While the Bulls have continued to scrap and fight through the season many writers and analyst have speculated on what the Chicago Bulls should do this off-season. The two names that seem to be linked to the Bulls the most are Lance Stephenson and Carmelo Anthony. Both of these players are great and would do wonders for the Bulls. However, Stephenson would be a better fit on the court and financially.
While Carmelo Anthony is arguably the best pure scorer in the NBA he is not what the Chicago Bulls need. Lance Stephenson has shown last season and so far this season that he embodies what the Bulls do. He is tenacious, a great defender, a team player, and his offensive game is only growing. Additionally, because of those traits he would fit the Bulls system like a glove. Additionally, Stephenson is only 23 years old and is only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. He has so much ability and talent that he could become the superstar that D-Rose needs and that Chicago needs to capture a championship.
Additionally, Stephenson will not cost as much as Melo. Many analyst and writers have Stephenson landing a four year deal in the range of 40 to 48 million. Thats damn near a bargain considering that Melo would certainly demand a max contract. Furthermore, signing Stephenson would allow the Bulls to keep Taj and bring over Mirotic. However, to sign Melo we would have to give up Taj Dunleavy and delay bringing over Mirotic.
A starting five of Rose, Stephenson, Butler, Mirotic, Noah is much more balanced than Rose, Butler, Melo, Murphy (or a free agent signing) and Noah. Signing Stephenson not only gives us a great starting five but it also allows us to keep our bench and key role players. Stephenson gives the Bulls defense, shooting, and energy. This makes him a better free agent signing than Melo. What are you guys thoughts? Would you rather have Melo or Stephenson
