I would love seeing Carmelo Anthony playing for the Chicago Bulls next season. I'm more excited about that option than bringing Mirotic over considering we have seen what Carmelo can do and a lot about Mirotic is still a question. With that being said I don't want Anthony if it means losing Noah or Gibson. Rose, Anthony, Butler, Gibson and Noah would be a great starting 5. We wouldn't have much of a bench however, with over 60 million going to our starters.
I've worked some trades on ESPN's trade machine and found out if the Knicks were desperate enough and willing to take Boozer and either Hinrich or Dunleavy the deal would be successful. The Knicks most likely won't get rid of a superstar like Carmelo for an overpaid Boozer and an over the hill Hinrich, even if Hinrich is only going to be there for the rest of this season. So that leaves us waiting until the offseason.
Now if Carmelo stays in New York or goes elsewhere we aren't screwed. We could amnesty Boozer and use the money to bring Mirotic over and sign Augustin to a good deal and still have some left over for someone else. I don't think we will look as good with Mirotic instead of Anthony in our starting 5 but our bench could be bench mob 2.0 with Augustin, Dunleavy, and Snell, the pieces I see now, leading the mob with some money to sign another key piece to the bench.
If Carmelo and Mirotic don't come we still aren't completely done. Keeping Boozer isn't the worst thing in the world. The truth is we have no idea if his acquisition was a good signing or bad due to the fact that we have lost 3 chances at a title because of Rose's injuries. The first year we made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. The second year got the one seed and probably would have at least gotten back to the ECF. Noah and Gibson have become a lot more valuable than Boozer in these past few years. One more year with Boozer wouldn't kill us. Especially with Kevin Love probably going into free agency after next season. Or dare I dream Kevin Durant the year after.
