ambience.

by Sambossanova on Nov 22, 2006 10:39 AM CST reply actions

I'm buying into
the current Sam-Smithian thought about Garnett waiting it out for free-agency and going to the contender of his choice. Gasol is pretty much in limbo with an injury, Jerry West seeking retirement, and the Czar trying to shake the rust off his telestrator skills. There are more unhappy campers that would accept almost any change scenery like Maggette or Troy Murphy. Both would be easier to get and still be positive impacts on the Bulls in the event of a trade. There certainly aren't any decent rumors to discuss right now anyway.

by Paxson Jackson @ Blog a Bull on Nov 22, 2006 10:52 AM CST up reply actions

I think Gasol
would love to get on a team that could actually win a playoff game.

by bullshooter on Nov 22, 2006 12:57 PM CST up reply actions

Line up
I don't get it. We're winless with the starting line  up Scott has refined. Why not go back to the previous one, at least we won a couple with Ben starting.

by Option27 on Nov 22, 2006 7:53 PM CST reply actions

Agreed.
If for anything else, he's a much better rebounder than Duhon; he was actually rebounding better than everyone in the Pre-Season.

Plus, I'm pretty sure he's one of the few Bulls with balls enough to drive inside no matter who's in the paint.  He doesn't make every shot, but at least he's willing to throw himself around a bit.
