If You Want Em, Take Em
One of the things that Taj's recent run of excellent play has shown me is that Carlos Boozer is extra unnecessary on this team. This year and most definitely next. I ran across this Boozer trade rumor, and started thinking. Along with a couple of other rumors that have been floated across the internet, Kirk and Dunleavy could be on the move too. How could the team make a move with all three vets without tanking this year and building for the future?
I came up with 2 trades, that I think are pretty realistic, hopefully you guys share my thought process.
The first is a 3 team trade between CHI, PHX, and HOU:
Bulls get: Emeka Okafor and PHX 1st round pick from WAS, Patrick Beverly and Donatas Motiejunas from HOU
Suns get: Carlos Boozer from CHI and Omer Asik from HOU
Rockets get: Mike Dunleavy and CHI 2015 1st round pick from SAC, Channing Frye from PHX
The Bulls end up with $14.5 mil coming off the books this summer, a 2nd or 3rd PG just in case DJ can't be resigned this summer, and a young big man to add to the rotation. This will give them ample room to bring Mirotic over this summer. Plus, a 3rd 1st round pick in this year's draft.
But wait the fun is not over, then we pull off this trade off between CHI and GS:
Getting Barnes lets Butler slide back over to SG in the starting lineup for this year and the foreseeable future.
The Bulls are left with a lineup that looks like this for the rest of the season:
PG DJ / Beverly
SG Butler / Bazemore
SF Barnes / Snell
PF Taj / Motiejunas
C Noah / Nazr / Okafor (if he ever comes back)
And go into this summer's offseason looking like this:
PG DRose / Beverly -- if we can resign DJ you do that, but if not a draft pick will be used
SG Butler -- Use a draft pick or the cap space to sign a Stevenson
SF Barnes / Snell
PF Taj -- Bring over Mirotic
C Noah / Motiejunas -- Use a draft pick for a young C
